Have you ever read a book that you loved so much that you read it over and over and over again? I have. One of the books I am sure I will read again and is the book I read for my book report. It is called Fires of Jubilee. It is a wonderful book written by Alison Hart. Before I start my report I would like to tell you where and when the story takes place. The setting of the story is at a slave farm in Mississippi and it takes place during and after the years of slavery.
This book is about a girl named Abby that is stuck on a slave farm with her dad and her grandma. She was separated from her mother when she was a baby. Abby was so determined to find out what her mother was doing, and why everyone knew about her and she didn't. One day she noticed that Master and Mistress was hiding something. She searched for weeks and tried to figure out what it was that they were hiding from her and all of the other slaves. When she found out what it was she had to make a big decision about what she wanted to do: either stay with her Pap and Mamie, or to go find her mother.
What I liked about the book is that it was in history. For one, I like learning about what it used to be like before I was born and then comparing it to my lifestyle now. For two history it is the reason that everyones life is the way it is, and three, it's a great book. I don't really like to read that much but I did like to read this book. It was interesting to actually learn what other people lives were like a long time ago. If I just read one sentence I just couldn't stop reading.
I think that the authors theme of the story is that no matter what anyone else says to you, you can do anything that you want to. Also, you don't have to be anything your not because if people don't accept you for who you are inside, then what is on the outside that's not fair. Now I hope that you will also read this book and read it again and again and maybe request it to someone just like I am telling you this too.
