Bartleby of the Mighty Mississippi is by Phyllis Shalant. If you like turtles, adventure, and descriptive stories, you'll enjoy this book. I enjoyed this book very much, that's why I think you will too.

Bartleby of the Mighty Mississippi is about a pet turtle named Bartleby. Bartleby is a pet of three boys, Jeff, Josh, and Davy. Bartleby is just leading a boring life until he sees a television show about the Mississippi River. He sees another turtle that looks identical to him, but larger. He dreams about it daily. When he finally got to a small pond or lake, he meets an alligator, who is also from the Mighty Mississippi, called Seezer. When Bartleby tells Seezer he knows the way to the Mississippi, Seezer threatens him to lead the way or else he will eat him. Can Bartleby find a way to the Mississippi? Will Bartleby and Seezer stay foes or become friends? You can find out by reading this book.

I liked this book because it was very descriptive. I like how the author described some of Bartleby's dreams, and I like how the author explained how Bartleby felt. It felt like I was right there watching. This book is very understandable, and I think you will enjoy it.
