| The Neihardt
Information Center Birthday Book Club offers students an opportunity
to share their birthdays with all Neihardt students and staff. |
| When and how can students join? |
A day or two before their birthday,
students may bring $5.00 (cash or check to Neihardt) to the
Information Center. At that time they may pick out one of
the new books displayed in our Birthday Book Club area.
|
| What happens next? |
The Information Center staff will place a bookplate in the front of the book
with the student's name, birthday, and teacher name. The student's
name will be hung on
our Birthday Book Club Tree in the Information Center. The
student will be the first one to check out the book. When
it is returned, it will become part of our collection for
all students to enjoy.
|
| What if a student wants to donate a book purchased
from a local bookstore? |
Unfortunately, this is not an option. With our centralized, computerized
catalog and circultion system, donated books take several
weeks to be processed into the system. This defeats the purpose
of recognizing the student on his/her birthday. Also, there
are curriculum standards as well as binding quality to be
considered when selecting books for a public school Information
Center.
|
| $5.00 does not cover the cost of a library-bound
book -- does it? |
No. The $5.00 amount is really a small portion
of the actual cost of a library-bound book these days. We
set the price so that all students would feel comfortable
donating a book in their own name. (You would be very surprised
at how many of our Birthday Book Club donations are paid out
of saved-up allowances!!!)
