  Nuisance Items

Nuisance Items are items which may cause a student or students to be distracted  from their learning.  Personal belongings often become nuisance items and can be taken away at the teacher’s discretion.  Items that have become a nuisance in the past include (but are not limited to) the following:

· Dolls

· Stuffed toys (when not permitted)

· Pocket toys

· Money

· Collectible cards

· Electronic items (iPods, phones, etc)

 Food Services Web Site

Please see our new nutrition site on www.mpsomaha.org under the Food Service link.  Select the "Nutrition" link, and you can look up foods from the new site.

Choose the type of food (for example: fruit) from the list on the left side of the screen.  Type the specific item in the search box (fruit cup) and hit "Go."  Make the final selection with the matched item in the middle box and read the nutritional information on that item in the right hand box.

    Literacy Intervention

When students struggle with reading, it is imperative that we intervene as early as possible.  Our school is very fortunate to have a team that focuses on early literacy intervention. Cottonwood’s Intervention Team this year is led by Mrs. Catalano, who is beginning her third year with us at Cottonwood.  Mrs. Catalano has a master’s degree in Reading Instruction.  She will assist students with literacy needs in grades 2-5.        Mrs. Silva returns to begin her second year at Cottonwood and will be working with first graders who need reading assistance. New this year is Mrs. Flair, who comes to us with experience teaching preschool.  She will work with our kindergarten students. These individuals will work closely with the classroom teachers to promote literacy development.
