As I walked in I followed the directions 1.check in 2.Complete the TFK sheet with is a sheet on a magazine about facts that had happened in the last few weeks. Clean off your desk and 6th grade math please stay we are going to be having our social studies test first because this is the only time that everyone will be in the room. When you are done do any homework like your morning TFK sheet or your ABC booklet that is due at the end of the day. When I got done I said that the test was easier than making a lay up in basketball. He shoots he scores you made it right it was gym we had a very interesting sub she had on 1 hand but she could do a lot of things and tell a lot of interesting stories. In gym she let us pick the game. Guess what we picked? We picked a game called backboard. There are two teams there are a bunch of balls and you try to hit the other team and then they are out if you hit the backboard then everyone comes back in.
We went in to S.Q.U.I.R.T, which is our silent reading time as I was a magnet with my book because I am reading Jack on Track. It is an exciting book.
Next came math we had to check our math pages from yesterdays assignment what we did today was math pages 301, 302, 303, 305 was the math box. We had to get all the pages checked by Ms. Everts and the math box we turn in on the round table were we turn in most of our math assignments. As our stomachs are still growling but not time for lunch just quiet yet, we are going to work on our revolutionary war ABC booklet and watch the top 25 songs on the movie of schoolhouse rock that movie is a rock.
As I was talking to my stomach it was saying “I am hungry,” hurry up and get something in me. So I did. It was lunch and recess. Then we had to go out and let our freezing energy out like it was outside. Burr it was colder than and ice cube. I saw a bunch of freezing little ice cubes walking into the school and they were melting our school is warm in side.
Next we have Mrs. Anderson coming but before she comes we will check if we have any questions on our social studies test if you do ask Ms. Everts and she will answer them.
Today with Mrs. Anderson we will be talking about two types of genres so I only brought a few of each type. Today our first Genre is Realistic fiction and next was poetry. Then it was our word master game and the time to beat is 1:33 and guess what we were a couple seconds short like 5 we got 1:37 but I bet next time we will beat it and guess what my production was right buzz, buzz, buzz high score we got 1:27. That was our new high score. Something was next that we don't have everyday it was the second grade musical about colors, colors, and more colors. It was more interesting than dissecting a cow eyeball. That is pretty interesting. After we got back we went into reading groups if you are in my group you have to do pages 26-28 ad questions. And that ended our day. Get your mail and buzzzzz the end of the day wondering what would happen in the short day that we have on Wednesday tomorrow.
Why are Mondays always so depressing? Maybe it's because you just have a great weekend and then "Poof" it's gone. Well, today is different because today will be fun. Want to hear what was on the menu for Monday the 25th? Then listen up!
As the appetizer, or in this case, the beginning of the day the chalkboard read, "Read your TKF quietly." And we were just like quiet mice. As quickly as that came, it was time for M+AxT-H. Math.
Math is always busy time of the day but it will be okay. First Miss Everts said, "Get out your SRB and Math Journal." What we didn't know was that we were going into a new unit. The new unit and what Miss Everts says is a fun one is now plotting number pairs. The first part of our busy math day was to turn to page 192 which contained the knowledge of how to plot number pairs. Next was another page-turner. We went and quickly turned to page 297 to find out there was a turtle on our math journals! Just kidding, but there really was a turtle. We had to try to plot the shape of a turtle. You could probably hear people complaining of difficulty for miles but it wasn't that hard as it looked. Once again we went back to our SRB's but to not read, to play a game. It wasn't Battleship but it was similar to that. It was called Hidden Treasure. It though, is played like Battleship. Being almost done, we had page 299 to do. That page was just matching the number graphs to the correct number story. There were three of them. Finally, we had just one more page to take a quick look at. It was just a box, I mean Math Box. It had questions like division, diameters, and lastly things like fill in the number model for the shaded part. "Whew!" What a day already and we're just getting started.
Before I knew it, it was 10:15. Time to go on a very still portrait of a field trip. We were going to be on a hot bus for a whole 10 minutes but it was worth it for our safety. WE, the fifth-graders, went over the rules and reviewed it. Not the driver because he said we should know. After that, which was soon, we jumped off a bus and were smoothly walking into Music Class.
As everyone sat down by their friends, which we could since we were going to watch a movie, we noticed a rainbow of colors but not a literal rainbow. The 2nd grade play was tomorrow and their theme was colors! As the bright and almost blinding walls were behind us Ms. Noble and our class talked about what we wanted for our party for getting our 800 points before a certain date. We picked a recess instead of music class with balloon and water gun fights or just normal fun recess. Soon after, we watched a short video of a band called Stomp. They make their songs out of things found at home and much more! No normal instruments used!
Once our La-La-La singing was over we had our Spelling P-R-E Tests. They were pretty difficult words too. The rule was of 3 syll-a-bles. Just like syllables. Once our 15-word pre test was over we wrote down our words for our weekly real spelling test. At that time, we also went golfing but stayed in school. Impressive huh? Well, we just golfed on our mini-putt golf. I golfed and got it in! Yay!
Next on our agenda and schedule we usually would have SQUIRT. Instead, we had our WordMaster study time. That was when spelling was over so when it was we played the WordMaster game. The time to beat was 1 minute and 54 seconds. After a study of 1/25 of the WordMaster words we got an even better time. Drum roll please because we got 1 minute and 33 seconds.
Soon after, we had to take the Real test of WordMasters. Not the Analogy one, but a vocabulary one. It was pretty easy if you studied. If not, you were probably going to say it was hard and difficult.
After a rough day we got to relax and dig up a hole in our books where we read through. SQUIRT lasted about 25 minutes, which felt about as if it lasted forever.
Our dreams and books broke apart by Miss Everts’ small voice saying, "Find a good spot to stop." But then Miss Everts said that a once in a lifetime chance was about to happen.
The clock read about 12:10 and reading was about to begin. Today all the separate and individual reading groups met except for The Westing Game. First group up to meet was Taylor's group, then Corinne's, and lastly mine. The 3 of these groups are reading The War with Grandpa. During this time, we got a whole 40 minutes of this wonderful reading time.
We quickly got that done and when we did it was yummy, delicious, and scrumious lunch time. Yum, yum was it good. However, recess was kind of chilly, which it ruined the moment.
Ever wanted to run away from mean relatives and dress up like a boy? Well, our new teacher read book is all about that. It is called Gentlemen Outlaw and Me-Eli. We read a good 3 chapters, which caught us up on our ABC Books, or any other homework we had. Wow! That was helpful!
I bet Nishant now felt lucky. Next Miss Everts announced that the winners of the Sketchy Contest from our school. Nishant got second place from our class. First place gets a whole new palm! Second place gets a camera and third place gets an AM/FM radio Pen! Cool!
Mrs. Neilson was a guest in our room from here on down to the end of the school day. She is Tyler's mom's student teacher. What a chain connection!
Correct or Incorrect? Miss Everts then beamed to our Palms two whole Quizzlers, which will help us study for tomorrow’s test. One quizzler was on events in the Revolution and the other was on the people in the war.
Soon it was 3:02 and we earlier than usual did our assignment notebook. We didn't have much homework except for 2 big projects due quite soon. So as the day was coming to an end, you can seen what was on the "menu." So as I told you before, it wasn't THAT depressing? I'm just glad it was fun on my way there.
Ahh, it's Friday. I love Fridays because it will be the weekend soon. Well anyways, as I walked into the classroom I saw that we had a spelling sheet on our desk, but before I could get to that I had to check in. Otherwise I would have had to pay a couch pass, which I don't have any because I use them a lot.
After I got the spelling sheet done as fast as a jackrabbit, we went into math. In math we had our math test. After Miss Everts went over the directions with us we got started. I didn't think it was as hard as our other math tests. When we were done with our test we had a math box to do.
Strike one, strike two, strike three, you're out. Yup, you guessed it, after math we went to gym. Before we got to play baseball we had to run 12 whole laps around the back parking lot!
As our sweating bodies walked out of the gym everybody was exhausted. When we got back into the room we took our spelling test. I hope I did well. Miss Everts said that when we were done with our spelling test to go into S.Q.U.I.R.T. That's our silent reading time. While we were reading we got to munch on our tasty, delicious snack. I'm reading a series called "Island" and the book was called "The Escape." It's pretty good so far. After S.Q.U.I.R.T we listened to Charles, Megan, Michael, and Alex share their fantastic blogs.
Amazingly that took us all the way up to lunch, my favorite part of the day. But when we had to go outside for recess it was cold. When everyone got in from the cold recess we voted on which book we were going to read next for teacher read. After the voting was over, "Eli and Me" won. Unfortunately we didn't get to start reading it because we had to go into reading. In reading we were in reading groups. Most of the groups were reading "The War with Grandpa" and the others were reading "The Westing Game." My group had a really short assignment so I got done quick which meant I had time to work on my homework. I decided to work on my "ABC book." That is a book that we are working on about the American Revolutionary War. By the time reading was over I got finished with my "ABC book" which really made me happy because it is a lot of work. Next, some of us played "News Bowl" while others worked on their "ABC book." One of the questions for sports was: The Atlanta Hawks are only the second team in NBA history in the shot clock era to not accomplish what? The answer was to not have a winning percentage over 500%. An interesting fact about the Atlanta Hawks is that they never won two games in a row at all this season. When "News Bowl" was over it was about 3:10 and that meant we had to fill out our assignment notebooks. After we finished that Miss Everts told us to pick up 10 scraps off the floor and then show her and when you come up to show her you had to bring your assignment notebook so she could sign it. After that we had to go get our backpacks and pack up. Before we could lineup we had to sit at our desk and wait to get our mid-quarters, which are our grades so far this quarter and we had to get our math test from earlier today. After we got all that stuff we could lineup and when Miss Everts gave us a hug or high five we could leave and enjoy our weekend.
As I come into the classroom late I found out that it was a normal day. We had a morning sheet about our first American flags. Some flags had snakes on it. We also had to color some flags.
Well enough about the morning sheet, and on to math. In the beginning of math we played the one of the most exiting games. The math review game!! One of the problems is what is two ninths plus five twelfths. If you got twenty three thirty sixths then you are right. Anyways, there were seventeen questions and a minute per problem. It seemed like we were bombarded by fractions and questions because we got another assignment, which was a mathbox. An example of a question on that was is fifty percent greater or less than two thirds. I got less than.
Well that is enough torture of adding and subtracting fractions. So we are going to go on to music. In music we went to the lab and worked on Garageband. We all had to get it exported to iTunes. We got pretty lucky too because we got cookies for a composers birthday. We also got some of those little umbrellas. And that was about it for music.
Next to editing!! We did editing on a story called The Fun They Had. But editing was really short. Only five minutes of circling and writing.
Once we found out SQUIRT was next, we all had our faces ready to read. But first we got to draw pillows. I got one of them. Then our faces dug into the books. We were having an exciting time.
We all vanished into Social Studies. We were checking our review sheets when as fast as a blink we were watching a movie.
After the movie we were talking in the lunchroom. We were eating lunch until one ten. Then at one ten we were outside having recess. Everybody had a great time.
But before we could finish our fun we had to go inside. When Miss Everts told us that we were going back outside, we were surprised. But when we found out why we’re inching our way to the door. The whistle blows and the war begins. The tug-a-war began after we had set the rules down. There were three teams, the white, blue, and red. The white team was the French. The red team was British. And last the blue team was the Americans. The Americans and the French won.
Finally, that Social Studies was over we were in teacher read. While we were in teacher read we were working on our assignments. We also finished the Sixth Grade Nickname Game.
Right before we went into reading we did our assignment notebooks. Then in reading we only had three groups meet because we didn't have enough time. The only group that didn't meet was the Westing Games. Then we were finally consuming up fifteen pieces of scrap paper on the floor. As we were lining up we were kind of happy because we got out a little early.
"Another two sided sheet" I said as I walked in the door. When I got to the bottom of the sheet I noticed there was a challenge question. It said, "What kind of supplies do you think George Washington and his crew might have needed? I asked the teacher if we had to do that question. I groaned, well you can guess the answer. It was no! Just kidding.
Next up on our agenda was reading. But first we had to do our morning sheet. Then we had to do the reading. The books we were reading were the Westing Game and The War with Grandpa. Then we did the questions about the chapters we read.
Next was gym we played kickball. It was kind of had to get a good hit because the field had a lot of players.
After gym we went back to the class the JA (junior achievement) was there we learned about how to own a business and things like that.
After the JA, it was time for math the teacher passed out blue sheets. Too bad I had to go somewhere else.
If lunch isn't the best time of the day I don’t know what is. The class quickly went into study hall. At the end of the day we walked out the door with proud faces because we got a certificate for JA.
Today was a great day! As we came in from the magnificent weather outside we saw that on the board it said complete the sheet on your desk. The sheet was about a dentist that treats animals like zebras! Did your know that aardvarks are the hardest to work on because they can only open their mouth one inch!
Next like every other day was math! Today all we had was fractions, fractions, and guess what, more fractions! The first thing that we did was correct a blue math sheet which was of course on fractions. Then after that we worked on a two-page review sheet, which just like everything else was on fractions.
Next was gym. In gym we played an exhausting game of kickball. We were all sweating like we had just run a 10-mile race.
After our hard work in gym we played a game to help us learn our challenging wordmaster words. In the game someone says the definition of a word. Then whoever has that word on their card says another definition and so on. The first time we got through everybody in two minutes and thirty-three seconds. But the second time we got one minute fifty-four seconds. Man we were as fast as a terrified kid getting chased by an angry dog!
Finally it was time to relax. Can you guess what is next? Good try but next it was SQUIRT. In squirt we read our fabulous books and ate our delicious snacks being careful not to ruin our lunch. It was so quiet during squirt that I thought someone had turned on the mute button!
After reading in squirt we got to do even more reading. Next were reading groups. Some groups are reading "The War with Grandpa" and other groups are reading "The Westing Game". We got a whopping forty minutes to do our assignments so I think everybody got theirs done.
After our lengthy reading time we went into teacher read. During this time we could either work on our ABC booklet, do our math, or just listen. Right now we are reading "The Sixth Grade Nickname Game" which I must tell you is hilarious! Miss Everts says that we will finish the book tomorrow and boy do I sure hope we do.
Finally we went to lunch with rumbling stomachs! After lunch we had a wonderful recess where I played on the tire swings! It looked like everybody had sweat a gallon of sweat!
After a tiring recess it was time to get down to business. Next was social studies. Right now in social studies we are learning about the revolutionary war. Today we didn't read like usual but we did a review sheet, which had vocabulary words and regular old questions. Luckily we were able to use are notes. If we got done with our questions early then we were able to work on our ABC book, which is a book that we are writing and illustrating about the terrifying revolutionary war, which we luckily won.
Next unusually we went outside for an extra recess we had earned for getting forty-five class points. When I was outside during our amazing extra recess I noticed that there were people on the tire swing, people sitting and talking to Miss Everts, and people like me who were playing a exhausting game of basketball.
At last it was study hall and time to work on our multiple assignments that we had unfortunately gotten assigned to us earlier in the day. And before I knew it my twenty minutes of study hall was over I was walking out of the school into the amazingly nice weather
Wow, was I about to explode with enthusiasm when I burst through the door today! Why you ask? Because today was the day safety patrol was going on a field trip.... to the Royals' baseball game! Wow was that a treat. Although, you'll have to read on to find out more about the game, and especially who won.
Even though everyone was going to burst with excitement anytime now, we all knew we had to settle down because the game was at 10:00 and it was but 8:45. First, we settled down into math. In my opinion, it was an easy day in that era. All we had to do was correct an old review sheet. We only had one page to correct since we had already corrected the other a few days ago. It was on multiplying fractions. Some sections were easier than others, and I think most people can agree with me on that.
I could hear all the chatty voices as Miss Everts announced that spelling was next. Like routine on Mondays, we took our spelling pre-test. After, we all made our list for the week from the possible spelling words. Then, everyone went into SQUIRT. As we were all reading our exciting, adventurous books, Miss Everts called us up to golf. I didn't win anything, but I'm sure other students did.
"Fifth graders, if you are in safety patrol, and going to the baseball game, would you line up please", Miss Everts said in a quiet voice, being sure not to disturb anyone still reading. I saw everyone look up at the clock funny, and confused. 10:00 had come fast as a dog chasing after a luscious, yellow tennis ball. As I lined up, I noticed almost everyone, not all, people lined up to go. Wow, was the bus going to be packed, and I was right. Everyone was squished together like peas in a peapod.
When I got there, the game didn't start for a while, but that gave everyone a chance to go to the concession stands to buy wonderful tasting snacks. Some they had there were overly large pretzels, popcorn (of course), and dipin' dots, which I'd never seen at a baseball game before. In the first inning, we did pretty good scoring one point. You're probably wondering why one point is considered "good." Well, it's because in the next few innings we didn't score a single point! Just when we thought there was no hope left, we scored two whole points! In the end, we won by one point. Wow, that was a close one!
Meanwhile, back at school, the people that didn't go to the baseball game did some fun stuff too. For example, they got to do palm games. One game they did was called Solar Wars. It was about buying and selling things. I thought it sounded like a kind of reality game. After that they went to music, then gym. Although I don't know what they did, I'm sure glad they had a lot of fun. Then they got to play another palm game. They got to choose from many games like Solar Wars and Simplify. After that, they got to go to the computer lab. How fun! Once again they got to choose where they went on the computer. They also had the choice of Larson's Math. Of course, they got to eat lunch. Did you think they'd starve to death or something?!? Then they had recess, and came back knowing safety patrol would be back soon. The last thing they did before safety patrol came back was art. I was told they had an optical illusion theme. That would have been fun to look at.
After everyone got back from the baseball game, we did reading. Personally, I thought it was easy because most didn't have an assignment, including me. Instead I got ahead on tomorrow's assignment. After you got done with reading, it was study hall time. So technically, it was a reading/study hall time.
Finally the day was over and everyone stepped out the door wondering what tomorrow would bring.
The sun blazed down from the sky. It was Friday, and everyone was excited and hyper, as usual. Just then, the bell rang. As we went into the classroom, what was written on the chalkboard told us to do the next page in our editing book. Many of us finished.
It was 9:00, so we thought to get out our math journals, but Miss Everts told us we were going to go into the empty 5th grade classroom, so we knew that couldn't be right. We all went into the extra room and guess what? There were many people from Russell (which is where we were going for middle school next year) waiting for us and the other two 5th grade classes. There was one of the assistant principals, two counselors, and a whole lot of students there. They talked to us about Russell and what it's like, and then showed us an I- movie. After that, we split up into groups to talk some more about Russell. One of the students in my group I already knew! Before long, everyone left, except us of course!
If you were in our class, you should have studied because our spelling test was next. After we finished, we went right into SQUIRT.
We couldn't get too sucked into our books because suddenly Miss Everts stopped us. "We are going to listen to a few of our Roving Reporters," Miss Everts told us. A Roving Report is exactly what you're reading right now. It is where a person tells what happened in the day.
We are a great class. We proved this by earning all of our class points. Class points are when we do something great, like behaving when a substitute is here, we earn a class point. Today we voted for what we would like to do. There were many different choices, but we chose an extra recess.
After this, we had a really quick Study Hall. Study Hall is when we work on any homework that we have.
Whew! Look at all we had done, and we haven't even had gym yet! Speaking of gym, that was next. We played kickball the whole time. It was very fun and exciting.
Ahh. Time to relax. We sank into our SQUIRT books and let our brains have a rest.
"Thank you, Miss Everts!" we should all be saying. She let us have half an hour to work on our reading assignments.
Newsbowl! Next, we did something we haven't done in a long time. Newsbowl! We played Newsbowl. Here is a question from the Sports section. What unique prize does the winner of the Masters receive? I'll give you a clue: they are talking about golf. The answer is a green jacket. Playing Newsbowl was lots of fun.
Grrr! I bet all our stomachs were grumbling by the time we went to lunch. I had cold lunch because I thought it was really gross today. After lunch we went to recess, as usual.
When we got back from letting off all our extra energy, we had Junior Achievement. This is about jobs, making things, and stuff like that. We watched two videos.
For the second time in the day, Miss Everts was very kind to us. Mr. Vincent came in to watch us because Miss Everts had to leave. We were going to watch a Social Studies movie, but Miss Everts let us have an hour of Study Hall! Whoa! Everyone must have finished all their homework, but sadly I did not. Oh, well! After one hour, it was time to go. Everyone dawdled in the hallway, chatting with their friends.
Today I noticed that the morning sheet was a crossword puzzle. That was different. I didn't get done with it though but it was fun. After that Miss. Everts told us to get our math book out.
So next was math. The only thing we did was a review sheet. It was hard but some questions were easier than others. We only had time to correct the first page.
In music, which is always after math on Thursday's, we played with boomwackers. Boomwackers are plastic, hallow sticks that make music. It was cool and had a great beat.
Squirt was after music and I brought a great snack today. I am reading an awesome book titled The City of Ember. I'm not that far, but I already think it is good.
Next was the wordmaster test. It was hard but I only missed a couple. Many people missed only a couple or got one hundred percent.
Then we sort of got to give our brains a break by listening to some other fascinating blogs. They were funny and interesting.
Well ironically, after that we logged on the computers and looked at some blogs. They were filled with detail, but it was weird to read so many blogs in one day!
Yumm! Lunch was next and I had cold lunch, as I do almost everyday, because I do not like school lunch. I played basketball at recess and at the end I just got an awesome, lucky shot and made it!
Next was social studies and we read a couple pages plus two plays. I was General George Washington in one.
Time for assignment notebooks and the end of the day. We didn’t have very many assignments today but, about 10 or 11. We started heading out of the room once we heard the bell
"Good morning," said Miss Everts as we walked in the classroom. On the chalkboard it said, "Work on spelling sheet." On the spelling sheet, the directions said to find the opposite of each given word. After awhile, Miss Everts said to put away our sheet. Then she said that today is different because it is Wednesday. Miss Everts told the kids with even numbers and then odd numbers to get out their Unit Studies book and notebook. Miss Everts said that we were going to do lots of notes and I thought there was going to be a lot of groaning, but actually there was not. Honestly it was fun! We took tons of notes. After that, Miss Everts gave us a letter that we had to do by the next day. We had to pretend that we were a colonist and we had to write to someone tell them about the American Revolution.
After that, we went to gymsic and did a lot of square dances.
Then, we did grammar. We took an ELO test on listening.
Then we went right into reading. In reading, we had an assignment to figure out what days we were going to read and answer our question.
After that, we did our last assignment -- math. We did a math review about multiplying fraction. Then we rearranged our seats so we had less pages of math to do.
Last we had study hall. We finished all our homework.
Last but not least, we said bye sadly to Miss Everts, wondering what we are going to do the next day.
As I got out of my car, I noticed that it was raining. A lot of people were running inside. I looked down and saw a ton of worms by my feet! I started screaming and ran faster. As I unpacked my backpack I smelt this horrible smell! It reeked! The smell made me think I was in a men's cologne department! I walked into my classroom, checked in, and sat down at my desk. I heard everyone talking about the concert this afternoon. I looked around and everyone was really excited! On our desk was a TFK worksheet. TFK stands for Time for Kids, and it informs us about all the new cool things happening in our country. "Clear off your desk". That was Miss. Everts. "You can have your gum." We knew it was time the ELO testing. We don't normally do this. ELO is a test about the stuff we have learned about from kindergarten to fifth grade. Today, the ELO test was all about math. We stretched our brains by doing things with our bodies. Miss Everts read the directions to us and then said GO! It was almost as if I had heard a gun shot because I could feel our minds thinking, although we had to take our precious time. Precision. That was the expression on everyone faces we had to give a precious answer. I could still feel the excitement when I finished, it was 10:00 and from what I remember it was time for squirt. Miss Everts said we could have our snack, and continue with squirt. Ten minutes passed and now it is time for gym. In gym we played a game called Steal the Balls. The rules are simple, you do exactly what it says, and you steal the ball from the other team. As our sweating bodies got back to the classroom we did social studies. In social studies we read about the French helping the colonists and about the colonists fighting in Valley Forge. Then we acted out a play about when the colonial army set up their encampment at Valley Forge. It is sad to think about how many people died because of the cold weather. Then we took some notes and put all of our things away. Now Miss. Everts told us it was time to do our show you know. This is when you prove you know the meaning of your spelling words. Miss Everts then told us we needed to work on our ABC booklets. These are about American Revolutionary War. Every letter stands for something that took place in the Revolutionary War. We were supposed to do three pages and then we were done. Everyone was working so quietly I thought I heard the clock ticking. I looked at the clock and it was time for lunch. Miss. Everts told us to line up. For lunch I ate chicken nuggets. Recess was inside because it was raining. At one thirty choir went down to practice our songs. At two o'clock everyone went down to the gym for the 5th grade concert. It was like the excitement got let out of the jar because everyone was ready to hear the beautiful music we were about to perform. Band, orchestra and choir played some really good toe-tapping songs. I know the choir got some people clapping their hands and also some people crying. When it was done we grabbed our coats and backpacks on the way back to the classroom. We sat down at our desk to complete our assignment notebooks. When we were done Miss. Everts said we needed to vote on reading or study hall. I bet you can guess which one won. Yup, you're right! It was study hall. We all worked hard trying to finish our homework so we didn't have any homework later. It was three twenty eight, and Miss. Everts told us we needed to pick up ten things. As everyone lined up, we had to give Miss. Everts a hug or high-five or you would have to stay after forever! No, I'm kidding! We were all wondering what we were going to do tomorrow.
We walked into the building not aware of the clouds in the distance. We looked really tired and slumped into our desks. To save the day, we only had to read a TFK mostly about the 8.7 earthquake that hit Indonesia.
Then Miss Everts mentioned an unexpected ELO reading test we had to take until music. Being already half a sleep, we all the sudden woke up at the thought of a test. The test involved taking super short stories and answering questions about them. It wasn't the hardest test, but we had to take it.
We went into spelling and spelled our heads off for the pretest. We did this so quickly and quietly we even got it checked before music!
As we walked into the empty music room, we overheard Mrs. Noble sternly talking to some other kids. Then we quickly discussed some vocabulary words that we had on a sheet last music session.
Now we went back into s-p-e-l-l-i-n-g and wrote our lists in our fabulous spelling booklets. Then during SQUIRT, for the first time in weeks, we used pillows and golfed. We cannonballed, corkscrewed and dove into our books. A lot of us had fantasy books, because that is the next book project genre. It's a good thing too, because they're my favorite type of books.
Do you know what subject the interesting Revolutionary War was in? Social studies, of course! Today the people in the Native American group and African group shared their really cool posters about the war. Then we watched a very long movie on the Declaration of Independence and took 5 new notes on it. Next, we learned about the ABC booklet we have to do on the war.
Twelve fifty-five, read the clock, as Miss Everts told us to line up for lunch and recess. When we were out this time we saw the massive thunderclouds and people remembered the Tornado Watch issued this morning. People whispered as we scuttled to our desk.
Then, Mrs. Magstaff took us off into the world of counseling, as she read the book, Blue Cheese Breath and Stinky Feet, about a boy and a bully and the Plan. At 2:00 it ended abruptly and we lined up for the gym. People were as confused as a rock doing rocket science, but we soon learned that we would be listening to the Millard HAL choir. They sang 2 songs in Latin and they were the best choir I've ever listened to.
Ears ringing, we set off trotting back to the classroom. There we took the word master test on 9-16, including the word Grating. Then we checked 17-25 and did assignment note books. We packed up and headed outside, where the clouds were hanging ominously over us, and that was the end of this Monday.
This morning as everyone checked in as "cold lunch", you could tell we were all ecstatic. Today was our field trip to the bowling alley! The reason we all said we were having cold lunch this morning was because we were eating at the bowling alley! You either had to bring a sack lunch for yourself, or you could bring money and buy your lunch at the bowling alley. We soon realized, though, that we had three and a half hours before we went bowling at noon.
The first assignment of the day was to do the next page in our editing booklet. Before we knew it, Mrs. Levesque was on the intercom asking us to rise, put our hand on our heart, and recite The Pledge of Allegiance. Today, Mrs. Levesque also announced the winners of our Wild About Reading Contest. Each student records the amount of time they read that month. Then, the class that has the most kids who read at least six hundred minutes and turned in their sheets wins a certificate. Our class won! This is our third win in a row! Mrs. Levesque also announced individual kids that won a free book. I won for my class!
After those extremely exciting and busy thirty minutes, it was time for math. We worked on finding percents of whole numbers. We also worked on finding the list price if you know the discount price. We got to work with partners on our assignment because two heads are better than one. We also got to watch robots that some of our classmates made do simple tasks. The girls' robot went through a maze, and the boys' picked up a ball and put it into a box. The students that made the robots worked on the computer to program their robots.
Since we were going bowling later today, we didn't have gym. Mrs. Lindeman, our gym teacher, was going with us, so she had to teach the classes that are normally held at the time she was gone. Instead, we had spelling. We had to take our Friday spelling test. I'm sure everyone got one hundred percent or a minus one because we had been studying all week long. This week we were learning about words with a double consonant before the suffixes "ing" or "ed" at the end of a word. One of the words we studied was "occurring". After our test, we had to take ANOTHER test! On one of our questions, Miss Everts said, "What word does this definition go with ‘to complain’?” The answer is "carp"! I think the test was just a little hard. Since we have another Wordmaster quiz on Monday, we checked the definitions on words nine through sixteen.
When we got done checking, Miss Everts told us it was time for SQUIRT. We were all so excited to get to our books, that if you blinked you wouldn't have seen anyone put their Palms away.
Next, we sadly put away our books to go to Social Studies. In Social Studies, we got into groups. Each group read a different passage in our books. Then each group made a poster about the passage they read. The posters contained the main ideas.
Finally, it was twelve o' clock. We were as fast as cheetahs after prey when we put away our books and lined up to get on the bus. We got to go BOWLING! We went to Western Bowl. We got to bowl from noon to two-thirty. I got one strike! Mrs. Lindeman brought candy and stickers for when you got a strike or spare. We used nineteen lanes. My group was in lane one. We got to buy our lunch there too. We could have a hamburger, hotdog, or chicken strips. In the last thirty minutes of bowling, we cosmic bowled. There were bright, flashing lights. There was a disco ball and smoke. There were also music videos and a camera taping us so we could watch ourselves bowl on a GIGANTIC screen!
When we got back from the bowling alley, it was time for Junior Achievement. We read about unit, batch and mass production. Then, we had to reassemble pens. We tried it using unit production and mass production. When we tried it using unit production, we produced ten working pens. We had six workers. That means each worker produced 1.6 pens. When we tried it using mass production, we produced eighteen working pens. There were also six workers then. The number of pens per worker was three this time.
We went from ecstatic to exhausted as we lined up to go home and have a SUPER weekend.
Did you learn anything about Miss Everts' class that you didn't know before?
As we walked into the classroom we saw a green sheet on our desk. It was the morning sheet. We had to answer questions on the back of the morning sheet which was called "The Spirit of 1776".
Next we moved onto Math. We learned how to use percents to find discounts. Then we did a practice sheet. I thought it wasn't so hard. Music came after Math. We watched a video with James Taylor's songs. It was okay to watch.
When we came back to the classroom it was time for Unit studies. In Unit studies we read about the Declaration of Independence and wrote some notes on the writers of the Declaration and Common Sense. I already knew most of the stuff we read about.
After unit studies we took a wordmaster quiz. It was on the first 8 words of our 3rd wordmaster list. It was pretty hard since the wordmaster words were not on the board.
After the wordmaster quiz, we saw a Blue Sky speaker. We learned about stars and we even got to look at the sun with eclipse glasses. I’d say it was pretty cool.
After the Blue Sky speaker we went into study hall, and before we knew it the bell rang! We got out of school and waited for another day of school.
"Good morning" a smiling Miss Everts repeated to every student entering the room. " How easy!' I thought as looked at my pencil marked desk that had a pink, 1-sided, spelling worksheet. On it, we practiced the suffixes "ed" and "ing". I think everyone finished that in a flash.
Speaking of flash, we got to see a flash of the future in reading this morning. We read a strange story on a girl living in the future. It was titled: The Fun They Had. After the, well, interesting story, we reviewed what we read by answering five easy questions.
" Swing your partner...." the recorded player in Gymsic blurted out. Miss Everts' and Miss French's class danced to the fuzzy and unclear music for about a half-hour. It didn't look like much people were having fun. Maybe that’s why the two classes lost their recess. "Awwww man," everyone muttered. Today was potluck! What were we going to do? Everyone walked franticly back to the classroom. Miss Everts (or Miss French, whoever thought of it) had a solution but did not yet say. We had to concentrate on social studies though. Twenty-five pairs of eyes were glued on the small screen in the corner of the classroom. We were watching a movie on the Revolutionary War. After the not-so-exciting movie, we worked hard on repealing fake taxes that Miss Everts made us pay. If we don't pay we stay in for recess. Did I say why we were doing this? It's because we are pretending to be the colonist that had to pay taxes, which they were forced to pay.
S-Q-U-I-R-T. SQUIRT was next in Miss Everts' class schedule. The look on everyone’s' face told me that they all had interesting books. That doesn't mean that I didn't. The Summer of Riley is one of the best books I've read. And no wonder! It's a Golden Sower! But that doesn't mean all the Golden Sowers are good though.
Several students quickly, but quietly, trotted out the door and in the extra 5th grade classroom. "Why?" I wondered. Then I remembered that some people joined Math Olympia if they understood more than what Miss Everts' class was about to do. "Six times four and one-half." Miss Everts read off what she had just wrote on the chalkboard. After we talked about how to solve a problem similar to that, we did pages in our Math Journal. Including a math box to review what we had done on the last few units. It went by pretty fast.
We have the solution! We wrote sorry letters to Mrs. Lindaman and Miss Noble, hoping we can get off the hook on recess. Luckily, it worked. Mrs. Lindaman accepted the letters and all who were in the potluck could have a normal one once again.
" Here are the plates....,” various volunteers said to the impatient students who were dying for the hot, fresh, and pizza sitting on the long, narrow table. I think you can tell that that means the No Late Assignment Potluck was next. If I am joining a potluck, I have a small breakfast and no snack. So by the time the Potluck rolls around, I'll be starving. And I was! I think all students enjoyed the potluck.
I glanced at the clock. Wednesdays are one of my favorite days because we get out an hour and a half early! That means in a half hour, the students will be heading out the doors. "Your assignment books are out." Miss Everts said for the third time impatiently. I guess most of the students' minds were still on the enormous amount of food. Finally, when all the fifth graders' assignment books out, we went over them.
So many books! For about fifteen minutes, we all walked excitedly through to the Scholastic Book Fair. There were not as many chapter books, but a decent selection of books were at the fair. We jotted down some books we wanted quickly because of the limited time we had. But, everyone at least had one book written down.
Everyone toppled over each other to get out the doors. As they did, it was unpredictable what was going to happen tomorrow. Either way, I was pretty sure it would be as thrilling as today.
We were all relieved that Miss. Everts was back and the BIG victory by North Carolina! That was the big buzz that everyone was talking about!
Did you know that Connecticut is the healthiest state? Well TFK sure did. That was the next quest we had to do! Our TFK sheet.
8:45.... DING! Goes the second bell as everyone stands up like a pencil and puts their hands over their hearts and beginning saying We Pledge.... and so on!
Tick Tock... 8:50 came around the clock when our whole class started chanting, "Miss. Everts Mr. S was the best substitute we've ever had!" Miss. Everts said okay enough because she got up and ran 5 whole miles this morning! That would make my legs ache! Wow!
Queen Melissa ordered us to get our 25 pennies out. While doing that she put signs up on the blackboard that said "Desk, room, chair, and mailbox" 1cent and another sign said " Tissue " 1cent. She put yet another up that said "Drink from the water fountain" 1 cent and on the bottom it said " to fill up your water bottle" 2 cents! So we all paid 1cent to sit in our desks for today.
I think that we were all nervous to use the water fountain and tissues! I didn't see anybody use any of those items!
As 6th grade math left, the 5th grade math got out our math notebooks! As the odds lined up quietly but drowsy, evens were getting ready to line up just as quietly as the odd numbers too to leave the room. Can you guess where we were going? We go here every Tuesday! Okay, it's Larson’s Math. We reviewed the section Fractions. Later as we got back into the classroom we had a quite easy review sheet over fractions. It was from 4th grade. That was a whiff!
We file in a straight line down the halls quietly and head down to gym. The bowling ball fires down the gym floor. As we quietly walk out of the gym room we head back to the classroom.
What is the definition of offensive? Well, that is what we do Word Masters for! As we checked WordMaster Words 1-8 Miss. Everts told us the definition. Then we had to find out the definitions of numbers 17-25 (which is the rest of the words). Next I hear “Put your things away.”
After that our fantastic students Maggie, Trent, Tanner, and Tyler shared their roving reporters! They were awesome! They did a great job.
S-Q-U-I-R-T. As I walked around the room to put my palm on the charger, I saw people already into their books munching away! I could almost see crumbs falling into their books because they were so into them! I am at a great part in my book. I am reading Mr. Poppers Penguins. It's pretty good.
What Golden Sower are you reading? Well, if you want to you can see what the Golden Sowers for next year are! Miss. Everts showed us the Golden Sowers for next year. They looked pretty good! I have to say. I think that if you like kind of like weird creatures then you might like some of them.
Social Studies came next. We did a quick review sheet although some of us did not get done with it. We had an assignment to read pages 294-299 it was pretty interesting! For example what is the definition of tax? Miss. Everts stopped us in time so we didn't even get started. It was time to head to lunch! A's line up please Miss. Everts ordered! We tip toed down the halls to lunch because there were voters in the hallways! I had cold lunch (like always). I don't really care for the schools lunch! As we headed out to recess after getting dismissed, we got to go out in the slightly warm weather. I can tell you it wasn't as sunny as yesterday! Squeak goes the whistle. We lined up in classes.
As we walked into the classroom we sat down quietly just in time for Mrs. Anderson to come in and talk to us about genres. We talked about Historical Fiction and Mysteries! We saw some books that she would request.
Later we had about a 30 minute study hall until it came 3:00 then we had to clean out our desks for 5th grade family night! Mine was already clean. Others were not! As we piled up our gatherings we loaded our backpacks and picked up pieces off the floor and the buzzer rang! Time to head for home or for our future American Idol contestants it was time to go to chorus!
What a nice day! This morning in school, we had to read our T.F.K. magazine about kids who worked on a farm.
In Math we worked on pages 275-277 it was fun.
In Music, we sang songs for the whole time.
F-a-s-t-e-n-e-d, you guessed it. It was time for our spelling pretest. The rule was about words ending in -ed and -ing. Then, we copied the words that we got wrong in our spelling notebook and went into squirt.
In squirt, we got to golf, and if we got the ball in the hole, we got a piece of candy. While some people golfed, the other ones read their books and ate the snack that they brought.
In art, we painted our African rain sticks and masks. It was messy, because when we got to the end of our rain sticks, we had to put our hands on the other side of the rain stick. In the end, we got our hands all dirty.
It was a nice lunch, and at recess, some of the fifth graders had full band practice.
After lunch, we had a substitute teacher. In grammar, we filled out a worksheet.
In unit studies, we had to answer questions 1-4 and read the beginning of unit 8.
Reading was easy, because we talked about the vocabulary words.
We filled out our assignment notebooks and packed up for the day. What a beautiful day!
Clever, sneaky, and slick tricks were playing through everyone's mind as everyone started thinking about what their pranks were going to be because today was April Fools Day. But before we could start doing that, Miss Everts said "All those must wait until 3:30 after school." With that off our minds, we had a new Word Master list, which we got yesterday. Today's morning assignment was to write definitions to the words 9-16. Those words were kind of hard. The words were fatigued, precision, rebound, bland, pauper, reek, explicit, grating, and pluck. We wrote the definitions on the application Address here on our Palms. That didn't take long.
As soon as what feels like just a blink, the clock read 9:00 a.m. I noticed that the present people that go to sixth grade math were still in our classroom and not where they usually go for their math class. Math is not going to be the same as usual, everyone thought as they walked up with their Palms. Then all of a sudden we were getting four whole math games beamed to our Palms. The games were Angles, Hexplode, Summing, and Simplify. Angles is a game where you have to try to guess how big the angle is shown and the closer you are to getting it right you get less points. For this game you want fewer points. Hexplode is played by trying to figure out where you should put the hexagons. Hexplode is also a strategic thinking game, which makes it pretty difficult. That was the hardest game in my opinion. Next, we had the wonderful game called Summing. You play Summing by having this grid of numbers and then trying to get this certain number to add to two or more of the numbers in the grid. Summing is a fun game because it is challenging and fun. What an interesting math or what?
STRIKE! SPARE! GUTTERBALL! In gym, which was next, we played, yep, bowling. This time in gym we had a little competition between the 7 teams that we split into. The highest score a team got was 221. And guess who won it? Team one! That was my team. As the winners, we got a sticker and a bag of animal-shaped, fruity, and delicious fruit snacks.
Quickly, we got back to the classroom and we knew since today was Friday it was time for our spelling t-e-s-t-s, tests. We finished that quicker than before, or at least it felt really quick.
"Once you get done like most of you have already, go right into SQUIRT and eat you’re snacks if you brought one from home," Miss Everts said after our spelling tests were done.
SQUIRT, lasted oh, about 15 minutes to about 20 minutes. During our awesome and intelligent reading time we worked on something in little groups at the very same time.
As we were reading, we worked on our African rain sticks. The short, big, wide, thin, and all the other rain sticks were getting a new makeover. First, we took some newspaper and taped a layer of it to one of the sides of our brown cardboard tubes. The next, and not to mention the noisiest, step is of the rice. We took this little paper cup and filled it with little grains of rice. Once we heard the amount of sound we wanted it to have, we just simply repeated the first step. We now took the newspaper and masking tape back out and taped the other side. Whew! That was exhausting. But that isn't all. We now took paper mache, that is a messy but fun hardened paper you use for cool projects like this one. We used a bucket full of water to have it stick to our tubes which are going actually look like African rain sticks soon. Just kidding, but anyways it again, was a messy thing on your hands but comes right off. That took a lot of time that we had for some but not all the people.
Yummy, yummy, in my tummy. Almost everyone’s stomach was singing that song as we walked on down to our lunch cafeteria filled with lots of the delicious food. Shortly after was recess, which was the best thing for that hour of the day. What warm and wonderful weather it was!
As that little change of the day kept going a very fun thing was going to happen. This guy came in and did this computer program with us. It was fun because you have apparently lost 4 probes somewhere on the planets and you have to figure out where they are or what to use to get them back and repaired. It is a difficult and perplexing program but it is fun! We finished 2 whole rounds of it and found two Probes.
Junior Achievement was next, after an already fun day. When Mr. Upcraft came in to talk to us he said he would do a little skit with Miss Everts on what a job interview would look like. Did you know that some job interviews could take up to two whole hours? And that it isn't polite to chew gum during an interview? I didn't know either one of those things before today. We also took this little quiz on what we might want to be when we grow up based on things we like to do. When I finished the quiz I ended up with was definitely not what I would’ve chosen as my future career.
Well, as everyone was wrapping up the day as if it was a present we didn't have many assignments, just Word Master words from this morning and our book project if we aren't done already. As soon as Safety Patrol left, everyone got his or her bags packed up, and everyone was ready to go home the bell rang. On my stopwatch it read 6 hours 53 minutes and 31 seconds, which isn't quite right, knowing I started it at the first bell but I knew it was pretty close. What a day! Now it was 3:30, which might have been a popular time, 3:30 marks the weekend has started and people can finally explode out with their April Fools Day Fools! One person even said quote, "It was a fun but interesting day." And I have to agree! That it was a wonderful day!
As we walk into the room we found out that at noon we would be having a substitute teacher coming in. So we started doing what it said on the board, which included four things. First, check in, two do the green sheet on your desk and number three said to complete both pages. Finally, four said to keep your Africa report at your desk. Wow! That’s a lot of thing.
In math we did a math box page 268. We learned how to multiply fractions, for example, three-fourths times two thirds equals six twelves. I think it was kind of fun.
Music was really fun because instead of going to the music room we went to the computer lab and made our own songs on something called Garage Band. In Garage Band you add a bunch of instruments and rhythms already put together like a drum kit would be a rhythm. That was so fun.
Next we went into spelling which was just a spelling worksheet. So when some people where doing their spelling sheet others were working on their rain sticks.
Next we blasted into our books for squirt. Soon we had to stop and go into reading. In reading we were assigned to different books and we had to answer different questions.
After that we went into language and answered some more questions like, '' the students take an arithmetic test so you would change that to "the student takes an arithmetic test."
Next we went into lunch. I had a taco, and it was actually pretty good. "Yes!" recess my favorite part. At recess a lot of people played basketball and the cheerleaders did backhand springs and all that fancy stuff. Soon we had to put a stop to our favorite part of the day. "Bummer.”
Next in class was teacher read. The book we are reading is really good. After that we worked on word master words on our palms. There are a lot of interesting words.
In social studies we got to watch a movie about the Boston Tea Party. If you don’t now what the Boston Tea Party is then sorry you will have to wait until you’re in fifth grade. After the movie we did a paper about American history. Already we were doing our assignment notebooks and walking out the door wondering what we will do tomorrow. :)
Burr, we all said as we walked into the comforting warm air in the classroom. We all looked at our desk and saw that we had a packet about endangered languages. We only got 5 minutes to work on it though.
Next, we went to the gym for jump rope for heart. The fifth graders had to jump rope for 2 hours. After the first hour, the first grade buddies came in and we all jumped rope together. Everyone was sweating frantically. This is my opinion; I think jump rope for heart is a really good time consumer.
Afterwards, when we got to the room we got to make masks. We just made the shape of the masks, but it was a very fun thing to do. We only had 40 minutes to finish it, but everyone finished.
Today there was no math assignment; actually, there wasn’t any math at all. HURRAH!
Social studies was next. All we had to do was read a few pages and then right down some notes. The day was pretty darn easy for the most part.
As usual, lunch followed and today we had cheesy macaroni. Since today we had indoor recess everyone rampaged eagerly to his or her class.
When recess was over we got a thirty minute study hall. Everyone finished their work and charged to be the first in line to leave. Beeeeeeep, the entire school knew what that meant. It was time to go home.
I sleepily slumped into the classroom because I was still partially asleep, I accidentally checked in on Thursday, but my classmate, Michael, reminded me that it was only Tuesday. Then I looked at the chalkboard, and it said put nametags on. I was thinking, "Why do we have nametags?" Then I looked over to Ms. Everts' desk, and I noticed that there was a short lady with red, curly hair. On her nametag it said Mrs. Jones.
When I had gotten all settled in at my seat, I glimpsed at a blue blob at the corner of my desk. Once I took enough time to focus on it, I noticed that it was a blue sticky note. On it, it said, "Tyler, you are today's roving reporter. Don't forget to take notes." Again, I slumped over to Ms. Everts' desk where Mrs. Jones was seated. I grabbed a couple of sticky notes and slumped back over to my desk. Today I am no ordinary 5th grade kid; I am a 5th grade kid reporter. As mostly everyone finished up with their morning sheet about Ben Franklin, we got out our math notebooks because we were going to the computer lab to do Larson's Intermediate Math. If you were wondering what Larson's math is, it is a math program for 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. At about 9:55, we came back to the classroom and did a blue worksheet on adding and subtracting fractions.
Strike! Can you guess what is next? Gym, but I bet you can't guess what we played in gym. We bowled. We were each set up into groups of 3; in my group were Alexandra, Casey, and myself. I bowled 3 strikes and 2 spares. After gym, we all walked back to the classroom with our hands behind our backs. Which is what we call the "Willowdale walk." When we got back, the paper passers, Alex and I, passed out the spelling worksheet to everyone.
In spelling, our rule for the week is vowel, consonant, vowel, and consonant. We got about ten minutes to work on that. Next, we all stampeded over to the bookshelf to get our big, green reading books. We read an autobiography about Jean Little. She had polio, but not just anywhere. She had it in her eyes. She was always cross-eyed, and she couldn't focus on anything. In the book were five questions we had to answer.
Next, we had to complete a grammar worksheet, which, basically, shows us how to use our spelling words for this week.
In social studies, we had to cram in some new events and facts about the 13 colonies: like we learned about the Boston Tea Party, which wasn't really a party. Also, we learned about the Committee of Correspondence and the Continental Congress. To help us better understand how the Boston Tea Party really happened, we watched a movie on the Boston Tea Party.
Finally, the clock struck 3:10 and we all got to play a good old' game of Hangman. As the bell rang, and all the other classes rushed out of their classrooms, we gathered our things and scurried out the door.
Ring... Everyone ran into the building. Most of the 5th graders were excited for two reasons. One reason was that is was finally getting nice outside and the second reason was that the 5th graders were going to the S.A.C. Museum today! Miss. Everts normally writes our morning assignment on the board and today’s assignment was to read our TFK. If you don't know what a TFK is, it's a magazine filled with updated facts.
"Please put your TFK away kids," said Miss Everts. If you were in our class you would know that meant it was math time. We have been working on adding and subtracting mixed numbers. First, we did part of page 266 and then finished the rest of the page by ourselves. After that we were assigned pages 267 and 264. It doesn't really sound like a lot to do because we had to cut math short. We were going to the S.A.C. museum.
When we got to the museum the classes broke apart and buzzed around the museum. I personally liked the stations and my favorite station is when we tried to get the rovers into a certain spot by bouncing them. We also watched a movie, it wasn't the kind of movie that made you laugh or cry, but it was the kind of movie that made you wonder if there is life on Mars.
When we got back to school we had to take our spelling pretest and then write our personal words in our spelling booklet. The rule for this week was blends.
When we came back from lunch our counselor was waiting for us in the classroom. We had to get into our teams and work on a skit that had some kind of moral in it.
After our counselor left we had social studies. We read a packet that was about the Boston Massacre. The packet was written like a play so we got to choose the part we wanted. I chose Captain Preston. Captain Preston is a British soldier.
After social studies was art. We were making rain sticks. First we had to poke toothpicks into the paper roll. Then we had to take the toothpicks out and put glue on the holes and put the tooth picks back in. It took a while and it still isn't finished but it does look cool.
Ring... everyone hurried over to line up. Some kids were about to blow up. They just had to get outside. It was the perfect day for outdoor activities. We gave Miss. Everts a hug or high five and ran out of the classroom so we could let our energy out!
