Reporting of Student Absences/Attendance
Whenever a student is not in school or must leave school, a parent or guardian must call the Attendance Office at 715 – 1223 . Please call the morning of the absence between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., stating the reason for the absence. Millard North will call on all unverified absences after 10:00 a.m. each day. Because of the large number of absences on certain days, many times we cannot complete our calling on every absence. Therefore, to help do a better job communicating with parents on absences, we now use an electronic phone messenger system for those absences left unverified at the end of the day.
When a student is absent several days, we ask parents to call each day a student is to be absent unless other arrangements have been made with the Attendance Office. A phone call is adequate communication for the student’s return to school. If parent/guardians have called, the student does not need to report to the office.
Parents/guardians must call to excuse an absence within one (1) school day immediately following the absence. Should a call be received after this period of time, the absence will be considered an unexcused absence. No notes will be accepted by the office to excuse an absence or tardy.
If a student is ill and absent from school for five (5) consecutive days, a medical doctor’s verification may be required for admittance. Please read the attendance policies in the MNHS Student Handbook for more information.
