PLANNING TO ATTEND UNO? After you have applied and been accepted, you will receive an orientation letter from UNO that explains the Placement Tests. Read the information carefully so that you know the Placement Test requirements. You will need to pick a test date and complete the registration process. Keep in mind UNO has Placement Tests in English, French, Spanish, and Chemistry. Students cannot register for classes in any of these subject areas without taking the appropriate Placement Test. Details are on the testing website at: http://www.ses.unomaha.edu/testing/index.php. NOTE – Placement in math classes at UNO is now based on your ACT math score. UNO believes the ACT math sub-score is a better predictor of where you are in math. Therefore, the following range of scores is being used to place incoming students in a math class at UNO:
- ACT=0-18 No placement, non-credit Beginning Algebra is required (class offered at Metro)
- ACT=19-22 Math 1310 (Intermediate Algebra)
- ACT=23-24 Math 1320 (College Algebra), 1330 (Trig), or 1340 (Algebra & Trig for Calculus)
- ACT=25 Math 1930 (Calculus for the Managerial, Life & Social Sciences) or only Math 1330 (Trig) for enrollment in Math 1950 (Calculus I)
- ACT=26+ Math 1950 (Calculus I)
Any student may challenge their ACT placement by taking the Math Placement Exam or the Calculus Readiness Exam.
ON-LINE APPLICATIONS
Many of you have been applying for college admissions and scholarships on-line. If you do apply on-line remember you must inform your counselor where you applied so that your transcripts & test scores can be sent to the schools you applied to. Without transcripts and test scores, your application file will be incomplete. Also, you need to pay particular attention to instructions regarding scholarships and admissions with on-line applications. There are a number of confusing things going on as colleges try to switch from paper applications to on-line. When in doubt, ask your counselor for assistance.

ACT SCORES/COLLEGE & SCHOLARSHIP DEADLINES
Typically, the December ACT test is the last ACT date that colleges will accept for admission and scholarship purposes. While that is not true at all schools, it is something that seniors at MSHS need to be aware of. If you now think you want to take the December 8 th ACT, but did not register, you may still register to take the test in “standby” status. To take the ACT as a standby you need to know:
- Testing as a standby costs more.
- You are not guaranteed a seat or test booklet.
- Test centers admit standbys on a first-come, first-admitted basis and only if there are enough seats, materials, and staff after all registered students have been admitted.
- You can talk to Mrs. Harrach in the Counseling Center to see if it is possible to do standby at Millard South.
- Arrive at the test center before 8:00 AM even though you will NOT be admitted until all registered students have been admitted.
- Bring your completed registration folder, sealed in the registration return envelope with your name and address clearly printed in the return address box & your fee payment enclosed. Do not bring cash. If you do not turn in a sealed registration envelope at the test center, you will not receive test scores. (Even if you are inadvertently admitted and allowed to test, no scores will be reported if you do not turn in your registration at the test center before testing.)
- Your fee payment must include at least the basic fee plus the $39.50 standby fee (Total: ACT [No Writing] = $69.50, ACT Plus Writing = $84.00).
- Your fee payment must include at least the basic fee plus the $39.50 standby fee (Total: ACT [No Writing] = $69.50, ACT Plus Writing = $84.00).
Have You Ever Considered A Course in Agriculture?
Probably most suburban Millard students have not given agriculture careers much consideration. The University of Nebraska College of Agriculture Sciences and Natural Resources has 27 programs related to agriculture plus two pre-professional programs. While some majors may not interest Millard South students, there are several that should catch your attention like:
Golf Management
Fish & Wildlife
Veterinary Science
Veterinary Technology
Pre-Veterinary Medicine
Pre-Forestry
Environmental Studies
Horticulture
