You get up and follow the sound.  By the time you're in the living room, the only thing left to hear is the constant beating of your heart.  You turn around to the crashing of your mother's brand new vase.  She's going to kill you!  Right now you just have to save yourself from whatever is going on.  Then, you see the front door slam.
