Di-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-ing! The first bell of the school day signals that it is time for school to start, and also the usual stampede in the fifth grade hallway at Willowdale Elementary. When I got into the classroom, I noticed that the morning message said to organize the tote trays, and to have the math tests from yesterday ready to turn in with a parent signature for five points extra credit. Once almost everybody got into the classroom (one or two people were absent), the second bell rang signaling that it was time to say the Pledge of Allegiance, The Kid of Character Pledge, have the morning announcements, and the start (for my class at least) of math.

In math, I have personally no idea what happened, because I went to a different part of the building to do something called Math Olympiad.

Following was Gymsic (a mix of music and gym). Today we learned a new dance that was an Irish Jig/square dance. We also did a dance to a song we already knew.

In spelling, we took our spelling pretest. When we wrote down our words (after the pre-test) for our real test, Mr. Vincent said we should do it very carefully because we were going to have partners check the words because Mrs. Cavasos was gone. Mr. Vincent said that if our partner found a misspelled word, we would have to pay them two tickets, and Mr. Vincent one, Then Mr. Vincent would give the person who found the word another ticket (two tickets is worth fifteen minutes on the couch).

And of course, there is always W.A.R.T. (Writing and Reading Time). Today Mr. Vincent showed us how to do a new Palm program called SpellIt made especially for our class. The real exciting thing about SpellIt, is that our class name is mentioned in the credits! Anyway, after we learned how to do SpellIt, Mr. Vincent first made us read our book group books. After we were finished with those, we made our own SpellIt lists out of the spelling words we have this week.

Next, one of my favorite subjects. Art! In this class, some of us painted the stained glass we made last week. The other part of our class practiced doing some one-point perspective art for next week. Jordan, a girl in my class said, "It's tough at first, but once you get the hang of it, it’s easier.”

Then was lunch. I saw a lot of people eating the spaghetti and salad, but I mostly saw a ton of people banging, or dropping their bread sticks on the table on purpose, and none of them breaking.

Following lunch of course was recess. Most people were playing jump ropes, some playing basketball, and some playing on the playground.

After recess, there was only a half hour of school left, because today was a short day. While Mr. Vincent did read aloud, a lot of people tried to finish their artwork. When the last bell rang, everybody went home to enjoy a nice evening before we go to the symphony
