Central Middle School (CMS) is a grades six through eight building with traditional middle school teams as well as a Montessori mini-magnet and an English Language Learner Program. The Millard Public Schools’ Middle School Alternative Program (MSAP) is located in a separate building on the Central Middle School campus, and some MSAP students take classes at CMS as well. Approximately 800 students attend CMS, and our students come from over 20 countries and speak over 15 languages.

The mission of Central Middle School is to guarantee that each student will continually improve life skills and achieve personal academic success in a diverse and innovative educational community. At CMS, we focus on teaching the whole child and an important part of that is facilitating the attainment of developmental assets in students.

Our staff members are trained in the unique needs of adolescent learners so that we can meet those needs during the crucial middle years. A continuous improvement model helps us to challenge our students academically within an environment that builds responsibility, self-esteem, self-advocacy, empowerment, and resilience. We strive to help students see the long term effects of their education and hard work by teaching them to set goals and take time to develop their interests and passions.

We have two site plan strategies that drive our continuous improvement:

The curricular offerings for traditional students at Central Middle School mirror that of the other five middle schools in Millard. The Montessori program has its own curriculum and delivery model that still meets the requirements for the Millard Public Schools Essential Learner Outcome assessments. The Middle School Alternative Program utilizes the traditional curriculum, but only some students take exploratory classes. Within all of these settings, our teachers work hard to provide appropriate challenge to students at all levels, from students with special learning needs to highly gifted. A variety of programs assist us in this effort, such as evening library activities, the After School Advantage (tutoring) program, homework clubs, high school tutors, peer tutors, night school, and mentoring programs.

Central Middle School parents are involved supporters of their children’s learning by doing things like helping with homework, attending student-parent-teacher conferences, and checking their child’s on-line gradebook. CMS parents also give of their time by volunteering at school.
