WhatDAREMeans to Me
by Charlie

Have you ever been asked to do drugs? I haven't! I would never want to be asked. But if I was to be asked, DARE taught me just what to do. Say NO! If you’re wanting to know how to say no, read the next paragraph.

Deputy Rieder told us that we should say no because there are a lot of consequences. First, is the law. If the law catches me doing drugs, I could get in big trouble. I might even have to go to jail! I would go to jail because drugs are illegal! Second, my parents. If they find out that I've been doing drugs (not that I have or anything,) they would probably ground me for life! Third, my friends. What would they think of me if I did drugs? Not very fondly. In fact, I probably wouldn't have any friends. The fourth and last reason is my health! I would have a higher risk of getting cancer and other diseases. So that is why I should say no to drugs.

Also, Deputy Rieder taught us eight ways to say no. They are: saying no thanks, giving a reason or excuse, repeated refusal, keep saying no (like a broken record), walking away, changing the subject, avoiding the situation, giving a cold shoulder, and strength in numbers. Those are eight good ways to say no. If I was ever asked to do drugs, I would use one of those eight ways to say no.

Lastly, I feel more confident in saying no to drugs. I want a drug free life so that I can live longer, have more friends, and so that I don't have to suffer illness most of my life. I will be a happier, smarter, and stronger person for saying no! Thank you DARE for teaching me how to say no to drugs.
