Who can check out?

How many books can they check out?

Preschool students begin by checking out one book at a time and gradually increase to two books before the end of the school year.

Kindergarten students begin by checking out one book at a time and gradually increase to three books before the end of the school year.

First through Fifth grade students may check out up to five items at a time.

What can students check out?

Preschool students may check out board books and later in the year they may check out picture books.

Kindergarten students begin by checking out picture books and expand into the non-fiction section later in the year.

First and Second grade students may check out up to five books at a time.

Third through Fifth graders may check out up to five items at a time. They may check out additional materials if needed for school projects.They may check out one encyclopedia volume at a time for over night use only.

When can students use the Information Center?

The Montclair Information Center runs on an open check out system. This means that students may come in anytime during school hours to use the facility.

Some classroom teachers have a scheduled day that they bring the entire class in for check out, however students are not limited to that time.

How long can materials be kept?

Books are checked out for a two week period.

Magazines are checked out for three days.

Encyclopedia volumes are checked out for overnight use only.

What happens if a student has an overdue book?

If a student has an overdue book, they are not allowed to check out any more until the overdue item is either renewed or returned. This includes overdue magazines and encyclopedia volumes. Montclair does not charge overdue fines.

What happens if a book is damaged?

If a book or magazine becomes torn, please show it to one of the staff members in the Information Center. Most of these can be easily repaired by our experienced staff. Please do not attempt repairs yourself.

If a book or magazine is damaged past the point of repair, it is the student's responsibility to pay for its replacement before check out privileges can be reinstated.
