Reading: The theme of unit 5 is Gather Around: The World Around Us. Our stories take place around the world.

Writing: We will be continuing our writing groups; in groups we will practice informational writing and poetry, and we will be learning about word choice and effective sentences. We will continue to work on editing practice in isolation and in the context of our own writing.

Spelling/Phonics/Handwriting: Remember to study those spelling lists. Tests are on Friday.

Math: Some topics we will cover in units 10, 11 and 12 are measurement and probability, addition and subtraction facts to 18, and two digit addition and subtraction. We will review all first grade math skills to prepare for the 2nd grade math assessment in the fall.

Unit Studies: We will be learning about how plants and animals live, life cycles, food chains, and animal habitats. We will also be anxiously awaiting the return of our Flat Stanleys.
