
More and more scholarship information is becoming available online. Many of the sites listed below also have the actual applications online. Check this list often as it is updated every few days during the scholarship season (generally October through March). Some of these are long shots but many are worth checking out. Following the quicklinks scholarship section is a list of nearby college and university financial aid sites. Some of them also have online scholarship applications for incoming freshmen.
AAL Scholarships - Over 3000 scholarships awarded - different categories: all colleges, vocational colleges, and those that are Lutheran affiliated.
US Air Force ROTC Scholarships - If you are considering the military, have excellent grades and are involved in school activities, check it out.

America ’s Milk Processors and USA TODAY - are offering the 10th annual “Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year” (SAMMY 2008) Award Program. The purpose of this program is to recognize scholar athletes. Deadline: March 7, 2008.
Army ROTC - offers 4 year scholarships to all Omaha-metro area colleges that pay full tuition, room/board, spending money totaling $4,500/yr and a $1,200/yr for books. Graduates are guaranteed a full time job starting at $43,000/yr. After 4 years, the salary increases to $75,000/yr. Additionally, fully funded graduate opportunities are available after graduation.
Bahner College of Hairstyling - Located in Fremont, NE, Bahner is offering scholarships worth $600 to $1,500!! Almost 90% of their students receive some form of scholarship.
Best Buy Scholarship - This scholarship is awarded to graduating high school seniors dedicated to helping their communities. Deadline: February 15, 2008.
Burger King Scholars Foundation is offering 700 scholarships worth $1,000 each. To be eligible you must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, work an average of 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year (part-time year round),be involved in community or co-curricular activities, have financial need and plan to enroll in a two/or four year school. You do not have to work at Burger King, but BK employees are eligible. Application process begins October 15, 2007.
Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation - is offering 250 merit-based scholarships. Fifty (50) awards are for $20,000 (payable over four years) and 200 awards are for $4,000 (payable over four years). What kind of students become Coca-Cola scholars? Well-rounded individuals with highly developed interests in their community. You have to apply on-line.

Elks National Foundation - Most Valuable Student scholarship
FastWeb.com - Another free scholarship search program. You login, fill out a profile and receive a mailbox which you can periodically check for scholarship application sources.
Gates Millennium Scholarship - This scholarship offers a full-ride to student who are African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American or Hispanic American with 3.3 GPA or higher and mets the Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria.
The Great Plains Association of College Admissions Counseling (GPACAC) - is offering six$1,000 scholarships. You must complete the application online and attach a personal essay. Essays will be reviewed for content, grammar and creativity. The primary basis for selection will be on the essay, however, students must have their highest ACT score ranging between 21 and 28, SAT score between 1450-1900 and a 3.0+ GPA . Your counselor will need to complete the academic section of the form and mail it with an official transcript. Deadline: February 29, 2008.
Hastings College announces the 2007-2008 Walter Scott Scholarship Competition. They award three full-tuition scholarships. All eligible competitors will receive either the Walter School Scholarship Or one of the following: Trustee’s - $14,000 per year, President’s - $13,000 per year, Dean - $12,000 per year, Ambassador - $10,000 per year, Ringland - $8,000 per year, Pro Rege - $7,000 per year. To be eligible you must apply and be admitted to Hastings College by December 10, 2007, rank in the top 20% of the senior class and score a 26+ on the ACT or 1170 on the SAT. Deadline is December 10th for early award January 11th for standard award.

Horace Mann Scholarship Program - This scholarship is offered for educator's children with at least a 3.0 GPA and a 23+ ACT or 1000+ SAT.
Iowa State University - has Special Awards for Nebraska Residents. They are offering automatic scholarship awards to residents of Nebraska who rank in the top 25% of their graduating class, are completing a challenging college prep curriculum or a child or grandchild of an Iowa State alumni. There are numerous scholarship opportunities and many of them only need you to submit your application for admission to Iowa State. Don’t’ miss out - up to $28,000 in awards.
University of Iowa - is offering the Presidential Scholarship Program. This year 20 students will be awarded Presidential Scholarships and 350 will be selected to receive Old Gold Scholarship. The Presidential awards $40,000 and the Old Gold awards $12,000. To be eligible for the program, students must have an ACT score of 30 or above or SAT of 1320 or above and an Admission Index Score (2 x ACT composite + High School percentile rank) of 150 or above. The university also has several merit scholarships in other areas such as engineering. Deadline: December 14, 2007.
J.D. Edwards Program in Computer Science and Management - UNL offers this program for high-ability students. To be eligble you must have a 31+ ACT or 1380+ SAT, 3.8 GPA, in top 10% of your class and an interest in technology and business.
Junior Miss Scholarship Program - You have to start this scholarship process early in your junior year.
University of Kansas School of Engineering - This scholarship may give you $1,000-$6,000 if you have a math ACT score of 28+ and an english ACT score of 26+. This site will allow you to apply for admissions and scholarships. Deadline: December 1, 2007.
Kansas State University - November 1, 2007 is the priority deadline for the general university scholarships. College and departmental scholarship priority deadline is February 1, 2008. To apply you need to complete the scholarship application page along with the admission application form.
Kearney - Want to be a Loper? UNK offers great scholarships for those with ACTs of 26+ and top 25% of your class.
KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program is a scholarship dedicated to assisting students with financial need. Awards are up to $20,000. To be eligible you must be a graduating senior, have a 2.75 GPA or higher, planning to attend a public in-state college or university, and a U.S. citizen. Deadline: February 15, 2008.
Kohl’s - is now accepting nominations for the Kohl’s Kids Who Care program. This program recognizes young people, ages six through 18, for their volunteer activities. Nominees could ultimately receive one of the ten $5,000 scholarships. Deadline: March 15, 2008.

Midland Lutheran College is offering the Anderson Leadership Scholarship for incoming freshmen students. To be considered for this award you must be in the top 20% of your class, have a 3.5+ GPA, have a 25+ ACT and write a compelling essay. You must first apply for admission and be accepted. Deadline: December 21, 2007.
Millard Public Schools Foundation Scholarships - Once you logon, click on "Programs", Click on "Apply for a Scholarship" and then follow all of the directions.
The Minnesota Transplants Scholarship Committee - is now accepting applications for the 3rd annual MTP Scholarship. This is a $500 award for a Nebraska/Western Iowa student who plans to attend college in Minnesota. Deadline: February 9, 2008.
Nebraska Insurance Federation and Nebraska Actuaries Club - is offering two $4,000 scholarships for students attending one of the three University of Nebraska campuses and one $1,000 scholarship for students attending a school in Nebraska. Deadline: March 31, 2008.
UNL Honors Program - To be eligible you must have a 29 or higher on the ACT or 1300 on the SAT and in the top 10% of your class.

Nelnet - No academic information is required to enter or win. No essay. No ACT/SAT score. No minimum GPA. There will be ten grand prize winners awarded up to $25,000 and 750 first prize winners awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Two winners from every state guaranteed.Outstanding Students of America - is offering a $1,000 scholarship award. To be eligible you must have a 3.0 GPA or higher and have been involved in school and/or community activities. Deadline: October 10, 2007.
Oxbow’s High School Senior – Animal Interest Scholarship - For those interested in working in the field of animal health, nutrition, or the pet industry? You must be a graduating senior and attending a college or university in the fall. Deadline: March 10, 2008.
Peter Kiewit Institute Scholarships - for those applying to the Peter Kiewit Institute at UNO...you will find a number of scholarships here and an online application for the Walter Scott Jr Scholarship and General PKI scholarships.

Society of Automotive Engineers - They are proud to offer a number of scholarships to qualified students. There are both undesignated and university sponsored scholarships available. They are valued up to $35,000. Deadline: December 1, 2007.

Scholarships.com - This is a free scholarship search and financial aid resource. This is a very comprehensive site that has membership in the National Association of Financial Aid Administrators, which is a professional organization that sets the standards for Financial Aid professionals.
Scholarship News - This site breaks scholarships down into categories and then gives you links to dozens of scholarship opportunities within each category. Categories include: by major, by state, minority scholarships, athletic scholarships, etc.
Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity - at the University of Nebraska at Omaha is offering two “Balanced Man Scholarships”. One is worth $1,000 and one is worth $500. You do not have to join the fraternity to be eligible.
Society of Automotive Engineers - offer a number of scholarships to qualified students. There are both undesignated and university sponsored scholarships available valued up to $34,000.
Society of Women Engineers Scholarship Program - Many scholarships available here for women engineering majors.
Southeast Community College - 2007-2008 Educational Foundation Scholarship Applications are now available. To be eligible for this award you must be in the top 50% of your class and planning to enroll at SCC between July 1, 2008 and June 30, 2009. This is good for all three campuses. You must apply online; paper copies will no longer be accepted. Deadline: February 1, 2008.
Union Bank & Trust Company - They are awarding $500 each week for 24 weeks starting November 23rd. To be eligible you must have an ACT of 20+, upper third of your class and attending a Nebraska post-secondary school.
Wal*Mart Store and SAM’S CLUB - are awarding scholarships to graduating seniors. All of the scholarships are listed on this site. Click on “Scholarships”. Read all the opportunities and guidelines. Deadline: January 12, 2008.
Walter Scott Jr. Scholarship - for prospective students to the Institute of Information Science and Technology and Engineering
Wells Fargo- CollegeSTEPS Scholarship Program awards 20 scholarships valued at $1000.
Wendy’s Restaurants - teamed up with the Heisman Memorial Trophy Committee to create the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award. The award honors both male and female high school students who excel in academics, athletics and student leadership. To be eligible you must be a senior with a 3.0 + GPA and must have participated in at least one of the 33 sports officially sanctioned by the National Federation of State High Schools.
University of Wyoming . They offer a special scholarship for Nebraska residents called the Peak Achievement Scholarship. This award is valued between $4,000 and $7,000. To be eligible you must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a 20+ ACT.
College Answer - This is a reputable scholarship search program, some say the best online. It takes 15 - 20 minutes to fill out the profile, but for a national scholarship search it does the job. (You must have an email address)
