Hey it's me again, to bring you inside another wonderful day at Willowdale in the classroom of Mr. Vincent. Well we better get started.
We started off the day with no happy and no sad faces. We had to turn in two homework assignments and then for the morning message, we had to list all of the facts about the sun as you could think of.
For math today we learned about circumference, diameter, and radius. Then Mr. Vincent ,on the Elmo, measured a roll of toilet paper for an example. Then he told us that we could walk around the room and try to find circular objects and then we would measure whatever that object was. Then after we had six objects we had to find the mean, also called an average. Then the excitement of the day for Mr. Vincent, you will never believe it. He told us what pie was. Exciting, don't you think? Here is an example of what type of questions we had. If a bicycle wheel went around once and from the time it started rolling by the time it stopped rolling it went 5.2 feet, What is the radius? The answer is 1.3. Can you answer this question? If a square has a perimeter of 12 inches what is the area? The answer is 9. Did you get a different answer? If you did that’s O.K. You’re not the only one. In 1975 only 7% of 13 year olds, 28% of 17 year olds, and 27% of young adults got that question right. For an assignment for math we had Study Link. 10.8.
In music some of the students played Clementine. My group "The Mallets" went second of the two groups that played today. Then we sang songs like "B-I-N-G-O,” "She'll be coming around the mountain when she comes" and more.
When we came back to the classroom Mr. Vincent told us to grab our I.R.B.'s (Independent Reading Book's) because we were going outside. When we got back into the classroom we had to get out our handhelds because we had to work on our Sketchy animations or "Zoom.” Next those who were not finished with their Interactive Stories worked on those fun projects.
For lunch today the A choice was a chicken patty sandwich and B choice was a chicken wrap. After lunch we not only got our regular recess but we got extra recess for good behavior this morning during class.
For our very short spelling lesson today we practiced analogies. Then we had assigned page 129 in our spelling books.
For science we learned about the sun. Then we watched a "Bill Nye The Science Guy" video. Mr, Vincent said that if you have the "magical" fact from the video (one fact Mr. Vincent’s writes down and keeps in his pocket, then you would get four tickets. Taylor (the other Taylor) got the "magical" fact. The fact was that if you wear SPF 15 sun block, it protects you 15 times more that your regular skin would. Samantha said, "Learning about space is fun."
For read aloud Mr. Vincent read part of the book Crash. It was the big football game for cheerleader Penn Webb.
Well the day is coming to an end and it's time to head home for our big field trip tomorrow. See you there.
There it is. My final roving reporter article. I hope you had fun with us in our classroom. See you next year. Your favorite roving reporter, Taylor.
