Mrs. Willson is an Omaha native, and she has been married for 33 years to her husband Jeff. They have two children, Mike, an automotive tech at H&H Chevrolet, and Julie Reineke, a sub for the district. Julie and her husband Jim are the parents of Mrs. Willson's grandchildren, Matthew age 6 and Sarah, age 2. She enjoys camping, traveling, walking, and playing with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Willson is a 1971 graduate of Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa, and she obtained a degree in business administration from Morningside College. After working in banking for several years, she "retired" to take care of Julie and Mike at home. After Mike entered school, Mrs. Willson started working part time as a sub para in the district, then moved up to clerical para at Neihardt. In 1994, she was placed in the Resource department as a para, and went back to school in 1996 to get her teaching degree. Mrs. Willson graduated from UNO in 1999, and worked as a sub until being hired in the summer of 2000 as a fifth grade teacher at Black Elk.
