College Board |
From the makers of the SAT this has test prep material as well as one of the first college search engines. Search engines enable you to type in what it is you are looking for in a college and it will sort (fairly accurately-not 100%) which colleges fit that criteria. Always important to use this list as a starting point in yout search and NOT as a tool to take schools off your list - in other words thinking they don't make "the cut" since they are not on the particular list. It is also important to use more than one search engine. Make sure to try their advanced search. Also has some excellent articles and advice.

Like the college board website, this is an all around good web-site with articles about financial aid information. Check out their Counselor-o-Matic search engine!

U.S. News & World Report
Known more in our culture for ranking colleges, but perhaps this site is most useful again for its college search engine but also for their short and informative articles on a wide variety of subjects.
Much like the Princeton Review, but it doesnt hurt to compare. |
College Data
Very interesting searches, articles, and tools (for instance one that helps predict one's chances of admission to certain schools). It does require you to register on the site before you can use them though.
This is a new site added this year, and though the search engine is poorer than others listed here, once you have the list of schools there may be no other one source in which to gather so much information on a particular school and compare them. As you'll see you can gather information as detailed as stats on different kinds of crime repored on campus. Topics of study and the like are found as well, A drawback is the site is not the easiest to navigate.
We are lucky enough to be one of the only states that has this nonprofit organization to help families examine the costs of college. There is no site better to get a handle on scholarships offered for just Nebraska students, especially if you plan to stay in Nebraska but check the site out even if its out of state you want to go. |
All About College
This is a very functional site in it's lists of, and links to, information. for instance it has directories of law schools, med schools, as well as undergraduate institutions. Also helpful information on financial aide and the like.
FastWeb
If you are really wanting to extend your search nationally for those "outside" scholarships, FastWeb allows you to type in your profile and then matches scholarships with it. Note: Some can take quite some time and not bear a lot of fruit, so have patience; it's always good to start with sources close to home and then work your search out nationally.
College Parents of America
Ok parents, a site just for you, although students could actually benefit as well. This site has good information and could help reduce the stress some parents feel during this time in their children's lives. |
