Thank you for the wonderful food that you sent for our potluck. The children had so much fun, and it was a great reward for lots of hard testing!
I am really excited when parents tell me they are reading the blog! Several students have even mentioned that they are reading the blog WITH their parents! Yeah! So, if you have read the blog by Monday morning, tell your child to come say the word "Ladybug" in my ear first thing in the morning and there will be a little surprise for them. SHHHHHHH! Tell them it is a secret! Next time the secret word will change.
The reading groups are really going well. The only problem is when some students are not prepared for group. It isn't fair for them to participate with the other prepared students if they haven't completed their work. It is so much fun to really enjoy a good book with the children. They learn so much, and children really seem to enjoy this great way of learning together!
Next week, there will not be a spelling list! The three day week does not lend itself to having a test next week. Wordmaster students will be getting their analogy booklets on Monday. Feel free to spend five minutes or so (each time the booklet comes home) helping your child by visiting about the word relationships. If some of the words seem too difficult, it is fine to skip over them, as long as your child is understanding the concept on the page.
This week, Miss Reimer started teaching the children how to write a friendly letter. The five parts of a letter were taught, along with doing more grammar work on plural nouns.
As you know by looking over the math homework, we are still learning about different types of graphs. Wednesday is timed test day. We are really working hard to reach goals with math facts! Thank you for your help with this very important skill!
We started our new science lesson this week which is all about space and technology. If any of you parents have any expertise in this area, we'd love to have you come and talk to the students! We have a VERY exciting activity planned to go along with this unit. I'll let you know more about it soon.
Today the midquarter reports came home. We had a discussion about what the different averages meant, and we spoke about goals for the rest of the quarter. If an average is low, it's a good time to really think about that and try to improve before the end of the quarter. A reminder is that writing grades are based on grammar and editing assignments. Also, there were very few grades in social studies and science for this reporting period (only two grades for science, and three for social studies). If your child has an average in a subject that is below a "3" and they would like an extra credit activity to pull up their grade, just let me know. Please return the midquarter report by Tuesday.
We made a class "Smart Goal" and that is that we are going to try very hard to keep names off the NOT DONE chart. This includes getting assignments done on time, returning Friday folders promptly, and getting planners signed each day. It would be great if you could ask your child what we talked about with our Smart Goal. Also, if you could ask them frequently if their name is on the chart, that would be great too.
The semi-annual auction is coming up before the holiday break. If you could continue to send cheap items for the auction, or slightly used items that would be fun for a third grader, I would really appreciate having them.
Next Wednesday, there will not be a blog. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and please know that I am very thankful for wonderful students, supportive parents like you, and a beautiful school in which to teach. Thank you for everything you do!
Sincerely, Mrs. Haller
Now I am happy to report that the AWA writing assessment is officially over for the year. The children worked so hard to do their prewrites, rough drafts, revising, editing, and final drafts. These assessments have been sent in for grading. I hope we get good news when the results come back!
We are really enjoying doing the reading groups. Remember that for at least one more week, the students will have reading assignments to complete on time. They each have a packet to do, and pages to read. They are given some time in school to do the work, and what is not done must be finished up for homework. Parents are to initial the assignments after they are done. If you would like to help them with directions or explain a question, that is great. Just don't help them answer the questions, as it is a graded assignment that they need to do on their own.
Next week we will be working on writing a friendly letter in writing class. We will also continue to work on singular and plural nouns.
Math is quite different during this chapter. We are learning about bar graphs, line graphs, and pictographs. Please please carefully look over the homework with your child. So many homework papers come back with very little effort given by the child, and the assignment is important (and usually very short), or I wouldn't be giving it. A parent signature is so appreciated after you look it over. Thank you for your cooperation with this. Also, the math facts are still more important than ever. Next Wednesday, a quiz will be given over both addtion and subtraction facts. Students who are still using their fingers to do these quizzes aren't showing much progress.
On Tuesday, the students will be having their social studies test over unit two. Pages to review in the book are pp. 88-127. The children also have a review sheet that they brought home over the weekend.
One last thing, there will be a potluck on Wednesday to celebrate the fact that all of the assessments are finally done! I had a note all ready to send home, and forgot to send it! So, basically each child will be asked to bring one dish for the potluck on Wednesday morning. Be looking for the note to come home on Monday! :o) Sorry for my mistake!
Mrs. Haller
Terra Nova is officially over! Most children attended very well to the test, but some were in quite a hurry and direction following presented some problems. I did want you to know that I wrote little notes on the children as they worked if I had a concern. That way, when the tests come back, and there are areas of concern, we can first look back and see if I have notes that might explain what might have caused errors. I'm not sure when the tests come back, but when I do find out, I will let you know!
Next week Miss Reimer and I are very excited to start something new and different (for the next two weeks) in reading. Each child will be assigned a chapter book to read and also and assignment to go with their book. They will be given two chapters to read and some written work to do on those chapters, and will be given some time in school to work. If they don't get done at school, they will be required to finish up at home. Deadlines will be given, and the children will be expected to have their assignments ready on time. I thought it was important that you were aware of the change. After two weeks, we will go back to the regular routine that you are all used to.
The AWA assessment will be on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 11th and 12th. Once again, this is an important test, where students need to really try to do their very best. A good pep talk from home would be appreciated! :o) Please be sure your children are at school those two days, unless they are very sick. Thank you!
Math facts are being graphed by the students each week to show progress. This way, the children have a visual means of evaluating their progress. Those that are practicing are able to show great progress. Once again, I really need your help in getting both addition and subtraction facts "up to speed"! Remember that on Monday, the students will be writing the months of the year, in order.
For Wordmasters, the children will start playing games with the words. I will also be sending home analogy booklets for them to work on in the near future!
Today we made landform maps for Social Studies. The children really enjoyed the fun "hands-on" activity! We will be waiting two weeks for the mixture to dry, and then they will be painted! The kids will really enjoy doing that too!
If your child is Hot Tamale, or wins a ticket drawing and chooses to bring their pet, the best times are: first thing in the morning, right after lunch, or at 3:20. Just e-mail, call, or let me know what works for you a day or two in advance, and we will work something out together!
Now I would like to explain some changes that have been made in the entire third grade the last two days. In each of the classes, we have noticed too much talking, not listening to the teacher and others, and overall behavior concerns. This is not conducive to learning. The third grade teachers met with Mrs. Kelley to come up with effective solutions. She in turn talked with the third graders as a group, and addressed many of our concerns. The students have private offices that signal times when no voices can be used. If they talk during those times, think sheets will be given. The third graders know what is expected of them, and will be expected to follow all the rules. Each year the work gets harder. Every child needs to know that they need to listen each day and also follow all rules so that they can do their very best academically. We must all respect each other by using good behavior, listening to the teacher, and following directions. I know that the children will be much happier in a quieter setting.
It is chilly the children should dress appropriately for the season! Brrrrrrr! Stay warm this weekend! Thank you for all you do!
Mrs. Haller
We had a great Halloween party, and thanks to all the parents who spent so much time and energy making it a success! It was so nice outside, so we were able to break open our pinata outside!
Terra Nova testing has pretty much consumed most of our teaching time this past week. The children have been so well behaved and seem to be doing just great. I will mention that READING directions (all directions) and going back to check over work are two areas that you might visit with them about. No testing was done on Halloween; the last two tests will be Science on Monday, and Social Studies on Tuesday. So far we have had 100% attendance which has been so appreciated!
The next step for Wordmaster students is to really study the meanings of the words. It is important to know them well, so that they can go to the next step and use the twenty-five words when doing analogies. We will be doing activities with the words at school, and each night they should be working on memorizing the definitions. After next week, we will start on the analogy books which I will describe in next week's blog.
This week the students have been doing a creative writing about spiders. We worked so hard on how to write a good beginning that grabs the readers' attention. A week from Tuesday, each child will be taking the AWA writing assessment. We will do a practice AWA this coming week.
Tuesday is election day, and it would really be neat if you can include your child in discussions about the election. They will be doing a pretend vote here at school. Getting your child excited about what is going on in the world, current events, etc., is always such good background knowledge.
This past week we did a unit on "thinking at higher levels" by using a pumpkin theme. Along with that came the incredible pumpkins that the families decorated and brought to school. Thank you for your participation in this project, and I hope you were able to stop by school to enjoy the creativity of the third grade families.
Some of the children are progressing nicely with their +/- math facts. However, some are at a standstill. So, please know that if you are getting both a + and - timed test home in the Friday folder, your child has not passed the addition part, and needs to really study those as well as the subtraction ones.
Hopefully by the time you have read this blog, your family had time to enjoy a fun Halloween night!
Mrs. Haller
It was a pleasure meeting with all of you during parent teacher conferences. It is important that each student knows that parents, teacher, and students are working together for the best education possible! It is a fresh new quarter, and each child can work on areas that we discussed.
In reading this week, we read a darling fantasy story by Tomie dePaola. The focus skill was learning about how words relate to each other such as synonyms, antonyms, and words that have more than one meaning. This skill will help with vocabulary, comprehension, and of course spelling. Children should know that if they have a question when they read, they should go back to figure the answer out; not just continue to read.
In grammar we are working on common and proper nouns. Also, we are practicing writing a good prewrite for a descriptive paragraph. This of course is in preparation for the AWA assessment that is right after the Terra Nova test. Next week the children will be using their imaginations to write "spider" stories.
Some children have started on the Word Master Challenge. A separate letter came home telling the parents about this challenge. The children should have their word cards completely done by October 31st.
The math test was today. Hopefully, the children were able to understand the concepts for the unit. We will be moving on in Chapter 4 and will be learning about telling time, how to figure elapsed time, how to read a calendar, and how to make different types of graphs. Many children have reached the goal of completing 50 addition facts in two minutes. If your child has made the goal, they get to go on to subtraction. The other children who have not will be expected to reach the addition goal, and ALSO move on to subtraction. They will take two timed tests each Wednesday instead of one. These facts are so important. Too many children are using fingers to do math facts and do not do these facts automatically. They are slowing themselves way down, and it is time to be moving on. Just check the timed test in your child's Friday folder to see where your child is in this process. Thank you for your support in this area!
We are now working hard on Chapter 2 of Social Studies. It is all about why people build communities where they do. It might be because of landforms, climate, or resources to name a few. After we finish this unit, we will be going back to science.
Remember that the Terra Nova tests are here. Please be sure your child is at school unless they are sick and/or contagious. The tests will be done on November 6th. A separate note came home to explain a few things about this standardized test. Each child needs several #2 pencils, chapter books, and a piece of gum each day if they would like.
Just a reminder, that if books (especially little books) come home, they must be returned the next day. Some books are missing which makes it difficult for others. Thank you for your help in this matter. Last but not least, the pumpkins and salt map materials on due on Wednesday!
Have a great weekend! Mrs. Haller Miss Reimer
This week will be a little different format, just for fun! It will be more of a question and answer format! :o)
Q. What should I do if my child is unable to retell a page in reading after they have read it? A. Stress to them that it is SO important to summarize what they have read. Go back and reread the page!
Q. When will I find out the grades on the last few tests, especially the social studies, math, and science tests? A. I am keeping them to discuss at parent teacher conferences, so you will see them then. As soon as I get them graded, the grades will be on the parent portal.
Q. When will I get my child's report card? A. If you have your conference scheduled for Tuesday night the 14th, you will get it the Monday after conferences. The teacher work day is on October 15th, and that is the day I will be doing report cards. If you have your conferences on October 16th, you will get them then.
Q. What do I do if there is more to discuss during conferences than the 15 minute slot provides? A. We will make arrangements for you to come in before or after school to finish, so that I can respect the other parents who are waiting in the hall.
Q. How are the students doing in general after seven weeks of school? A. They are now working into a good routine, and understanding the expectations of a third grader.
Q. How do I know if my child is caught up on their work? A. Just ask them if they have a post-it note taped to their desk, or if their name is on the chart. If it is, they need to make arrangements to get their work done by Friday.
Q. What about the Terra Nova Test? A. Students will be starting to do activities to prepare for the format of the test. Reminding your child that doing their very best, checking over their work, and reading directions is a great idea!
Q. Why is so important to be to school on time each day? A. Students are counted tardy if they are not in their classroom by the time the second bell rings. Lots of directions are given right after the pledge, and if a child is just walking in, they are not ready for their day; they also miss many important announcements and directions. The day gets off to a rough start!
Q. Where will Mrs. Haller be next Friday? A. I will be in Utica, NE, for my son Ryan's wedding, that is on Saturday! Therefore, there will be no BLOG written next weekend.
I am looking forward to visiting with you at parent teacher conferences that are coming up soon! Enjoy your weekend!
Mrs. Haller
This was a good week in our class. The children are starting to understand how nice a quiet classroom can be for getting work done, and also doing it well. We are working toward special incentives for quiet transition times in class. Today it was great because it was so nice outside and they had earned a second recess for good behavior! Mrs. Haller loves great listening and direction following! :o)
This past week we read a great realistic fiction story about turtles. If you read the story with your child, you might have learned some great facts. We also learned that authors write for three main reasons: to inform, to entertain, and to persuade! Your third grader should be able to retell what they are reading to you at the bottom of each page! Try it and see what you find out about their reading comprehension.
This week we have been trying to finish up on our descriptive paragraph "rough drafts." After the rough draft, students will be taught to revise using the six trait rubric, and also edit, then publish. The AWA assessment will be right after Terra Nova this fall, so the children are learning skills to prepare for this big test. Also, we keep working on subject and predicate. This can be such a tough skill for third graders.
Today was the Chapter two math test. The children were quite confident as they did the test. We will have them graded and gone over and back to you as soon as we can. Chapter three involves adding and subtracting bigger numbers, as well as regrouping. This can be quite a frustrating chapter if your child is not quick with their +/- facts. This week some children made it quite obvious they are really studying their math facts ten minutes nightly; others are at a standstill or are going backwards! Please realize the importance of knowing math facts! A goal is to do at least 40 facts in two minutes!
The science test over rocks and soil will be on Wednesday. Children will bring home study sheets and books both Monday and Tuesday nights. We will also be starting our first Health unit which is all about our eyes!Kids LOVE this unit because they don't have much background on this topic and it is very interesting and fun.
This and That • It is wonderful how many students have their planners signed each day! Thank you! • The Character Counts trait for October will be RESPONSIBILITY. We are really going to stress this important LIFE skill. The tie-dye shirts are done and ready to come home on Monday. Thanks to Mrs. Putler, a parent from last year who dyed our shirts! They look just great. Each child should wear their blue Character Counts shirt on Wednesday, October 1st. • It won't be long until parent teacher conferences. I look forward to seeing you then. • As always, thanks for ALL that you do!
Mrs. Haller
On Monday morning at 10:22 it is officially Fall! What a great time of year! So much is happening with school, activities, and the like! Enjoy the beauty of the season.
Here in third grade we had another big week of learning. In reading, we had a great story all about the history of the Olympics. The kids were so interested because so many of them had watched the summer Olympics just recently. We had a great opportunity to learn about nonfiction stories. When your children are picking out books with you, remember that nonfiction books are so exciting for children, as they can learnso much by reading this type of literature. Also, when reading nonfiction, it is important that new readers slow down their reading rate to soak up the new things they are reading about!
We are learning about the six traits of a good writer as we work on the rough drafts of our descriptive paragraphs. So many of the children had trouble with the concept of subject and predicate in grammar. I slowed down and retaught this because writing a good sentence is so important to learn at this stage. If you note that yourr child cannot write a sentence that is complete and makes sense, or if it does not include a capital and end mark, please stop them and make them correct it. We started with the four cursive strokes this past week. We will be officially starting the cursive alphabet this coming week! Please do not teach your children the letters, as this makes it hard when we teach them another way. :o)
Many of the students brought home their first math test. We work so hard to go over the big tests in math with the children. If they did not bring their test home, we are still going over them, so they will be in the Friday folders this week. Math can be difficult for children if they are not studying their math facts. Remember that 10 minutes at least 5 times a week will make a huge difference! Also, if you noticed on the midquarter reports, your child might have had a big difference in their performance on the tests, vs. their overall math average. The math test average is much more indicative of how they are doing. In some cases, the daily work pulled up the overall math average. If the children cannot transfer information to the big tests, that is a concern that I have.
The social studies test is on Monday. Several review items were sent home to help the children study. We will be heading on to the rock and soil chapter in science, along with our first health units that will be complete by the end of the first quarter.
This and That • I cannot tell you how important it is for you to carefully go over the papers in the Friday folders each week with your third grader. It is impossible for us to get through all of the papers each week, so I depend upon you to go over the mistakes made on a weekly basis. I have some great volunteers this year that I will have work with the children too. If you have any problem with other parents working with your child to reteach problem areas on their papers, please let me know, and I will pull their papers aside. • Midquarter reports went out on Friday. These are meant to inform you of how your child is doing so far in third grade. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. Also, know that the parent portal is up and running, if you would like to track student grades/averages. • Library checkout day is on Wednesday. Children need to have their library books at school that day, so that they can enjoy the privilege of checking out new and exciting books. Some children like to recheck a book, and that is great too! Remember, the only way to become better readers is to read constantly! • Thank you for sending in the white shirts. We are looking forward to wearing BLUE shirts this year for Family Groups. Also, thank you for signing student planners each night. It is such a great home/school connection. You are such great parents, and I appreciate all that you do.
Enjoy the beautiful Fall weather!
Mrs. Haller
We had a good week in third grade this week. Here is a summary of what is happening, and some things to know for the future!
In reading, we continued to learn about narrative elements, including characters, plot, and setting. Remember that each night, each third grader should be reading thirty minutes. Also at school, children need to be prepared with a chapter book on the appropriate reading level for silent reading time. What is silent reading time? It is 15 minutes of time each day when children get to read the book of their choice for enjoyment. Some students still need to learn to appreciate reading for enjoyment. Their choices for books are so important at this age. Getting hooked on a book is the best! :o)
In writing, we continue to work on sentences, specifically subject and predicate. We are also working on using an organizer to plan a writing piece. The next couple of weeks we will be writing a descriptive paragraph about a favorite toy.
This week I started giving the stuents a bonus word on their Friday spelling test. This bonus word is a word they have seen during the week. It is meant for extra credit on the Friday test. We have been reviewing short and long vowel sounds.
The first big math test was given on Friday. I am anxious to see how the students did. In general, most students need to practice counting money and also giving change for up to $8.00. Please be encouraging your third grader to practice their + and - facts at least 10 minutes five times a week. It is so important that they learn these. A timed test is given each Wednesday, and improvement from week to week is the goal. When you see improvement in the timed test that will be in Friday folders, please really encourage your child, as that will really help them to stay motivated.
The students will be having their second science test on Tuesday of this week. They have been writing down the pages covered in their student planners, so studying those, along with studying the three green review sheets that will be sent home on Monday will be helpful. Also their science little book is a resource. The first social studies test will be on Friday. A review sheet will be sent home. You can help your child by helping them review for their tests.
This and That: • Thank you for all of the great supplies that you have been sending to school. Don't forget that the clean white t-shirt is due by Friday of this week. • There are many grades that have been posted on the parent portal. Also, midquarter reports will be coming home in the Friday folders this coming Friday. • Listening and direction following is in great need of attention in general. An extra reminder and practicing these skills at home would be appreciated! • Each Friday, the Friday folder comes home filled with notices and also papers that have been graded. It is impossible for me to go over each paper when errors have been made, but learning from mistakes is one of the best ways of learning! Please help me by going over all mistakes that you see on papers that come home in Friday folders each week. If you note that your child is having a great deal of difficulty with a certain concept, I am happy to help in any way. • All work is due by Friday each week. If your child is using the best use of their time, work can be finished on time. Some children need to learn to use the skill of using quiet morning time to work on undone work, and also other free work time. If work is not done by Friday at the end of the school day, they must stay until 4:00 to finish their work. Each child can see their name on the not done list, and if their name is ever on the list more than three times, they should know that they had better get busy. Other opportunities to get work done are from 8-8:30 every morning but Wednesday, and also after school until 4:00 every day but Wednesday. Each child that comes at either of these times must have a parent permission note to be in the classroom. • Sign and return papers have the purpose of letting you know that there is a skill that your child is having difficulty with, or else possibly they are hurrying through work and are making careless errors. I do not want the children to be fearful of these. They are meant for you to go over together, <u>fix all errors,<u>and return them to school the next day. As a parent, I never liked surprises on report cards, and that is part of the reason that I have "sign and return papers."
Thanks for all that you do to help your child each day with their education! Without you as parents, and working with you as a team, I would never be able to do my job of giving your child the best opportunities possible in third grade! :o)
Mrs. Haller
This week the children voted for Mayor of Hugbugville, our third grade community! Congratulations to Easton Babe for being chosen as our Mayor!
This week in reading, we read a darling story called "Nate the Great." This is a mystery story that the children loved. As a reminder, each Thursday night the reading book will come home with a Home Connection letter that goes with the story. The children are to read and discuss the story of the week to an adult as an extra preparation for the Friday reading test. This week we also spent time learning strategies to help decode longer words! Remember that there are lots of smaller words in big words that are helpful for children to recognize when they read.
Thank you for getting the spelling booklets back on Tuesdays. Just a reminder that spelling words that have reversed letters or capitals in the wrong places are counted wrong this year.
We are completing our "Short Stories" in writing. The children will have them on display soon in the hallway if you get a chance to see them. We are moving on to descriptive paragraph writing next week. Many students seem weak with their sentence structure and punctuation. We are emphasizing that too when we do our third grade assignments.
Math facts need to be practiced at least 10 minutes most nights of the week. I would say that a lot of improvement will be seen if your child works hard on these at lease five days a week. Right now we are really emphasizing addition and subtraction facts to 18. A math test will be given over Chapter One either next week or the beginning of the following week.
Science and Social Studies are being taught most days. You will notice that each child has a science and reading little book in their planners. Both books should be read. I would imagine that they each take about 30 minutes to read, so that can serve as the 30 minutes of reading time for two different nights. It is important that the books are read because for science it goes right with the unit we are learning, and in reading it has the vocabulary words for the week and also the skill can be practiced. It is time for both Science and Social Studies tests too. I always feel so badly when two or sometimes three tests fall on the same day. I try so hard to avoid it, but sometimes we are to the end of the chapter in several subjects at the same time. Always check the planner for upcoming tests because I really do try to give advance warning if at all possible.
This and That: • Please know that it gets really chilly in our classroom. The children have been getting cold, and then take their shirts and stretch them out or put their arms or legs in them to stay warm. It would be great if you can send a sweatshirt or sweater so that your child can have an extra layer if needed. BRRRRRR! • I'm finding that some children are not finishing a good deal of their work on time. If they have late work, their # is put on the Not Done chart as a reminder to them that all work is due by Friday unless told otherwise. Starting next week, any student that has their # on the chart, must stay after school until 4:00 on Friday. I hope this will eliminate some of the late work, and help the children to stay more focused. You can help at home by asking your child how many times their # is on the chart. If the after school on Friday set- up causes a big inconvenience for you, let me know, and I am always willing to work something out for you. • About five children still have not brought to school the letter from their parents about their third grader. I hope you are able to get those done as soon as possible, as they are MOST helpful for me in knowing your child a little bit better.
I think that is it for this week. I hope this is a convenient form of communication for you. I always put lots of important information in my blog, so if you are not able to read it online, just let me know, and I will send a hard copy home on Mondays.
The weekend is here! Enjoy! Mrs. Haller
I would like to begin by thanking you so very much for coming to Curriculum Night. Hopefully you found it informational, and that you had many questions answered. I will repeat that if you ever have any questions or concerns, you can get ahold of me at school by phone usually between 8:00 and 8:25, or 3:40 and 4:15. Also, emailing me at challer@mpsomaha.org is a very good communication tool, as well as writing a note in the planner. I am also happy to set up a conference to visit if that is what works best for all of us. I know that we are all working as a team to do what is best for your child!
This is the first "blog" of the year, and I hope you will find it helpful. Remember that if you are not able to work this from home or work, or if you prefer a newsletter, just let me know and I will send a copy of it home with your child on Mondays. This first blog will be sent home to everyone on Friday since there is information below about the science test that is important.
This past week in reading, we learned the skill of "Narrative Elements." This is just a fancy way of saying: "What is the plot, who are the characters, and what is the setting?" The reading books will come home each Thursday night of the school year, and the children are to reread the story of the week (with a parent if at all possible). Also, many times I will send home the reading "little book" that I referred to the other night, for the children to read with you over the weekend. Reading is so important, and remember to take the time to read with your child as much as possible. Believe me, it will pay great dividends in the years to come.
In writing we are working on a short story about a summer happening. The children need to work hard on sentence structure, and using capitals and periods. They are a bit rusty on this from over the summer.
Remember that spelling words come home each Monday night, and tests are on Fridays. Please return the signed spelling booklets each Tuesday morning.
In math we are learning about large numbers. Also, we are learning how to order or compare them by size. Remember that yellow math homework sheet is meant to be a link with you. If you could kindly look it over each time it comes home and then sign it at the bottom I would appreciate that.
The map test was given (today) Friday. I'm anxious to see how everyone did. Please keep reinforcing what city, state, country, continent, and what two hemispheres we live in. This is really hard for the kids. (If you're not sure of the hemispheres, we are in the Northern and Western Hemispheres).
Next Tuesday will be the first Science Test. It will be over the water section in the science book. The pages that it will cover are pp. 145-167.
