MILLARD WEST HIGH SCHOOL
SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER (SRO)
The Millard West Public School District entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) in 1999 to provide a full-time DCSO Deputy Sheriff at Millard West High School (MWHS) to serve as the School Resource Officer (SRO).
The primary goals of the MWHS SRO include crime prevention, ensuring the safety of MWHS students/staff members, investigating/intervening in criminal matters, as needed and building positive relationships between law enforcement and students.
These goals are accomplished by providing a visible law enforcement presence (SRO) on the MWHS campus to interact daily with students and staff. The SRO is an ideal mechanism for providing advice and services to students/staff regarding criminal matters and issues relevant and unique to a high school setting.
The daily interaction between the SRO and MWHS students helps to “bridge the gap” between police officers and youth. This interaction increases positive attitudes toward law enforcement and encourages cooperation between the students and the police. The SRO helps to reduce juvenile crime through individual counseling, classroom instruction, and by building positive relationships via professional student/SRO interaction.
The current MWHS SRO is Deputy Mike Shepard. You can reach him at the following:
