The HAL language arts program is designed to serve as a bridge
for learning as students prepare for the Open Court Classics program. The program is designed with the emphasis on higher-level thinking and
concept development.
The HAL program for Math is being used with all grades K-5. The
program makes use of written materials as well as interactive
computer software and multi-media systems. The district High Ability
Learner Math Program for identified elementary students is structured
by quarters around various mathematical concepts that will enrich and
accelerate their current mathematical knowledge. The program is
designed to be presented by the classroom teacher in the
classroom.
Building level programming reflects the needs and resources
of Wheeler. This programming represents unique ways students can be
challenged to "stretch" a little further. Examples are Spanish Club,
Book Club, Technology Club, Art Club, Gardening
Club, Chess Club, and Mastery Club. We are in the process of developing a Destination Imagination team.
Special projects are always underway. Projects range from art,
special interests, curriculum-based projects, projects for special
needs, and any other creative idea that supports our mission and/or
our Essential Learner Outcomes.
It is always fun to be involved with teachers and children in the
learning process.
