This book is about a girl named Ma Yan and she is from a poor family but wants to still go to school. For her to be able to go to school, she has to have her parents work in labor all day. Sometimes her parents have to go away so far that she only gets to see them every three weeks at a time. Ma Yan only gets a certain amount of money each week and if she spends it, she can not eat and has to go hungry until the weekend. Ma Yan's dreams are to have a family that is together all the time, to get into the girls school, and to get a good job that pays a lot so that her parents do not have to work as hard.
