Choral Music

Several groups are available for those students wishing to participate in choral music. The Freshmen Choir is open to all freshmen with recommendation by their eighth grade music teacher and by audition. This choir studies and performs music of various styles. The ensemble meets during the school day for academic credit and typically offers two concerts per semester. The Junior Varsity Choir is open to sophomores by audition. This choir studies and performs music of various styles. The ensemble meets during the school day for academic credit and typically offers two concerts per semester. The Varsity Choir is open to juniors and seniors by audition. This premiere choir studies and performs music of various styles at concerts, contests, and other events. The ensemble meets during the school day for academic credit. Mixed Choir is open to all students in grades 9-12. Audition is not required. This choir studies and performs music of various styles. The ensemble meets during the school day for academic credit and typically offers two concerts per semester. South On Stage is open to any student in grades 9-12 who is enrolled in a choir. Auditions are held in late spring for the following school year. Madrigal Choir is a small ensemble open to all students in grades 9-12 by audition. The choir studies and performs madrigals, popular music of the Renaissance Era, at concerts and contests. The group rehearses second semester two to three hours a week. Auditions are held in the late fall. Carol Choir is open to students in grades 9-12 who are members of South on Stage, Madrigal Choir, or by permission. This ensemble rehearses two hours each week beginning in November and performs extensively in December for civic events and holiday concerts.
