Suggested biography/autobiography/research topic ideas

This list was updated in Oct. 2005, based on the content of the bookshelves at The Bookworm bookstore at 87 th and Pacific. Other books are also suitable as long as they are written for an adult audience, are over 200 pages long, and lend themselves to a research project NOT exclusively about the person, but about some topic relevant to the person. For example, many books have been written about Princess Diana, Jackie Kennedy Onasis, and Martin Luther King, Jr. These could lead to research on Diana’s eating disorders or her charity projects, the Kennedy White House restoration, and the Montgomery bus boycott or the marches on Selma or Washington, among other topics.

Books are listed here alphabetically by SUBJECT’s name, not by author, but the subject’s name is not always part of the book’s title. Many are autobiographies, making the author the subject as well.

Please give thoughtful consideration to your choice, as it will determine the topic of a research paper that will be a major 3 rd quarter course outcome . Choose a book with a connection to your likely future IB or AP course selections . Your research topic must be a narrow (small) topic with indepth (detailed) research, NOT a broad topic with general, encyclopedia-level (common knowledge) research. You must be able to use this book selection as one source of that detailed research . Many of these titles are NOT currently available through the Millard North media center. If at all possible, purchase the book; you will need it for about four months.
