My book is called Secret Journey. The author of this wonderful book is Peg Kehret. This is my new favorite book! The girl in the book learns that a little good comes out of everything, and learns to work hard at what she does.
This book is about a girl named Emma, who has a great life until her mom gets sick. In order for her mom to get better she needs to be taken on a ship to a warmer climate. Emma's dad decides to leave Emma in Liverpool with her aunt and mean cousin, Odolf. He goes with her mom to Europe. Emma knows she will hate living there, so she decides to sneak on the boat her mom and dad are on. When she leaves, she wears Odolf's clothes disguised as a boy. When she gets on the boat (the one she thinks her mom and dad are on) she finds that she is on a slave ship heading for Africa! After a few weeks on the ship there is a terrible storm that destroys the ship. Emma holds on to part of the ship for almost 2 months until she floats to land. Once there Emma used the natural resources to survive until a ship spots her and takes her back to Liverpool. Her aunt then tells her that her dad is sending a ship for her to come to them in Europe!
What I liked about this book was that Emma almost always tried to be positive, and I think that helped me in my life too. I also liked the good word choice, and in every turn was a new excitement! I also loved how she found and made a shelter out of the resources in the jungle.I think the message of this book was, if you work hard you could do anything. Another message is always try to find a solution to the problem, and to look around at all the things that can help you, then use them. This wonderful book, and I think that anyone would love this book too!
