Junior Achievement and Our Bake Sale!

friday, december 7, 2007 at 2:15:00 PM

Guess what happened last Monday, November 26? Someone special, very special came to our class! Her name is Mrs. McCurley. She taught us how our community works! She taught us about unit production and assembly line production, and taxes. And then she gave us a community map to color! She also made up a game for us called "Sweet O Donuts."
Speaking about treats, we had a Bake Sale on December 6, 2007! Antonia brought rice crispy treats, and Caroline brought cookies with sprinkles. We think Antonia's treats were the best! We were stuffed! See you again!

Well, on Wednesday it was Halloween. We had a BIG PARTY and we are going to tell you about it! Well, at the party, we had Teams A and B. First, Team B went out in the hall and Team A went scavenger hunting, and then we switched. When we went scavenger hunting we looked for ghosts, and there was a special black ghost. With the ghosts we had to spell words, and the special black one could be any letter. We spelled grave, ghost, witch, and broom. Of course we all had a costume. Alex was dressed up as a hockey player, and Jono was dressed up as Jack Sparrow. We all decorated bags of candy and put them in our bags, and of course we had popcorn.
Our teacher's present to us was that we did not have to do DLR (daily language review), and her second present to us was that we did not have to finish some work from that day. The bad thing was that if anyone had a yellow or a red square, you would not get to go to the party. That was the BAD thing! If we did get a yellow or red square and if we did not finish our work, we would have to go to the office. But everyone worked hard and kept their green squares!
The teachers were dressed up as the three little pigs and the big bad wolf. Mrs. Gibbons was the big bad wolf. And at Kids' Network we could wear our costumes after school. The Halloween party was Halloweentastic! It was the BEST PARTY we've ever had!

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART
People can do tricks with jump ropes. All the second graders went outside, and some of them did tricks like the crisscross and backwards. Some people had a break because they got tired. Some people didn't take a break at all because they weren't tired! Lots of people were down by the playground, and lots of people stopped jumproping for almost the whole time (but they finally got caught!)
KEYBOARDING
When we started keyboarding, we had to put our eight fingers on home row. We learned phrases to go with the letters. One of them is QAZ, and it stands for Quick Ask Zoe. And there is EDC and that stands for Even Dogs Can't. IK, stands for I Keep Commas. We have been practicing sentences, spacing, end marks, and capital letters. This is our fifth day of keyboarding practice. Now we know that keyboarding is FUN!

Our Trip to Fontenelle Forest

friday, september 28, 2007 at 3:03:12 PM

Last Monday we took a trip to Fontenelle Forest to learn about how plants and animals live together. First, we learned about air, space, water, and everything animals need. After that we had to choose one of the four teachers. We chose Norm to go with us on our hike. Our class found snail shells, weird leaves, mushrooms, and fungi. We passed another group on the trail, and found out that they had found a garter snake! Alex found a snail shell with a snail in it, and Cordell found one, too. Matthew found a weird slug that you could see his teeth. Logan found a caterpillar laying on the ground. It was black and white. Nick found a turkey feather. Norm showed us an owl and a red-headed hawk, too. We saw three bird hutches. It was so, so amazing to see them on tree branches! We saw spiders and webs. They were in hollow trees. We found out that oak tree leaves are big! The leaves that are facing the sun have more color than the ones that are facing the ground. Sydney found leaves with bumpy things on them.
After the hike, we talked about what we had learned that day. It was "animaltastic"! We had so much fun! On the bus back to school we played games like I Spy or Guess the Word.
