Ereth's Birthday
by Avi

The title of my book is Ereth's Birthday. The author of this great book is Avi. He has written three other books that go along with this one.

This book is about a mean old porcupine that eats salt. One day he decides to wander off to go find some salt because the mice next door were laghing at him and he got mad. He finds a fox caught in a trap and she asks him a favor. She asked Ereth if he would take care of her kits because she knew she was going to die. Ereth said ok and went to find the den. Ereth takes care of the kits until their dad comes home. He finds out he's being followed by a animal and gets into a fight with Marty the Fisher, but the kits come and help him. After the fight, all Ereth wants is to go home. Then Marty gets trapped by humans and gets taken away. So Ereth goes and there is a surprise for him, a big piece of salt!

What I liked about the book was when Ereth has to take care of the kits and helps them find the traps. I also liked the part when he gets in a fight with Marty the Fisher. I thought Ereth was going to die but then the kits came and helped him out. The best part is when Marty gets caught and taken away by humans, he then gets sent to a zoo.

The message of this story is if you give a lot, you get a lot. When Ereth helps the fox with her kits, even though he didn't want to, he did anyway. When Ereth got into trouble fighting Marty, the kits came and helped him fight because Ereth was about to die. When he got home he received a big chunk of salt as a present, so he got back a lot more than he gave.
