Nothing Wrong with a Three-Legged Dog
by Graham McNamee

I can't believe it. I just finished an awesome book! It is called Nothing Wrong with a Three Legged Dog by Graham McNamee. It is my favorite book so far.

This book is about a dog named Leftovers and a girl named Lynda, whose nickname is Zebra, because her dad is white and her mother is black. Her friend, Keath, is the only white kid in his whole school so they pick on him a lot. His nicknames are Whitey, Ghost, and Mayonnaise. He meets Lynda and Leftovers while walking down the sidewalk and they become friends. Leftovers is a three legged dog with only one ear. Later, they found out that there is a competition with three legged dogs, so they put Leftovers in the competition and guess what happens? He wins second place! Keath and Lynda have a bully named Toothpick at their school who always picks on Keath. Keath starts watching Toothpick. Once toothpick finds out, they get into a fight. Who wins? Well, you will have to find out for yourself. Leftovers is not a regular dog. He has only three legs and one ear.

I liked hearing about the other dogs with Leftovers in a competition for disabled dogs. Secondly, I liked that Keath used his imagination to see one thing as something else. Leftovers always did funny things. I liked the description of how Leftovers hopped place to place. The message of the book made me think.

I think the author is trying to say that everybody is different. But we all deserve respect because we are all special in some way. If you are different, you just don’t give up. Then again don’t give up on life or else it will affect your whole life.
