After five days off, we finally got back. To start our morning off, we played Quads. Quads is a game Mr. Vincent beamed to us so we could play it. We played that for about 10 minutes. After that, Mr. Vincent told us about a wish list he put up on our web site. It told people about Palm programs that he thinks would be good for us and other 5th graders to use. We’re excited that people from all around the world are helping to make some of those programs!

For Math we corrected Math Box 7.7. Then we practiced adding negative numbers. It was pretty fun to do those, but we need to know how to do the adding because here comes subtracting fractions. We practiced for a little bit and then got called down for pictures. Today was picture day and we all had to line up tallest to shortest. When we came back, we were assigned pages 238, 239 and 240. After that, we had a Study Link.

After Gym, we had our book groups to do. We found out our book groups. The books are called Westing Game, Pinkey Pye and Castle in the Attic. After we got our books, we went into our groups and read our book pages. I asked Andrea how she liked her book so far and she said it was interesting so far. After that, Mr. Vincent made up a story about Tucker (his new kitten) so we could replace nouns, adverbs, verbs and more. It was sort of like a Mad Lib and he did it with a new program on his Palm. Lastly, we worked on our funny sentence flipbook. It was hilarious to read some of the goofy sentences.

For science we used our handelds. Mr. Vincent beamed us a new program called Idea Pad. It is a program that is like a map and you can spread it out so you can see it better. Some of the words we put on the map were opaque, transparent and translucent. The last thing we did was an experiment. The experiment was to put a penny in a cup and not be able to see the penny. Then you poured the water in and you could all of a sudden see the penny because of the refraction of light. It was cool.

To end the day we had Survivor: Fifth Grade Tribal Counsel and Hausa won with 100 points. Aaron was the ultimate survivor. He gets 50 tickets and a week on the couch plus the rolling chair for a week. The other people in his group get a day on the couch and 30 tickets. Pretty lucky! That put an end to our Survivor game. Mr. Vincent said we might play it again in a couple of months After that, the bell rang and it was time to leave. Those five days off are long gone!
