Welcome to the Millard School District! The 2008-09 school year marks my 13th year as superintendent. I am proud to serve our vibrant community including 22,000 students and 2,700 staff members.
We ensure that each child is challenged to reach his or her full potential. In fact, we guarantee success! We strive to be a world-class school system.
I think you'll agree from our many accomplishments that the Millard School District is second to none!
· ACT scores remain high. Over 81 percent of Millard seniors took the ACT in 2008 and achieved a composite score of 23.3.
· On the Terra Nova Achievement Test, students scored between the 70th and 80th national percentiles on almost all subjects (reading, math, language, science and social studies). This means that students in the Millard School District generally score as well or better than three-fourths of their peers nationwide.
· More students are taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Enrollment increased from 2,060 students in 2005 to 2,775 in 2007. The number of test-takers jumped even more significantly – from 594 to 1,573.
· Millard students also ‘aced’ the state writing tests. The overall average of 96.1% was one of the highest among all districts in the state.
· The American Music Conference has named the Millard School District as one of the Best 100 Communities for Music Education in America. Millard is cited for providing outstanding music programs that enrich the lives of children.
· Parent support is essential. Over 91 percent gave their children’s school an A or B (62 percent gave an A). We do a great job of working with parents as vital partners in the educational process.
· We have the best educated staff in Nebraska. Millard employs more teachers with masters or higher degrees than any other district.
· We take great pride in community service. United Way recognized us as a “Community Hero.” The designation recognizes companies raising over $47,000. Millard students and staff raised $71,687. The American Red Cross commended our high schools for holding blood drives that have provided enough blood to save the lives of 20,868 people over the last nine years.
· Kiplinger’s Magazine cited the “top-rated, nationally recognized” Millard School District as one of the reasons Omaha rates #3 in the list of the Top 10 Best Cities for 2008.
We believe we are a world-class school system, because we have world-class students, teachers, staff, parents and community!
