The phonics focus this week is on the r-controlled vowel sound made by -ur, -er and -ir. There is only one list this week because of the multiple combinations that make this sound.

Spelling December 8 - 19th
There will be no spelling lists this week or next. We are working on the first grade priority word list. This will be done at school.
A request for supplies and assistance for our gingerbread house project went home today. This is a two day project scheduled for next week. On Tuesday the students will be constructing their gingerbread house. Then, on Wednesday, the students will decorate their houses. This is a very fun project! The students enjoy having parents, grandparents, and other adults helping them over the two days! The focus this week is on the "sh" digraph. We are working on the digraph at the beginning as well as the end of words.
Many of the students only missed one or two on the pretest. If the words that were missed do not follow the digraph 'sh' pattern, then the students were given the B list.

Important Information for Next Week
There are several special events next week. We will be extra busy and having fun as well!
The Student Council is sponsoring a fundraiser for the United Way. The entire student body is asked to participate in Spirit Week. When you dress according to the theme for the day, please bring in a quarter to contribute to a class participation bank. There will also be a competition to see which class can raise the most moneyfor the United Way. Please send donations to school in a baggie or envelope with your child's name on it. The class that raises the most money, will win a pizza party from the Student Council.

Tuesday the 23rd is our picture day as well as our field trip to the apple orchard. Students can still participate in Spirit Week by wearing wacky socks. They must however wear tennis shoes for safety on the field trip.
