I could tell that today was going to be another great day because we got to make gingerbread houses out of the candy we brought to school, but before I get to that let me tell you about the rest of our day.

After I checked in, I went to my desk and worked on the sheet that was waiting for me there. I don't remember what it was called, but it had all kinds of questions about me on it. Some of the questions were my happiest moment, this year, my favorite song and my favorite book in the year 2004. It was easy to answer the questions, because they were all about me!

Next was the sometimes-boring math. It wasn't boring today though, because we got to play a game called Mastermind. This is how you play. One person makes up a secret code of colors and what slot on the game board that each color has to go in. The code breaker tries to guess what slots the colors have been placed in before our guesses our up. Trust me, it's harder than it sounds.

After math came writing. We shared our morning assignment from yesterday, but I couldn't share because I wasn't at school when we were given the assignment. I was in Kansas City for the Chiefs/Broncos game and we stayed overnight at the Great Wolf Lodge to go swimming. That was lots more fun than any morning assignment Ms. Sanborn could dream up.

"Take out your book group books and job sheets!" Ms. Sanborn commanded. It was 10:55am, so the Super Students knew it was time for music.

In music, we had a birthday party for our month's composer, Michael Tilson Thomas. First, we sang Happy Birthday. We definitely had some trouble fitting "Michael Tilson Thomas" into the "dear ____" part. Then, we dug in to the treats! I had a cookie along with a lot of other people, but some kids had cupcakes instead.

After all that sugar, we went back to our classroom for reading. How lucky for Ms. Sanborn. I sat at my desk doing Monday's assignment, while my group discussed the pages they had read. When everyone was finished with the discussion groups, they went back to their seats. Then we had time to either read or work on our Books log. After about 15 minutes, Ms. Sanborn passed out an End-of-the-book sheet.

Next was spelling and today we had a test. I hope everyone got 100%!
"Take out your bingo boards!" Ms. Sanborn called. We got to play bingo for a while. How cool is that? Congratulations to everybody who won! And to everybody who didn't win, including me, better luck next time.

Finally after our grueling morning, it was time for lunch. The A choice was chicken nuggets, the B choice was hot dog, and the C choice was... I don't remember. Maybe there was no C choice. Oh, sorry. Back to reporting! After lunch we had recess and I froze even though I wore a hat and winter coat.

Everyone came in looking like Rudolph the red nosed reindeer. "Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, had a very shiny nose... "Gosh I did it again!

Anyway, it was time for SSR. That stands for "Something, Something, Reading." I read "Journey to Topaz." It's about a Japanese-American family getting sent to camps in America during World War II.

Next it was time for science. We got out our Palms and worked on our Energy Quizzler for what seemed to be a very long time. Then, we played a game like Jeopardy until it was 2:50.

It was at that time that Ms. Sanborn said, " Grab your gingerbread house supplies.” The Super Students cheered, and gladly walked over, grabbed their supplies and went back to their desks. We worked on our gingerbread houses for over 20 minutes. Mine wasn't the best looking, but I'm sure it will taste great.

Today was a fun day, but I was glad when it was time to go home. I wonder what surprises will happen tomorrow.


Today was a really fun day mainly because we got to choose what we wanted to do in gym. Well enough about that, I'll get to that later. I'll tell you more about the rest of the day.

First, we did our morning assignment; it was a yellow sheet that had space for drawing. The directions told us to draw our favorite holiday scents, activities, sounds, and more. I wanted to draw both sledding and opening presents as my favorite activity, I couldn't decide!

After Ms. Sanborn passed out tickets to the class for getting their planners and Friday Folders signed, we checked our Unit 5 study guides. Good job to the people who got 100%. Next we were assigned page 168 in our math journals and given time study for the Unit test tomorrow.

During writing, we got out our orange folders containing our End of the Quarter Stories. We got as much work done as possible, which was illustrating, proofreading, or even finishing some typing at the computer.

Next was gym, we played a game where we pull our partner on a scooter. Then we chose to play a game called Backboard.

After finishing that fun game we lined up and went back to the classroom to start reading. In reading, we had our book groups. Mr. Popper's Penguins met on the couch. Tomorrow is the last meeting for all the groups. That means all of us have to finish reading our books tonight.

Spelling was next on the agenda and Ms. Sanborn surprised us by letting us play a game of winter bingo. Once again, good job to the people who won.
After a couple of rounds we did a study sheet over our spelling words, and when we were done we wrote the words on our dry erase boards or our Palms to practice for the test tomorrow.

After I went to lunch duty, the class came in to get their lunches. The choices were French toast sticks, and shaker salad. Good thing some people brought lunches from home. Later we went out for a frigid recess until we lined up.

In science, we checked a science sheet we did last week. Then Ms. Sanborn told us to partner up with the person on a certain time on our partner clocks and we studied for the upcoming science test.

We were off once the Ms.S signed us out.

Though I said at the beginning that the day was great because we picked a game in PE, it was also great because of bingo games, studying with a friend and lunch duty. I hope the next two days are just as fun.

Yes! Today is Friday, the last day of the week and year, but I'll get to that much later!

Math was our first subject. I was happy when Ms. Sanborn said that we were going to have a multiplication-timed test. After that we switched Math Journals and corrected pages 159-161. I was having a good day so far, when suddenly it got better. We corrected someone else’s link next. Our next activity was working with fractions, decimals, and percents on our dry erase boards. Oh man! We had to do a Unit 5 study guide, to help us study for our Unit 5 test Tuesday.

In writing we worked our stories that we are writing for the end of the quarter. Most of us printed them out and illustrated them. I can’t wait to see them bound with the cover on them!

In music, we made birthday cards for a famous composer named Michael Tilson Thomas.

After music we had reading. In reading, we met with our book groups. In our groups we shared our job worksheets and read together. Our group is reading the book Mr. Popper’s Penguins and we had to laugh because on Friday we discussed how funny it was that Greta the penguin kept having babies in someone’s house! After our groups met we also partner read Time for Kids, but I had orchestra so I’ll have to read it later.

In editing we edited the last sentence in our editing books. I didn't have to edit because I got 100% last week. After editing we studied spelling with a buddy. I studied with Cydney and got two wrong.

Now it was time for lunch, the best time of my day because I finally get to chat with friends and feed my growling stomach. For lunch I had a chicken patty sandwich. At recess Meghan, Kelsey, and I ran away from some boys because we stole their hats.

After lunch and recess we did our usual silent reading. I read a book called Loser.

When Ms. Sanborn said it was time to put our books away, we knew to get out our science notebooks and Energy books. In science we first took notes, did a green sheet, and last, but not least took a quiz over lesson four. Luckily the last one of the Energy unit!

Studyhall was next and boy was I glad, I had plenty to work on.

I love that today was Friday because it went so quickly, we got time to work on our stories, we met in our book groups and thinking about it it’s the last Friday of the year we have to come to school! Well the year 2004!



Today was an awesome day because we had art, Newsbowl, and we got to go to the computer lab!! Let me tell you how we spent our day.

In the morning, we worked on our first assignment, which was to clean our tote trays and decorate a Hy-Vee grocery bag with a winter theme. When almost everyone was finished, it was time for the spelling pre-test.

The spelling pre-test was fairly easy because the majority of the class only misspelled a few words such as synchronize and resemblance. We exchanged the pre-test with buddy to check it. After we received our pre-test back, we wrote the words we missed on our blue sheet and in our personal spelling booklet. When we finished, it was time for writing.

During writing, we read our second quarter story to a friend. After we both read, we had to make ten revisions. Luckily, some students were ready to type their story onto their handheld. And that was the end of writing. Also Ben and Nicole shared their roving reports from Monday and Tuesday.

As it became time for gymsic, we all lined up at the door. In gymsic, we walked around the gym to a lullabye. When the song finished, we could sit wherever we wanted to. Then Mrs. Lineman and Mandy handed out a Christmas song packet. Some of the songs we sang were White Christmas, Little Drummer Boy, The Twelve Days of Christmas, and Jingle Bells.

When we entered the classroom after gymsic, Ms. Sanborn told us to put our desks into groups of four.

It was 10:30 a.m. and that meant that it was time for art. "Come up front" said Ms. Sanborn so that she could explain our project. It was to paint craft sticks for winter. Some of the ideas were to paint a Santa, Mrs. Claus, a snowman, a snowboard, icicles, reindeer, a candy cane, a penguin, and many others. The class got started and many of us painted a candy cane or a penguin.

During math, we traded math journals with a friend. Our class checked pages 156, 157, and 158. Many students got 100%. We all shouted "Yeah!" as Ms. Sanborn said there was no math assignment! Instead we reviewed on our dry erase boards. Afterwards, we went to the computer lab and changed a crumbled piece of paper (our survey) into a wonderful pie chart.

Finally it was time for my favorite part of the day - lunch! On the menu, the "A" choice was a toasty dog, the "B" choice was a shaker salad, and the "C" choice was a cheeseburger. Afterwards, it was freezing cold outside recess! The boys played basketball and the girls just moped around.

Upon re-entering the classroom after recess, everybody said "yes!" as it was time for Newsbowl. Ms. Sanborn said we had to fill out our assignment books first. Then she pulled name sticks from a cup to determine the teams. I was on Rachel, Nicola, and Kyle's team, but Rachel and Nicola had to leave early for safety patrol. At the end of Newsbowl, there were four questions worth one hundred points each. One question was about music (the artist of the year), one was about soldiers in Iraq(how many were killed last week), another about a ten year old girl getting handcuffed for bringing scissors, and the last question was what did a young girl bring to school that was illegal. We won't know until tomorrow which team won.

At last it was time to go home! As Ms. Sanborn signed us out, we all shouted with glee!

I wonder what tomorrow has in store for us? I’m sure it can’t top current event’s questions, art, and the computer lab time! But to find out, please read tomorrow's Blog.

Tuesday and so much to look forward to doing, from the concert, science, and the Spelling test.

As we came into the room, once again, there was a paper on each of our desks.  It was an A.M. sheet where we had to alphabetize Christmas words and objects.  We all turned in our assignments that were due and got down to work on the sheet.  It was challenging, but some kids got through it in a jiffy. 
 
Next we had math.  We worked on our surveys a little more.  Students had to come up with their own survey questions.  My survey asked the people in my class what their favorite dish was for Christmas Eve dinner.  Soon, Ms. Sanborn said time was up for working on the surveys, and we moved on to checking our math boxes, then our lesson for the day, using our template to figure out circle graphs.     
 
After that, we went on to writing.  We each worked on our end of the quarter stories.  Each person in the class must write an imaginative story by next week.  Mine is called “My Life as A Werewolf.”

After working hard on our writing for an hour we headed to music.
 
Then we met in our reading groups and discussed our five predictions and five I wonders.   That was followed by reading our assigned pages as a group.  My group is reading a book called “Brian’s Winter.”   It is a really, really good book about a thirteen year old boy who was in a plane crash.  He is trying to survive the winter in Northern Canada.
 
Luckily, after editing and the spelling test, next was lunch.  We had a choice of a hot dog or a turkey sub.  A lot of the people in my class chose the hot dog.  Yippee!  Next it was time for recess.  Many of the 5th grade boys played football.  Others played tag or just hung out with friends. 
 
After recess, we read our science pages.  We read more on our energy unit and learned about fossil fuels. 

The best part of the day was when Ms. Sanborn said we could go to the concert that Orchestra and Chorus were putting on for us.  The whole school was invited to listen to the music by 4th and 5th graders.  It was a Christmas concert.  They did an awesome job! 
 
After the concert, we had to take notes for science.  That made everyone groan!

Then we ended our day with studyhall.  Once Ms. Sanborn said it was time to line up, everyone rushed to get out the door.

Another tiring Tuesday ended with the songs from the concert playing in my head and the thoughts of good grades from the test dancing in my mind! This is the end to yet another day in Sanborn’s room.  

Today was Tuesday and was a little different for those in choir and strings because they had to sing and play their instruments at a concert in front of the whole school!

Today's A.M. assignment was a word jumble of holiday words. Some people didn't get finished like me, but we moved on anyway.

In math today we checked two pages. After we checked our pages we did a page about percent circles, we did it together. Then we were assigned another page about percent circles, and we got a Math Box page, too.

Next was writing, we took notes on verbs, then we had to list ten or more verbs in our writing journal.

"Line up for music!" called Ms. Sanborn.

In music we watched a video on our composer although I don't remember his name.

Then before lunch we got in our book groups. We met about the first exciting pages of our story that we were assigned. We also shared our five I wonders and our predictions about our book.

Right before we ate we edited, reviewed Word Master Words, and took our spelling test for the week.

After that we had my favorite part of the day, LUNCH! For today’s delicious lunch we were having hot dogs. I had one, but some people had lunches from home.

After recess and silent reading we were called to the gym to watch a concert performed by the orchestra students, and the 4th and 5th grade choir sang three great songs, both of the performances were great!

Now it's time for Science. In Science after we read pages 50-65, we also had to write twelve notes. The eleventh note was extremely long. After taking those notes we had studyhall time to work.

Today was very exciting now wasn't it?


" Yesssss, book groups!" everyone shouted excitedly. We were all excited because we were out of the green books and into books we wanted to read. Book groups were going to help make this slow Monday a lot more FUN!

In math we checked math journal pages 148, 151, 152,and link 272. Then we went onto learning all about bar and circle graphs. We found out how to find percentages, in the circle graph, make bar graphs and more. We were lucky because next we got to choose what we were going to survey people on to create our own graphs. We came up with ideas from Favorite Holiday cookie to Favorite Christmas TV show or movie.

In writing we opened our writing journals, looked through our new pink writing tip books, then chose a story to take through the whole writing process. We are going to make them into “real” books. Then right before writing was over we got out a piece of paper and numbered it to three. We got to choose what book we wanted to read for book groups.

It was then time for gym. We ran three laps and played a game with a ball and four teams.

When we got back we got out our reading journals. We put a date on top of a new page and on another page we also put different dates for when our book groups meet. After looking our books over we wrote five I wonders and five predictions. Then it was time to read!

Afterwards it was spelling, editing, and Word Master time. We did our Word Master word challenge first, not so fast. Then we edited sentence #1. After we studied our spelling words a while we got a yellow spelling sheet. Right before we left for lunch we got out our books that we were going read during silent reading after lunch.

At lunch we ate cheese pizza or shaker salad. We lost five minutes of our recess because we were too loud in class all morning long.

After we got back from recess we got our books, lined up, and went to the library to read or check out books. After we got back we put them away.

In science we checked science sheets, took a science quiz, and watched a Bill Nye video.

In teacher read we finally finished the Tale of Despereaux. What a weird ending. I wouldn’t have expected all that to happen, like the girl getting her dad back.

Lastly we filled out our assignment notebooks then the bell rang and everyone was out.

That ended what started out as a quiet Monday. It ended with the conclusion of a teacher read book and us beginning our own books.

Finally it was the last day of the school week, Friday. Ms. Sanborn was back and everything seemed like it was back to normal, Ms. Sanborn was finally going to teach math, but for the third day this week, she somehow got out of teaching it ..again!

Everyone started out the morning by doing their morning assignments. It was an analogy sheet. It was tricky.

At nine o' clock we started math. Everyone was confused because Mrs. Hove’s student teacher Mrs. Hinderaker came and taught us math. She did a fantastic job! In math she taught us how to change fractions to percents. The pages we did math were simple. We even stopped to tell Mrs. Hinderaker what we thought she should do to be a good teacher. After our suggestions, we were assigned a Math Box. Hope I got an A. We’ll find out Monday when we grade the page.

Writing with Ms. Sanborn. Writing is the best subject ever I think. In writing we refreshed our smart minds and wrote down adjectives in our writing journals from our B.E.A.R. we shared some and then we got to get into groups of three and write long descriptive sentences using the “good” adjective from the list we made. Some were really good. That’s all for writing.

Well Friday usually means music next, but guess what, we did not have it at our usual music time so we went onto our next subject, Reading.

In Reading which I love reading now because well, it's good for you. In reading we had our test on the story Island of the Blue Dolphins. I was very confident on how I did. When we finished we read a Time For Kids, then answered questions over it from a worksheet. It helped to use the TFK. Very tough! It was mostly about inventions and how they work.

To add to the day we had spelling.We looked up the definitions to our weekly list words. Definitions and more definitions! Some of my words were kaleidoscope, surveillance, and gregarious. Then we studied for the big spelling test on Tuesday!

LUNCH! Yeah lunch! I was so hungry after all the hectic subjects we had gone through! For lunch I had a sandwich along with an apple and a cookie. The school band played while we ate. It was fun to see classmates and friends performing some even started chanting Aaron! Aaron! The music was awesome!

Next, was silent reading time. I read Scary Stories. Science was after that.

In science we reviewed what we learned yesterday about heat and energy. We also were assigned a worksheet as well as time to study for the quiz on Monday.

To add to the day we had studyhall early. I finished my math box, then read some.

Lastly, we finally had music class. We had it with Ms. French's class at three o’clock! All we did was sang songs about Christmas like Up on the Housetop. Then we ran out like monkeys!

That concludes a tiring and learning packed week! I’m sure that next week will be equally filled with brand new things to learn and more work to do. I really can’t wait to see if Ms. Sanborn will teach math all five days next week or find more people to teach for her. You’ll have to read next week’s Blog to find out!

A substitute teacher! Will that mean a Viola Swamp type day (scary) or a day that we don’t even notice Ms. Sanborn is even gone. Read and see!

Just like any other day, we started our morning assignment. It was a sheet on analogies, but after a few minutes she said we were going to play Fisho. On the first game Andrew won and on the second game I won!

After that fun start it was time for Math. We started off by turning fractions in to really long decimals. Next we did a Math Box page. After a long but fun Math period it was time for Writing.

Today we lucked out because we got to read our stories about winter with characters such as Santa, reindeer, or even snowmen. To continue our study of adjectives we did a new page in our language books. Then it was time for Gym.


In Gym we played a game where you have to pass a ball to all of your teammates. Our team got beaten very badly!

Next was time for Reading. Today we reread the story Island of the Blue Dolphins, great story! I wouldn’t like to get left on an island alone with my little brother! To study the vocabulary we did a worksheet. I thought some of the questions were really hard! Then it was time for Gym.

When we got back to class Mrs. D ., our substitute said that it was time for editing. I found most of the mistakes, but I found a few extra ones too.

Next we went to lunch!Today for lunch I had a sandwich, cookies and a bag of Cheetos. After lunch it was time for recess. Outside I swung on the swings.

When we got in we read silently until it was time for Science. We started Science off by reading pages in our books and finally we wrote notes in our journals. [The unit we’re on is called Heating Up.

Finally, it was time for teacher read. We are reading a book called The Tale of Despereaux. The part we heard was about when Desperaux went to get the thread and the needle from the Thread Master. I wonder what he is going to use that for?

Finally it was time for the last part of the day, Studyhall. After twenty minutes of working hard, we started a game called Sparkle. It is a game where you say a letter from the word and at the end of the word you say Sparkle.

As you could tell it was a pretty ordinary day even though Ms. Sanborn was nowhere to be found. The substitute ended up not being a Viola. We do wonder if tomorrow will bring another sub, the same substitute, or will Ms. Sanborn reappear? I wonder what she did today?


Today is a very special day. Why, you might ask? For two reasons, one, today is Wednesday, which means it's a short day. Two, it is the "Fifth Grade No Late Assignments Potluck"!

The first subject we did today was spelling; we took a pretest. The hardest words were surveillance, kaleidoscope, and preposterous.

Next we studied Wordmasters and edited sentence number three in our editing books. Then Laura shared her Roving report in front of the class, like I will tomorrow. Right before Gymsic, Ms. Sanborn talked to us about Art, and explained our new medium: colored chalk.

In Gymsic, to start, we marched around the thin blue line in time to some music. Then we got in two circles with boys on the inside, and girls on the outside. We did a circle dance instead of a square dance. In the circle dance, first we clapped, then swung our partner, and then ended up with the person next to us to repeat the dance and keep moving on around the circle.

For art we made a poinsettia picture and colored it in with chalk. We only did that to fill in time because we aren't going to move on to the next project because some people were careless and didn't do a good job on the last art project.

Concluding the subjects of the day, we had math. We were assigned a math sheet on fractions. Then after math we had study hall.

Finally, time for the most thrilling part of our day: THE POTLUCK!! There was plenty of succulent food. People snarfed down their first helping of pizza, chips, and veggies or fruit, then scurried to the dessert table like flies to sugar. Once they tucked that away, they went for another round before dashing out to recess.

Time for Newsbowl! Newsbowl is a game where you have questions from parts of the news for different amounts of points, and the team with the most points wins.

At last, that perfect tone of the bell that ends our day resounded off the walls, and we were FREE!!

When everyone was coming in, sitting down, or even talking to one another all you could hear was the word "potluck." It was finally the day we were going to eat in music class!
Strangely enough we also began our day with a substitute named Mrs. Buckingham in the room, but so was Ms. Sanborn.   

When everyone started working, Mrs. Buckingham said, "time for math."   So that meant time to trade math journals and check our Math Box we did the other day.  I got a 100%. Yippee! Great job to the other Super Students that got a 100% also.  Next we had a lesson about fractions and decimals.  Then we got time to work on them.  That's when math ended. 

After awhile, we had writing.  First, we shared our winter storieswe wrote yesterday in our journals.  We only got to share three though because we had to watch Schoolhouse Rock, a movie about grammar.  Then Ms. Sanborn got back and Mrs. Buckingham left.  We were glad that Ms. S was back.  We then started editing, except for Andrew, Drew and I. I was glad I did not have to do it.  We have a goal for the whole class to get a 100%. If we do, we get to rip up our whole book and have a party.  This week's editing is from Island of the Blue Dolphins.  When everyone was done with editing, we had to list ten or more adjectives from the book we are reading or just got done with. 


Our next subject was music, but not really.  We went but the substitute music teacher, Mrs. Buckingham again, she said that Ms. Noble told her we did not have music today.  It was confusing!  So we went back to class to start reading. 

"Get out your partner clocks," Ms. Sanborn said in her cheery voice.  Yes, that means we get to read with a partner.  I was with Andrew. The only people who did not have to read Island of the Blue Dolphins were Reanna, Drew, Alex and Micah because they are in Classics, a more challenging reading group. They read a story out of their book.  After we finished the book, we had to go to our desk and pick three questions about the book to answer.  Hope everyone did terrific!   


"Ms. Sanborn, Ms. Sanborn, it's 12:30!  It's 12:30," the class said in unison.  "I know! I know! If you brought pop for the potluck, you may line up." I brought pop and brownies so I got to line up.  Then she called chips, then veggies.  Right when we got there, we got in line because everything was set up.  "Umm, food," everyone said.  Everyone gorged themselves so we were full. After we ate, we went out for recess, except for Erica and I.  We stayed in the music room and drew on the chalkboard.   


When everyone else came into the classroom, all we saw were red cheeks and red noses. They looked like a herd of Rudolphs.  Ms. Sanborn said we had to stay in our seats during silent reading. 
"Darn! Why," the whole class asked.  "Because you lost privileges," said Ms. Sanborn. 

Seven subjects down, one to go.  That means units.  In units, we did a science worksheet about energy.  We also studied lesson two with a partner.  After we studied, we took our Word Masters test.   

If you look on our schedule, you will find that teacher read is next.  So we all scurried down to the couch to listen to Ms. Sanborn read The Tale of Despereaux.  The Tale of Despereaux is about a mouse that gets sent to the dungeon, a rat that lives there and a little girl that kidnaps the princess and puts her in the dungeon.  Instead of chapters it has books. We are on the third book.  The third book is about the kidnapping and hopefully how the mouse saves the princess, even though he is so small.

Next and lastly of course is study hall.  In study hall a lot of people worked on their winter collage, including me.  I had to leave a little early because I had safety patrol along with some other kids in my class and other classes.

Today was a different day because we started a new lesson in Science. It is lesson two in energy, but I first have to tell you about the rest of the day.

In 6th Grade Math we had to take a challenging test over Geometry. Michael thought it wasn't too hard. I hope everyone got a 100 percent because we've all been studying Geometry for a very long time.

In writing today we had to write about a Santa, snowmen, and reindeer in a writing journals. I wrote about Santa skipping Christmas. Some people told me they had some crazy ideas. Next we learned about adjectives.

Today in gym we played a fun game. You had to dribble the basketball to the other side of the court. You get one shot, and if you make it you get to steal the ring from the team you scored on. My team didn't win today, but we sure had fun playing!

During reading we had to do vocabulary words from a book we are reading in our green books. The book is The Island of the Blue Dolphins. Then we explained the little books we read. There were three books so we split up the class into three groups, except for the people in the challenge book group. The challenge book group worked on other vocabulary words.

We didn't have spelling today because of our Word Masters test tomorrow. Instead we got to play a fun game. It helps us with our Word Masters. Our class is competing with the class next to us to get the fastest time. Our fastest time is three minutes, and that's pretty good!

Now about lunch, it was delicious. The A choice was pizza sticks, the B choice was shaker salad. Almost everyone got A, unless they brought their own lunch. During recess I played football with some friends. My team won.

After lunch, we all went to the library to check out a book or read silently. I read Spy High: Mission 2. It is a very exciting book about a group of kids on a mission to save the world.

In Science today we started a new lesson (like I told you earlier). Our new lesson is over heat energy. We wrote down many notes. We have a quiz on Wednesday.

Next, Ms. Sanborn read to us The Tale of Despereaux. In the story, Despereaux escapes from the dungeon and from the evil rats. By the way, Despereaux is the smallest mouse you will ever meet.

During study hall almost everyone was worked on their art which is due Wednesday. We are doing collages. By the end of the day, we were all happy to go home, rest and do homework.

Today we have two roving reporters which means you’ll probably learn twice as much about our class’ day, but here is my account of the happenings!

First off Monday mornings at our desks we get out our planners, math journals, and Friday folders. Ms. Sanborn comes around to check them. They are all supposed to be signed by our parents. If we do, we got three tickets. What a way to start the week with TICKETS! I’ll use mine later to buy candy or a pillow during reading time.

Next, we had to start math. First we had to check someone’s math journal. I checked Laura’s. We also had to do three pages in our math journal about changing fractions to decimals.

Later we had writing. We had to write a winter story about either a snowman, gingerbread man, reindeer, or a Santa. I chose Santa. After that we took notes about adjectives.

GYM TIME! We played a game where you had to run down the court, shoot a basket, then get a ring and put it on your cone. That was fun!

When we got back, Aaron read his roving reporter report from Friday. We talked about things we SHOULDN'T do on our roving reports from now on so we don’t bore you anymore. Some of us are kind of worried about doing it today.

After that we had reading. Everybody had vocabulary words to look up, write sentences with and find the parts of speech for. Then everybody and their book groups met with Ms. Sanborn. I wasn’t in any of those groups.

After editing the first sentence of the week, we played Around the World with our Word Master words. We didn’t do so well today. Four minutes!

LUNCH TIME! We couldn’t wait to have lunch. I had cold lunch, but almost everybody else had A, which was pizza sticks. Then we went to recess. All the boys played football, but the girls were everywhere.

When we got in from recess, we went to the library. We were there for 15 minutes. The time went by really fast.

Next we had science. We started our new lesson from the Energy unit. It was about heat. We also copied fourteen notes. Some of us were whining because our hands hurt really badly from all the copying.

After we filled out our planner, we had teacher read. We’re reading a book called The Tale of Despereaux. We are in the part when Roscuro and Mig went to capture Princess Pea.

After that we had studyhall. We all got a lot of work done what we needed too. The rest we took home to finish.
3:30 came. "Line up!" yelled Ms. Sanborn. So we lined up.
Ms. Sanborn checked us out and we ended our day.

Today everyone came in with a bang because it was the last day of the week. First I checked in and went straight to my seat.

Then was math "Ahh!" everyone said. In math we had to check somebody’s math journal. I checked Ryan's. Then we learned and practiced fractions and decimals. We were assigned pages 135-138 they are due on Monday.

Next was writing. During writing we reviewed and learned more about types and kinds of nouns, possessive and plural. We also had to do pages 101-103 in our language books. Those were about the new the new types of nouns. I had to finish those pages during study hall.

Next was music. In music we had a sign up sheet for our potluck on Tuesday for the 500 music bucks we earned. We also sang Mrs. Murphy's Chowder. Lastly in music we sang 50 Nifty United States.

Reading followed music. In reading we had a test about the story called Woodsong. After we were done with our reading test we had to read a small book at our level then answer three questions from the back of the book.

After practicing our Word Master around the room challenge, we played Bingo.

Then it was lunchtime. For lunch I had a chicken patty. Then I went out for lunch recess to play for 15 minutes outside. I played keep away.

After silent reading and grading our worksheets we had a science quiz over the first lesson in the book about energy. We lucked out after the quiz because we got to watch the Bill Nye video about Energy. It was funny!

During Teacher read Ms. Sanborn “shouted” to make the students go over by the couch so we could hear her read. It is about a mouse, rat, and a little girl. In today’s reading they all finally came together and met.

Next was study hall. In study hall everyone must have gotten a lot done because everyone was working quietly. Before we knew it, it was time to go.

As Ms. Sanborn signed us out as the bell rang we said our goodbyes, thought about our weekends and packed our bags.

Today was an exciting and crazy day. Exciting because we had gym today, crazy because we had so many activities to do!

First, we did our morning assignment. It was a pink analogy sheet.

After that, we worked on the best subject, math. We checked our Math Boxes and I got 100%! Then, we used faction sticks. That is where you add fractions with different denominators (bottom numbers) together.
Wow, that was tough!

Next, we did a puzzling sheet with proper and common nouns. I thought it was hard because there are so many nouns!

Finally, it was time for gym. In gym today we played a game where you would shoot a basket and if you make it, you could steal a ring from another team. Whoever has five rings first, wins. Everyone won at least once!

Afterwards, we had to read the story Woodsong from our reading books again to prepare for the upcoming test. The class was moaning when we had to do a three sided sheet about their book.
“Tomorrow’s the test.” Ms. Sanborn spouted out. When we were done with that, we read silently,but some people weren’t reading.
Since this was the subject of reading, Ms. Sanborn read from The Tale of Desperaux for teacher read, early.

Since it’s about one o’clock it was time for lunch. I brought cold lunch and boy was I glad because I don’t like their hot lunches! At recess people weren’t playing fair.

Science here I come! In science we had a two sided sheet and that was pretty hard. Buddy studying was awesome because your learning and having fun with a friend!

When that time was over we got into our counseling groups which Mrs. Magstadt had told us to do. She gave us a situation where we had to figure out we we needed and would do if we were stuck in Northern Canada. That was great for teamwork!

Now it was the end of the day and time for study hall. I was happy because that is when I try to finish all my work, but today I didn’t.

Well that time was over and it was the end of Thursday exciting but also tiring!

Since today was Thursday everyone was so tired they had to drag their backpacks to the coat racks from outside and take out all their stuff. When everybody got into the class they slowly chose what they wanted for lunch and did the am assignment.

Next it was time for Math. We are learning decimals, fractions, and percents. We first checked our Math Boxes and then we went over a link. When we were done with that we got our assignment: FOUR pages in our math journal!

Soon it was writing time. We are learning about nouns. We shared some nouns from our own lists and past roving reports then we opened up our green language books and started reading. We had an assignment with nouns on page 198 and 199.

Afterwards it was one of my favorite parts of the day, gym class. We first had to run eleven laps around the gym. Then we got to shoot hoops. After that we played a type of basketball game.

After gym we had reading. Everyone had to reread Woodsong. When we finished with that we had a couple pink sheets to do and once we finished that we got to read from our own books. Then instead of having teacher read before studyhall we had it before lunch.

Eventually it was time for lunch. We were all starving. We all got our food, sat down, and started chatting. Then it was time for recess. We all rushed outside and played for fifteen minutes straight until we had to go in.

Then we had fifteen minutes of silent reading time to read from our chapter books. We all have great books.

We soon had Science. We had an assignment, but it was okay. It was just a worksheet about energy and we got to use our notes and books. When we finished we got to study with our friends for the quiz we are having tomorrow.

The counselor, Mrs. Magstadt came in at 2:30. Everyone got into their groups. We got to do a simulation game in the empty classroom.

Finally it was time for studyhall. We all got to work on our homework, some us even finished all of it. At 3:25 everyone got ready to go home. At 3:30 the bell rang and everyone ran out the classroom. And that was our day.

Today everyone walked in the classroom with a smile on their face, because we were going to change seats today!

Today for the morning assignment we had to clean our totes, backpacks, and our boxes.

The second thing we did today was to present our Word Master papers. We only had to share one word paper because you got the word from the list that was the same as your number. You then had to put the word in a sentence and do the definitions on the paper before presenting it.

When we were done with that we learned about Stuart Davis so we could get started on our art project when we got back from Gymsic.

Then we had Gymsic. We had to dance with a younger partner [4th graders]. Next we danced by ourselves.

When we came back from Gymsic we started cutting out paper to put into our winter collage. After about 25 minutes we had math. Some people went to Math Olympiad, but the rest of us worked on our dry erase boards. Then had to do a Math Box. When we were done with the Math Box we could do any work.

At 12:40 we did editing. Rachael, Erica, and Willie were lucky they didn’t have to do it because they got a 100% on last week’s editing. I only missed one. Then we filled out our assignment books and prepared for Newsbowl.

Before we knew it, it was time for lunch, but today we did have to eat in the lunchroom because Laura’s dad brought pizza for the whole class to celebrate her birthday. YUMMY! Then we went out to lunch recess for 15 minutes.

Everyone came in from recess with red faces and hands because most didn’t have gloves on. Our ears were cold too because a lot of people didn’t have hats. There were a lot of sniffles.

We played Newsbowl lastly. I hope that my team won!

Two o’clock came and Ms. Sanborn yelled cross off, circle, and line up.

10.....9.......8.......7.......6......5......4....3...2....1 RING! We were out of school and off to our nice warm houses!


As everybody scrambled into the room Ms. Sanborn they read that the morning assignment was a pink analogy sheet.

The first subject of the day was Math. In math we did a page called Reading A Ruler on pg. 122. We then practiced cutting whole shapes into fractions. Our assignment was to do a Math Box and another page about reading rulers.

Writing was the next subject. In writing we shared a journal entry that we wrote during the school year. All of the pieces the people read were very interesting. After that we reviewed nouns and then listed winter words and common nouns in our journals.

Next was Music. Music was exciting like it usually is because we learned a new song called Mrs. Murphy's Chowder. That song was very challenging.

Reading came at last. We couldn't wait to read the story called Woodsong. After we read that with a partner we had to answer three questions at the end. At noon Mrs. Anderson came in and explained what made Newberry books winners. We took notes on our Palms for a quiz later this year.

Next we edited. In editing we edited and rewrote two of the five sentences that had mistakes in them. Three people didn't have to do editing again. Lucky them!

Lunchtime was next. Everybody started talking to each other. The A choice was a Crispito. The B choice was a hotdog. Yummy!

Units was after lunch, recess, and silent reading. In Science we read about energy from pages 14-25. That was easy. After that we took notes from the overhead to help us study for the quiz on Friday.

Lastly, we heard Ms. Sanborn read from the 2004 Newberry where we heard about a little girl who was hit (clouted) so many times she was almost deaf. Her dad had sold her to a mean man. I hope my parents won’t sell me for a tablecloth!

After working hard in studyhall I was exhausted and concluded that today was another long and busy day at school.
