Here it was the last day of our first week of school and everyone seemed to be a little tired.

Though many of us would have preferred spending the day doing nothing but art or something fun outside, we had to get down to business.

On the shiny silver Palms we took our first Multiplication test using Math Ace. Next we sluggishly went over the math journal scavenger hunt from the day before and we had two winners. Then we were assigned our very first wonderful Math Box assignment! The first of many that's for sure! After finishing it we were all able to practice math facts and our memory skills by playing Math Ace, Math Card or Memorix. We are so lucky to have our Palms!

Next we all circled up to share our Super heroes! It was fun to hear what powers the other students gave themselves. Since we had a little time left a couple people were able to share how they and we were going to have a Super year.

It was then time to take a quiet stroll down to Ms. Carlsen's room for a delightful music class. Time seemed to just whiz by.

As we returned to the superheroey room we were given the assignment to write about our favorite chapter book to add some life to our Incredible's Reading wall and give other's to read. About twenty minutes later we joined Ms. S on the floor in front of the well positioned couch. She read a cute story about a boy who took his sister for show and tell. We went back to wrte about our thoughts on the book.

After lunch and a humid recess we had our Giraffe contest then it was time for the Fast Finger competition for the one place in the exclusive hot seat that is actually a really tall blue chair.
After four of our finest made it because of their earlier Quizzler scores and all answered it correctly the fastest was.... Alex!

He cruised through all the questions and climbed quite easily up the prize/point charts. We all watched as Ms. S began to sweat thinking that Alex was going to win all those prizes and she was going to have to "pay up!" With only the million left and all his lifelines gone he chose to walk away with all the prizes. Great job Alex!
Afterward all that was really left was a short studyhall before our first week was officially completed.
One week was over and today we got to watch Alex play SSS Rules Who Wants to be a Winner, hear one hilarious story read aloud, and finally share our wonderful superhero creations.

It's going to be a great year if the rest of the weeks are as good as the first!

It's the third day and most of us were getting the hang of the morning routine, which consists of choosing one of five lunch choices, doing the morning assignment, and turning everything in.

After sharing a couple of facts about ourselves we took a twenty-five word priority test. Next we marched down to the all fifth grade Wildcat Wednesday then out to recess we went.

After going over some more procedures it was finally time for Art, my favorite! We began by listing as many types of lines as we could. Someone said wavy, zig zag, vertical, and lots more.

From there, Ms. Sanborn explained the directions for our Line Art project. We were to use the oily craypas as our medium, construction paper, and off we went. First we drew some of our crazy ideas down on the scratch paper. As soon as we felt we were ready, we showed Ms. Sanborn and we put our sketches into action.
By then it was lunchtime.

After lunch we practiced Giraffe and it was 2 o'clock and time to leave. Where did the time go? It had been yet another great day because of the art, not graded spelling test and the early out!
It was only the second day of fifth grade, and it was very exciting and fun. We began by being greeted by Ms. Sanborn inside our half dark classroom as we made our way to our desks to read the overhead for our morning directions.

As the bell rang, the pledge was read, and we checked in, our day was officially underway.
Many of us received tickets for remembering to do the procedures we were taught yesterday or for turning in things that were due. Yea! We found out later in the day we can "buy" things with these tickets.

This mornings' get to know activity involved grabbing a handful of M&Ms. (I knew it's going to be good!) Each color represented a category. For the amount you had of that color you named that many in each category. For example, red meant food you liked. I had three reds, so I said pizza, ice cream, and cheese. That was fun because we got to eat them after we said our answers.
For the rest of the morning we talked about respect and disrepect. We also discussed more procedures we have to follow in the classroom to help it run smoothly.

After music and a short recess we did a fun straw activity. We had to put together the tallest tower using 40 straws with about a yard of tape in 15 minutes, but without talking to anyone in the group. It was hard not to talk. After we were done and Ms. S measured the towers and Alyssa, Andria, and Erin's group got their prize we talked about communication, foundations, and respecting each other. Later we wrote about.
After lunch and recess we got to use the fantastic Palms! I love using them because they are fun. Today we practiced Graffitti using Giraffe. Friday we have a class competition. Then we learned how to play Memorix which is just like the card game Memory.

Finally it was studyhall time and time to get some work done. Ms. S had actually assigned some assignments. We had to write the straw activity and the first day, as well as finish our superhero.

I would have to say these last two days have flown by and I loved doing the straw activity as well as eating the M&Ms. I look forward to seeing what Ms. S has up her sleeve for tomorrow,

At 8:35 we all started unloading our shiny, brand new pencils, pens, and other supplies. As we unloaded them into our new totes we were wondering what this year had in store for us. As the last couple parents wandered away with silvery digital cameras in hand, a familiar voice greeted us by reading the delicious menu and leading us in first of many pledges.

All the familiar sounds, sights and smells made it feel like we had never left for two months

The morning flew by. We spent time getting to know each other by thinking of an adjective that starts with the same letter as our first name the stated our name and shared something about ourselves. We have many students to remember like Charming Charlie, Nice Nikki, Artistic Andria, Outstanding Omar, and so many more! Though we went throught twenty five of us it went quickly. We also learned some of the classroom rules and procedures. Midmorning all the fifth grade classes met in the gym to hear Mrs. Kelley go on and on about rules and regulations in the gym, outside, halls, and everywhere else that Ms. Sanborn didn't seem to mention. Wow we have a lot to remember! Luckily we had a short recess to give our minds a break.

The rest of the morning we took a Pop quiz over Ms. Sanborn, went over rules, discussed respect, labeled some of our supplies and then lined up for what seemed like dinner because it felt so late, but it was only lunch time. One o'clock! Talk about late lunch, I'm bringing snack tomorrow!

After swinging too much at recess we headed in to act out the classroom rules. We were in groups of three and we all did a good job.

Since we had about an hour left before we left, Ms. Sanborn had us begin our first art project. We are drawing ourselves into super heroes since we are the Super Students this year! I think mine will wear a cape.
It's been a great day getting to know everyone, designing my superhero's costume, and getting to act. I can only hope the rest of the year will goes this well.
