Death Mountain

The book Death Mountain by Sherry Shanan, is an adventure book

that takes place in a mountain range called the Sierra Nevada. In

this book, Erin is a thirteen year old girl, who has had a pretty

tough life for the last year. See, her mom ran away about eleven

months ago, leaving no trace of where she went. Erin and Her dad move

in with her grandmother, where there is no television, and only one

phone! Erin passes the time by reading, and writing her own songs.

One day, they get a call from Erin's mom, almost a year later,

asking Erin to come and visit her! Now, Erin doesn't want to go, but

her gram gets her to. When she gets to the bus station, she finds out

that her ticket has been stolen. She hitches a ride with a fourteen

year old girl named Mae, and her older brother, Levi. They ask Erin

if she wants to go swimming with them in a lake they know of in the

mountains. Erin figures that she has nowhere better to go, so she

agrees. But when they are in the middle of the wilderness, a deadly

electrical storm hits! Mae and Erin are split apart from Levi, and

are forced to find a way to survive on their own!

This is a young adult choice award book that is worth 6

reading points, and has a reading level of 4.3. out of five stars
