Today everyone came in with a slow start. We had a worksheet about a witch. Next we had math.

In math we did some pages. All of the pages were about using a geometry template. The template has different shapes, a protractor, and ruler. Page 100 was a graded Math Boxes. Next was my best subject, writing.

In writing we did a four square about a four-day school week. I could use one of those. It was hard to think of what to write. Finally we got started writing about the four-day school week.

"Yes" everyone said. We went to gym and we went through the Haunted House. It wasn't that scary.

Furthermore we had reading. We had to read We will never forget Roberto Clemete. I thought it was a really good story but some thought it was pointless. After lunch we had a group of people teach us about cells.

The cell activity in the gym was pretty cool. I was the Golgi Complex. which was a dried up sponge. We were all in a large plastic bubble that represented the cell membrane. Afterwards we had to take boring notes up to 22. That didn't take long.

Next was study hall I had to finish my painting. I was on safety patrol, but I was late. We all were so extremely excited because the day was over and tomorrow is the Halloween party!
As everyone trudged into the classroom, we saw on the board the schedule to Environment Enrichment Day! This is a day where all Willowdale students participate in different activities. Ms. Sanborn wasn't there until 9:00 so Ms. Noble our music teacher was there until Ms. Sanborn came.

Our first activity for Enrichment Day was learning about the different types of water and what kind of buildings could pollute lakes, oceans, and ponds. We also learned what you could do to stop the polluting. Everyone got to participate in this activity.

After we were done learning about the types of water, we went along 168th street and picked up all the trash we could find. We took about an hour and by the time we were all done, the whole class had bags full of trash. It seemed like it all wouldn't fit in the dumpster! When we finally got back into the classroom it was time to go to our next activity.

In Miss Everts’ room, we learned about trash. We took a quiz about what we learned during that time. At the end of that, we went back into the classroom and played Halloween Bingo. I got one Bingo and got a piece of candy! After we played Bingo for a little bit, we went to lunch.

Since it was Enrichment Day, we had a sack lunch. At recess, most of the boys played football. When we lined up, the whole school went into the gym for an assembly. Mrs. Kelley talked about what every grade did today and Mr. Vincent showed an iMovie that some third and fourth graders made.

Lastly, it was time to leave. We went back to our classroom and got ready to go home. I bet everyone can't wait until the next Enrichment Day!
Everyone ambled into school. When my classmates got into the classroom, they did a yellow sheet and a pink sheet.

After that we did math. We wrote on pages 92,93,94. On page 92 we did angles in any polygon. On page 93 we did dibbles and jimmels. The last page was Math Boxes.

We then got on to the floor and talked. We talked about getting a gorilla for a class pet! Of course it was a fake. We had two sides. One side was the side that said it was a good idea to get the gorilla. The other side said no.

We got up and went to the empty fifth grade classroom. Our buddies came and did some art. The strings people had to go. I was one of them.

When we got back we read about Sammy Sosa. Then we read Time for Kids. Finally we read our own books.

Next we went to lunch. Right after lunch flutes and percussion had to go to band.

After that when we got back from band we went to the classroom. We read.

Next, we did social studies. We reviewed about explorers that we learned about yesterday in the social studies book.

Finally, we had study hall. Some of us had to finish our wood painting. When the bell rang everyone ran out of the school. Tomorrow will be an exciting day because it’s Environmental Enrichment Day. I think that means no math!
Everyone walked into the classroom looking tired, because it was Monday morning, the first day back from our four-day weekend. Some people had wacky hair because it was wacky hair day. Everybody was talking about their four-day weekends.

After all the chatting, people started to look at the board. There were some confused faces because we were going to have some Millard West students come during writing. People were glad to hear that.

That was just the opening of the day. Next comes math. In math, we checked page 85 and we did page 88. Our assignment was to do pages 88, 89 and page 91.

In writing, which we only did for 15 minutes because of the Millard West students, we did a free write. I wrote about my basketball game.

Then came the Millard West High School students. They talked about voting with us, then we got to vote. The World Herald even came to ask if it was easier to understand voting now that the Millard West students came. That was the most exciting part of the day.

During PE we played Halloween games. Hope everyone had fun in gym. No one was really tired or sweaty after gym because we played fun, easy games.

After awhile we got all settled down and did reading. In reading we talked about what we thought was going to happen in “We'll Never Forget You, Roberto Clemente,” and “Slammin' Sammy.” And Ms. Sanborn read us a poem called "Casey at Bat".

Next was spelling. All we did in spelling was play Bingo. Last week Drew won twice and this week Andrew won three times! Great job, Andrew.

Yummm! For lunch we had sausage pizza, Shaker Salad, or, my choice, hot dog. Then, of course, was recess.

After a hot, sweaty recess, we cooled down by having library. It was fun. When we got back, we read some more.

That was only the start of the day. Next was social studies. We got out our social studies book for the first time this year. We read some pages, then it was over with social studies.

End of social studies is usually the beginning of teacher read. Instead, today we read and talked about voting. Finallly, the last subject was study hall. All we did was work, work and work. Then school was over, but I still had choir. Everybody rushed out the door, pushing and shoving, to get to choir. That was the end of our first day back from our four-day weekend.
"Good morning class today we will have a different schedule," Ms. Sanborn said in her perky voice. "We will not have math today!" The cheers were loud and everyone was as happy as having a sleep over. Anyway, today we started with our reading groups. We all shared our jobs that we had to do. We also had a sheet that said to write about the main characters, the setting, problem, and solution.

After that, we had taken our science test over Structures of Life. We has to know the parts of planet and animals cells, kingdoms, and more. I would say it was pretty hard but I hope everybody did great!

Next, we went to gymsic. We had done so much fun dances like the skeleton dance and the marching dance and much more.

Finally, it was time for art! We had been painting with watercolors. That was so fun. Except for Math Olympiad. They had to leave right during art. Too bad for them.

Not to long after that, we had went to lunch and recess. It was cold as ice.

Later we had started our Weekly News Bowl. There was a question that lasted for a long time. The question was, “Which two teams in the top ten lost?” That was almost impossible!

Finally it was time to go home and enjoy our four day weekend!
BRING! Every body rushed in to the room happy to see Ms. Sanborn. Our morning assignment was to copy a poem in cursive about Halloween. It sent chills down my spine!

During 6th grade math, everyone thought adding and subtracting fractions was not challenging enough. Lots of kids from 5th grade did HAL Math and made Origami. The paper cubes they made were awesome.

Next came writing. We had to write about a Halloween night using a special paper to find good words. I hope everyone’s is very spooky.

During reading everyone was put into their book groups. Most people finished their books. Drew said the book Robin Hood is very exciting.

Following reading we had our weekly spelling test. My partner was Drew. I hope everyone got 100%.

After spelling we all went to lunch. Our choices were chicken noodle soup, a cheeseburger or a turkey sub. I had the delicious cheeseburger.

After yummy lunch every body read silently during SSR.

Next we had to study for our huge science test. My study partner was Aaron. I hope every one studied well and will get an A.

Instead of teacher read today we got to read about the presidential election. This is a very exciting time for our country!

It was about time to pack our bags. Before we knew it we all left happily.
After we all scuttled in to the classroom we decorated two Hy-Vee bags for the grocery store’s first birthday.

Math came and we corrected our Math Journals. When we were done checking, Ms. Sanborn taught us a game to help us learn about polygons. After the game we had to do three Math Journal pages.

Soon we had writing. In writing we wrote one page in our journals on whatever we wanted.

Coming up next was gym. In gym we had to see how long we could jump rope without messing up. Then we put the jump ropes away and our gym teacher split us up in to two teams and gave each person a squishy ball. What we had to do is throw the squishy balls at the big ball(s) that our teacher put between the two teams. In order to win you have to make the big ball(s) roll across the other teams side.

Reading was our next subject. We met with our book groups, read, and fixed up our worksheets.

Next we had spelling. We did a yellow sheet and studied.

At 12:55 we had lunch. I had Choice C, which was a hotdog. Recess was next. For fun my friends and I stole the boy's hats and ran away.

Soon we had to go inside to do units. In units, reviewed our old quizzes and worksheets. Then came the fun part. We did two game shows. My first team got 2nd or 3rd place with 80 points, and my second team got 2nd place with 90 points.

When the games were over we had study hall until 3:30. And the bell echoes through the hallways. School’s out for Monday! Now comes the homework, yikes!
Everybody rushed into their classrooms as the school day started. The day was like any other ordinary day, and we won’t have school tomorrow, even though it's a Friday. The teachers will be working on report cards.

We checked in and read the overhead. The AM assignment was that we set up Sheets To Go. After we set up Sheets To Go, we could finish our stories.

At math we did pages 72, 78 and 81. Page 72 was questions about how many hours a student watches TV per week. On page 78 we copied a triangle on that same page. Finally on page 81 we did Math Boxes 3.6.

In gym we wore a pedometer. My class jumped rope for two minutes. After that we played Backboard. Backboard is a game that you try not to get hit with a ball. If you get hit with the ball or if someone on your team gets hit with the ball, someone on your team or you has to hit the backboard on a basketball hoop.

Next we did reading. In reading we met in our book groups. In our book groups we discussed about the book were reading. We also did our jobs and picked out new jobs.

After reading we did writing. In writing we worked on our first quarter story. We also edited sentence five in our editing books.

For lunch we had ravioli or a chef’s salad. I had the ravioli and I thought it didn’t taste very good. When we went outside for recess the temperature was in the mid 60's.

My class read silently in SSR after lunch. In SSR we can sit or lay down any were in the classroom. For SSR I am reading The Last Battle.

We took a Science Quiz after SSR. After the quiz we studied for the final test about the whole Structures of Life science book. Next we watched a Bill Nye science movie.

My class decorated and made buddy cards for our first grade buddies. We made the cards to give to our buddies when we met them. Some of my classmates have two first grade buddies.

When the bell rang everyone was talking really loudly. Everybody also sprinted out of the school. Everyone has left the school halls bare. Only the teachers come to school tomorrow.
Hello folks! Today was very exciting, but if you want to know it you'll have to keep reading. Everybody scampered into the room. Today was Wednesday. Then everybody cleaned their tote trays for a ticket. I got one!

We were getting to skip classroom work to do a team building activity in the gym. It was fun because we had to work together on hard challenges!

After the team building activity we started to work on our covers for first quarter stories. Then Ms. Sanborn announced "We shall now work on revisions for our first quarter stories.”

Then we had lunch! We were having Beggar's Stew. It looked really good, but I decided to bring a lunch instead.

Since today was Wednesday, after lunch we played the Weekly News Bowl. I think my team won!

That was my exciting day! Please read to all the blog entries to come!
As all the Super Students crashed into the room, we all stared at the overhead. We had to get as much art done as possible.

Next, was math. We checked our math journals. Then we used different compasses and drew circles.

Meanwhile, everyone got out their rough drafts for their stories due by Thursday. I was typing my rough draft so I got to work and I finished it!

Today was Erica's birthday! So her family was nice enough to bring us donuts. We were so hungry because we lost our snack for a week. Yum Yum!

Now it is time for music. We screeched as we scrambled to music. We practiced our musical and I got to be the Earth.

When we got back to class, we did one editing sentence. Furthermore, we did spelling test. I hope everyone did well on spelling test!

The Super Students’ stomachs were growling like crazy! The choices were corn dog or cheeseburger.

After a hot sweltering recess, we had SSR. Next was science! Wait why am I happy? Any way, we had a quiz. the quiz was about the five kingdoms and more.

Now is the part to be happy about! Time to work on art! I got mine done!

In addition, we finished Rescue Josh Mcguire. Josh got to keep the cub and Mudflap was ok!

As the Super Students left the building shouting and screaming, I guess they thought school was done forever.
The Super Students gathered into the classroom and worked on their A.M. assignment. All we had to do was to get as much art done as possible.

It was math, my worst subject. We checked pages 68 and 69 in our math journals. After that we took out our extra notebook and labeled them “Math.” We made different sized angles in them.

Next was writing, my best subject. We wrote our quarter stories where we write one graded story every quarter.

In gym we skipped three laps around the parking lot with our jump ropes. Then we lined up at the center of the gym for our game.

In the classroom after gym we were all exhausted. We couldn’t be sweatier! Panting, we plopped into our seats. We read a few pages in our green reading books.

Spelling was the easy part of the day for me. All we did was fill in a yellow sheet, and then study our spelling words with a partner.

For lunch we had delicious pepperoni pizza. Our other choices were salad and a hot dog. Some people couldn’t choose between hot dog and pizza.

In science was the beginning of our new unit. It was all the other things we had learned and more.

In study hall we worked on our art and math. I tried to do both. After the afternoon announcement, we packed our bags and went home!
As Sanborn's Super Students strolled into the classroom, they gazed at the overhead and did their morning assignment. The AM assignment was to work on our art.

After that, we had checked our Math Boxes. Math sure was fun on Friday because we had gotten to work with pattern blocks and different types of angles.

In writing we worked on our journals and had to write about if our family was going to move to a new state or even a new country!
We also had to write our final draft and it was a narrative.

In music, we had played the classic musical baseball. The girls’ team and the boys’ team had tied, and we were all good sports about the game.

In reading we had a test about the book Elena I hope everybody did great! Meanwhile, we had SSR, which was after lunch recess. SSR means Sustained Silent Reading.

Afterwards, we had done two sheets about reproduction in our science. We learned about sexual parents and asexual parents. We had also watched a movie about cells and how they work together!

In addition, we had read Rescue Josh McGuire. I wonder what will happen next!
I had a great time on Friday, and I hope you had a great time reading about it!
It was finally Thursday--one day before Friday! As every one got settled into their seats, they started to practice Math Card on their handheld computers to practice multiplication.

At 9:00 we started math. We began our lesson by checking Math Journals. After that we had to do Math Journal pages 63-66.

Then we had writing. In writing we worked on revsing and editing.

Later, we went to the front office to listen to a man talk about Lewis and Clark. I thought that it was interesting. He told us how the Native Americans used patterns to price their blankets.

Next we had gym. At gym we took a paser test. A paser test is where you run from one side of the gym to the other. There are also some beeps, and if you don't make it to the other side of the gym before the beep, then you get one X. If you get 3 Xs then you're out. You can also give up. And each time you get to the other side of the room you get a point. Ryan got the highest score of 75.

When gym was over and we were back in our seats, we ate our snacks and reviewed our reading book Elena. We also did a pink sheet on the vocabulary of the book.

Our next subject was spelling. We did definitions and studied.

It was now time for lunch. I had A which was pasta. We had inside recess today. I did a puzzle with Nicola.

After lunch we normally would have silent reading time, but today we did units instead.

The counselor was our next subject. She put us in groups of four and we had fill out a sheet together that was about all of us. I was with Maggie, Devon, and Jessica.

When we were done with the counselor our teacher had to go somewhere so the counselor was our teacher until 3:30. At 3:30 the bell blared and school was out! That was my Thursday at Willowdale Elementary School.
It was a beautiful Wednesday morning and everybody came crashing through the door! First, everyone checked in. Then we took our pretest, and it was super hard! We checked and we copied in our spelling notebook.

After that Ms. Sanborn passed out our four-square, and we wrote the details on the four-square in a piece of paper. I finished mine already.

Later, was Gymsic time. It was fantastic! First we walked around the gym to some music. After that we did a thing where you hold your partner’s hand and slide from one side to the other.

Additionally there was Art, the greatest time of the day! We did a rain forest painting. The so-called rules were to draw trees and animals and color them after Ms. Sanborn checks them. She checked mine and gave me the thumbs up sign!

Furthermore was Larson Math in the computer lab. We had to bring a notebook for help on dividing, adding, subtracting, and multiplying. It helped A LOT! I got a lot done because I was really focused on my math work.

Next came lunch time. We had the potluck for the people who did not get a late assignment. I got one late assignment, so I went to old, boring, and plain lunch! But it was still good. I had mashed potatoes and gravy with oranges. DELICIOUS!

At the last part of our short day was the Weekly News Bowl. On my team was me, of course, Laura, Micah, and Alex. Our team ended with 140 points! We were awesome!

Finally was checkout. Everyone ran out the door, and it sounded like a bunch of elephants in a stampede! I went last so I wouldn’t get hurt! There you have it. You've heard it from Kyle!
As everyone excitedly squirmed in to the room they made there lunch choice and got to work.

First was math. In math we checked our math test that we took to see if we knew the lesson. Then we had to do a Math Boxes page and a page that we used our SRB (Student Reference Book) to answer the questions.

Second was writing. In writing we learned how to write a narrative story and there were examples of a narrative writing piece too. Then Ms. Sanborn said we had to write a four square that was a narrative.

Music was up next and we had a sub. Music was exactly the same and we even sang the same songs.

Reading was next and we had to figure out what the reading traits were. After that we read a part from the story “Elena” in our Harcourt Trophies books.

Everyone's favorite subject was next, and it's called lunch. For lunch the choices were crispito, cheeseburger, or a turkey sub. Sounds good doesn't it?

After lunch was science. For science we showed our Sketchy animations on our handhelds. Sketchy is a program that you can draw in, and we drew either a plant cell or a animal cell. I chose the animal cell.

Then we had teacher read and right in the middle of teacher read the tornado siren went off and we all went to the gym. It turned out the siren was a practice drill and Mr. Vincent, Willowdale’s technology teacher, got an outstanding teacher award and a $25,000 check.

That was just another extraordinary day at Willowdale Elementary School!
Everyone trugded into the classroom shivering because it was 45 degrees outside. Everyone checked in and read the overhead. We had to fold a piece of paper and draw the covers of four of the books we have read this quarter.

Meanwhile, everyone traded math journals. We checked page 54. Next, we sat up front and checked over the math test we took on Friday. After that, we took a pre-test on the next unit.

It's time for reading! We talked about our new story Elena. We focused on the vocabulary and predicted what this story was about.

Next it was time for gym. In gym we watched a video that showed you how to perform a curl up correctly. After that we got a partner and had to do curl ups. It's time for the part that makes you tired. The "pacer." The pacer is when the tape beeps and you have to run back and fourth across the gym. If you don't make it to the other side of the gym before the next beep, you get a x. If you get three x's, you’re out.

When everyone finally got a drink, we came back to the classroom and did one editing sentence.

Next, we had time to study our spelling words. Most people got out their dry erase boards and studied that way. When we were done studying, we had a two-sided spelling sheet. I hope everyone does well on their spelling tests!

Once we were done with our spelling, we had a chance to work on our Sketchy animations that are about either a animal or a plant cell. I worked on my Sketchy to try and get it done. Unfortunately, I didn't finish it.

For the next thing, which is science, almost everyone growled because we had a science test. The test was all about the cell.

To finish off the day, Ms. Sanborn read some of Resure Josh Mcguire. What will happen next? Now it is time for study hall. I hope I get all my work done so I have no homework!!

As everyone cleaned up their area and "crossed off and circled" and all of the Super Students left so quickly, and thinking there is no tomorrow.
Today was the greatest day of the school week! Because it was Friday we still had a whole weekend ahead of us. Everybody rushed into class and read the chalkboard. We had to practice our Math Card on the handheld computers.

Soon it was time for the Math Card multiplication test. Everybody was nervous, but when it was over, everything turned out pretty good. Afterwards we had our unit two math test about computation. Now that's when we got really nervous. Lucky for sixth grade math student because they didn't have to do it.

In addition it was time for writing. We didn't do much. All we did was read a story from our writing journals.

Soon it was our Character Counts Kick-Off Assembly.
Our school was going to be on television! A news anchor and a sports guy from the Channel Six News were there. We sang and we made a rainbow out of the whole school. Mr. Vincent took pictures from the roof.
Meanwhile it was time for the reading test. The class was really anxious to get it over with. Luckily we got to use our reading book. Once we were done with our tests we got to do a Time for Kids sheet.

Eventually it was time for lunch, which was good because we were all starving. As usual we had a Shaker Salad and two other main dishes. After that it was time for recess. Once again, as we do every recess, we had a great time.

Next it was time for silent reading. We all had great books. Also Erica passed out cookies, which was nice of her to do.

Then it was editing. We had to go over the writing and edit it. After we did that, we had to rewrite them.

Furthermore, we learned about Sketchy on the Palms. We were also assigned to draw pictures of a plant or animal cell in Sketchy.

After that it was study hall. We all had lots of assignments. We started lining up by 3:25 pm. When the bell rang, we stampeded out of the room. So that is what our day turned out like.
8:35. Bring! Everybody sprinted into their classrooms. The day began like any ordinary day. My class read the overhead. First we checked in, second we did the AM assignment.

9:00! Math starts. In math, my class and I checked the Math Review. After we checked the Math Review, we did math problems on dry erase boards.

10:00! Writing starts. In writing we traced our hand and put the five senses on the fingers of the traced hand. After we traced our hand and put the five senses on it, we put our desks into groups of three. Our groups thought about and wrote down ideas of the five senses with the topic of HOT.

10:45! Time for gym. In gym we played a game called Backboard. Backboard is a game that you try not to get hit with the ball. If there are people that get hit on the shoulder down you should hit the backboard. We also did the chin-raising test during the game.

11:25! Time for science. In science we read about cells. Also we took notes about what we learned in this lesson.

12:55. LUNCH TIME! It's lunch time and the lunch choices are cheeseburger, shaker salad and deli sub. Then we had recess and there was so much to do at recess.

1:15! We just got back from recess and it is time for reading. In reading we chose what we think is the best question and answer.

1:30! Time for spelling. In spelling we put our own spelling words on one side of a piece of paper. On the other side of the piece of paper we wrote the definitions.

2:00! Time for art. For art we painted more of our paintings. We got to mix white, black, and the color that we chose to paint with into different tints.

2:40! Time for teacher read. For teacher read my teacher read a few more chapters of Rescue Josh Maguiar. When Ms. Sanborn reads the book, we are mostly in front of the couch in our room.

3:00! Time for study hall. In study hall my class gets most or all of their homework done. My class could do spelling, read, study the "Dear Mrs. Parks" chapter in the green book that we have in our room, or we could study the notes we took in science.

3:30! Time to go home. Everyone packed up to get ready to go home. Everyone rushed out the door like they think that there is no tomorrow.
