Not Just Any Wednesday Yeah! It was finally Wednesday. I like Wednesdays because they are fun and short. We get to play Newsbowl and take our spelling pretest, but there was something new about our pretest today. Can you guess what it was? Well you will have to wait to find out! First, we cleaned our totes. Some people, like Ben, don’t like cleaning their totes because they are so messy and it takes forever. When we were done cleaning, we turned in our blogging journal and the seven facts and summary about “William Joyce Scrapbook.” We then took our spelling pretest, but today, there was a twist. If you missed five or less on the last three spelling pretests, then you took a more difficult pretest. It was really challenging! I don’t know how Drew only missed four! After we made our lists for the next week we turned them in. Next up was writing. We shared our autobiography chapters with a partner. My partner was Aaron. We used a checklist to help us determine if we included everything we needed. We also shared the pictures that we have selected to put in our autobiography. We both had some funny pictures! Then it was time to put everything away and line up for gymsic which is a mixture of gym and music that only happens on Wednesdays. Gymsic was a blast today because we got to do the Macarena. Ryan suggested that we do the dance where someone skips around the room and when they hear the triangle on the song, they have to point to someone and that person joins the end of the line. I and about two other kids didn’t get pointed at. We also did a song called “Drive Around Australia”. The point of the game was to act like you were driving a car and you had to stop when the singer said, “Stop!” and do whatever the singer said to do. For example, one was to hop, hop, and stop. Then it was, back to the classroom for art. We had to use pictures and magazine cut outs to make two collages about ourselves that will go in our autobiographies. Right after I finished, the Math Olympiad kids (which includes me) had to leave for GSP (Global Positioning System) group time. In GSP, we got a sheet where we used our GSP’s to find where the sheet was telling us to go. When we got there, there was a clue telling us where to go next. It was really confusing at the start, but then we got the hang of it, it was fun. When we were done, we met the rest of the class in the computer lab. We first had to do an area math sheet and once we finished that and Ms. Sanborn okayed it, we did “Larson’s Math on the computers”. I have almost finished one whole lesson in Larson’s Math. That’s a big thing! Next was lunch and I was starving! Too bad I had my same old cold lunch because some of the other lunches looked really delicious. Choice “A” was mini corn dogs, Choice “B” was chef salad, and Choice “C” was a turkey sub. Most of the kids around me either had mini corn dogs or the turkey sub. At recess, I played kickball with my friends. I think my team won, but we really didn’t keep score. Compared to yesterday, it was as warm out as an oven. I didn’t even need my sweatshirt. When recess was over, we came in and put our desks into groups of four. Then it was time for Newsbowl, my favorite activity besides art on Wednesdays! The questions weren’t as challenging as last week, but we still managed to get a couple of them wrong. Then we had to move our desks back to their regular spots and line up. We got signed out by Ms. Sanborn and were glad that today was over and it was almost Friday! That means it’s almost only a week away until we get to visit Russell Middle School. So even though today was short, it was still fun and probably my favorite day of the week. I know some kids will go home and practice their spelling words because of how badly they did on the difficult spelling pretest, but better luck next time. I had a blast in Newsbowl and hope my team won! That wraps up a typical, but fun Wednesday!
Not Your Typical Day Today was not our typical day. We had an assembly, although we were told of it weeks ago, many people forgot, so it was sort of a surprise. We also had a Word Masters test, and for the Math Olympiad people, a special presentation on how to use GPS, or global positioning system. At the beginning of the day, after everyone had made their lunch choice, we went to our seats, got out our assignment books, and turned in all our homework. We noticed that there was a pink “Time for Kids” sheet on our desk with two sides. Both had timelines, one on the amazing history of flight, the other on the gruesome Iraqi and US war. Most people got theirs done very swiftly, myself included. Next on our daily schedule was math. In sixth grade math, we learned about ratios, proportions, and rates. We also corrected a few Math Boxes, along with our intricate algebra sheet. Then Mrs. Wischow said, “I’m assigning you pages 290 to 293, due tomorrow.” We worked on those lackluster problems until it was time to go back to the classroom. When Drew, Alex and I got back to the room, everyone was in front of the cozy couch, and Madison was reading her superior 3rd quarter story. After she was done, the class and I bounced back to our seats, got out writing journals, and wrote a wearisome entry on blogging. Wow! It was time for music already! When we got there, Ms. Noble was waiting for us. First, we had to herd Ms. French’s class out of the room, and then sit down. Next, we needed to talk about doing a program called “Garage Band” where you can make your own song with thousands of different instrumental passages. After that, we talked about what type of exciting pajama party we were going to have after reaching 800 “music bucks”. “Music bucks” are multi-colored fake dollar bills that students can earn for being good in class. At 11:20, which is five minutes before music is usually over, Math Olympiad left to go learn about the GPS. First, the 4-H volunteer told us how to use the GPS system. Then we practiced, by going away from the point we digitally marked, then followed the direction arrows, which put us back to the place we called HQ. Then it was time for the REAL test. A team hid a small colored cogwheel, marked it on the GPS, and then traded systems with another team. Using the GPS system, we had to find the gear. We did! After GPS, we went back to the classroom, and took the Word Master analogy test. After that test, we suffered through the spelling test. Then, we edited sentence three in our green editing books. We had chicken nuggets, chef salad, or a hot dog for lunch. All the choices were delicious. After we wolfed down our lunch as quickly as a starved person coming to a feast, we zoomed out to recess. During science, we did an experiment. We took rubber bands, plucked them, and did the same with a paperclip and ruler. We did that so we could experience how something has to vibrate to make sound. At two o’clock the 2nd grade recital or musical was really neat, especially since Ms. Noble wrote it herself. They had been studying artists, and so that’s what the musical was about! You would have to be as unintelligent as a bug to not figure that out. Study hall was as boisterous as usual, and checking out was boring, so it was a pretty normal day, if you don’t count all the extremely bizarre and not so typical events happening today, like the GPS lesson, 2nd grade musical, and even the science experiments.
A Different Day Today was a different day for many reasons and in many subjects. To start the day off, the subject was math. The first part of math was checking pages 312 and 313. We all did very well. After we were done checking, the whole class worked together on a page about finding the area of a triangle. Do you know what the formula for finding the area of a triangle is? Well, it is the base * height * 1/2. Andrew thought that this page was very easy. I did, too. After that Ms. S assigned us a page to do by ourselves. Writing was next. Our assignment was to complete 3/4 of a page of free writing in our writing journals. Fortunately, I am already done with this assignment. I wrote about my weekend in Lincoln where I played in a baseball tournament. It was a good weekend. In gym class we had a sub. There was something different about her. Everybody saw that she only had one hand. She told us about her kids, then herself, and next we started to play Pinguard. This is a game where you guard bowling pins from getting knocked down by balls. When we walked back in the room, we took out our reading journals and wrote down five words and their definitions. We also had to write one sentence for each word. Those words go with the story we are going to read called The Scrapbook of William Joyce. We also made predictions about the story and listened to Ms. Sanborn read a poem about an artist. I can’t wait to read the story now to see if my predictions were right. Then we got out our Editing books and we had to correct the mistakes on the first sentence in our editing book. It is also about the story we are going to read. I got done in a jiffy, and I checked over it. Spelling came next. Ms. Sanborn assigned us a worksheet. I got done with it, but I did think that some of the questions were hard and tricky. We also studied our spelling words for the test tomorrow. "Lunchtime!" I told myself. The "A" choice was pepperoni pizza. The "B" choice was a hamburger. Almost everybody chose "A". That's what I chose and it was good. We were so cold when we came in from recess. What happened to the warm weather we had last week? Today was a little different, because we started science. We have been doing social studies for a long time. We started off with Lesson One, Sound and Light. I understood that really well. We read the lesson, took notes and then studied the notes with a buddy. During teacher read, we read some short stories and poems about sound and light. "My favorite book was The Listening Walk. That was a funny book because it had a bunch of sounds that Ms. S had to make while she read! The funniest was her trying to sound like a jackhammer. Barrrrrrr! After study hall and trying to catch up with all my homework so all I have to do tonight is this blog I realized that today was different for three reasons. One we started science. Two we were freezing out at recess instead of being hot and three, the PE sub looked a little different, but she still rocked because she taught us PE and let us play a cool game.
Freak-out and Fried-brained Friday “Oh, no! We get our midterms and have three tests today!” All of us were nervous wrecks and the thought of all of that weighed on our minds the whole day, but the school day had to go on! In math we first learned how to find the area of a rectangle. Did you know that it had a formula that was Area equals base times height? It does! After that great lesson we were assigned two pages. The first one was where we had to match names of a shape or a specific angle with it's definition, easy! The other page was a Math Box, where we had to do What's My Rule, Standard and Scientific Notation, dividing, angles, and equivalent fraction problems! In fifth grade! We got a link about area, but we didn't get that until 3:15. In writing we added our revisions to our autobiographies for Chapter 3 and 4. We had already made the changes on our rough drafts, today we just made the changes on our Palms. Today we also had to sync our Palm and print out our first few chapters of our autobiographies. I can’t wait to share them, I have some really funny stories. Music time! In music we either sing or we do Garage band, but this time was different! This time we decorated for the 2nd grade musical, “Colors”. Some of us made trees and some of us made other kind of objects that artists would use. I bet you can guess what their musical was about. Artists like Van Gough, Matisee, Degas, and more. Ms. Sanborn is going to love it! The reading test was next. The test was over the story “Shakespeare and The Globe”. I thought the story was a good because it had so much information about William Shakespeare and theatre back then that I didn’t know. I did think the test was kind of hard. Next we had to take the Word masters vocabulary test. I thought that test was really easy, but someone thought it was hard! After the test, we had to take our spelling test three times on Spell It, a program on the Palm. I was good at that. I think I will do well on Tuesday for the real thing. Groowwwlll! That was the sound our stomachs were making by the time it was lunch. Some of us thought lunch was really good, but some people thought it was really bland. Then out to recess we went, but some students had to come in and finish printing out their autobiographies, lucky for them it was cold and windy outside. After recess we read silently. The book I'm reading is called Made You Look. I really like it. Then it was time to take our Social Studies test about the Revolutionary war. It had questions about some of the people, events, and the Declaration of Independence. I’m glad I studied hard. I thought it was much harder than the reading test. The last part where we had to write out the answers was the hardest. In study hall I worked on art like most people. We are finishing our Pop art. I’m coloring my four Bubble gum sheets four different ways, like Andy Warhol did. Now it was the end of the day. All the tests were over, midterms were passed out, and we were all brain dead, we finally got to go home for the weekend! Yeah!!
Visitor and Game Day Today, we played Who Wants To Be a Winner, had visitors from Texas, and made sailboats. It was all so much fun. First thing we did was our AM assignment. We made up word searches based on words and names from the Revolutionary War. We had to use ten or more words. The words were taken from our Revolutionary War word bank we used for Bingo. Next, it was Math time. First we checked work we had already done. Next we did plotting pages. We plotted sailboats then did a Math Box that was sort of hard. After we talked about putting together of final drafts of our autobiographies we had a visit from two people from Texas. They came because they were interested in how we use our Palms and their applications or programs. They observed us or asked questions while we were retyping our 3rd and 4th Chapters of our autobiographies which included our revisions. Then we had gym. In gym we ran ten laps. Afterwards we played baseball. Ryan and thought that playing baseball was fun. I also liked it. In reading we went over our vocabulary definitions and then we related the vocabulary words to the story Shakespeare and the Globe. A little later Mrs. Anderson our librarian came in. She talked about realistic fiction and poetry books and the genre. Furthermore, she presented a lot of books that were realistic fiction and poetry. We ended the morning with spelling. In spelling we did Spell It. We first typed our spelling words into the program on our Palms and then had to define them. This wasn't too bad. Next we had lunch. The A choice was a soft taco. We were then lucky to go out for recess since we were in what looked like a tornado watch. After that we had social studies. We played “Who Wants to be a Winner.” Dylan won the fast finger game, so he went to the “hot seat.” Unfortunately, he didn't get very far. Better luck next time. We concluded the day with study hall and then went home. Today was an o.k. day even if we the weather was bad and under a tornado watch.
Wonderful Wednesday Today was a wonderful day because it was a short day and because we had Newsbowl at the end of the day! The day started out with time to clean out our desks. This was an ambitious task for some of us. When everyone was done cleaning their tote trays and desks, we had to do a spelling pretest. Most people did amazingly well. Before we went to gymsic, we played the Word Master card game. Word Masters are challenging words that you have to know the definition for for an analogy test. You must know these words with precision to get a good score on the analogy test. At gymsic we square danced with our partners. Do-si-do! My partner was Rachel. All of that dancing made us fatigued, but we were happy to start art. Ms. Sanborn gave us explicit instructions on how to do Pop art. We looked at some pictures by Andy Warhol. He was a great Pop artist. Right in the middle of art, some of us had to leave for Math Olympiad. In Math Olympiad we do challenging questions that are graded, recorded, and sent to the National Math Olympiad Center. I did mediocre by only getting eight out of twenty correct. After Math Olympiad, we went to the computer lab to do some more math. We worked on the Larson's Math program. I finished the unit on algebra and my friend Dylan finished the unit on multiplying fractions. Right when we got back from the computer lab it was time for lunch. Since I chose A choice, I got macaroni and cheese. I thought it tasted very bland today, but I still ate it! During recess a bunch of us played basketball. I got a lot of rebounds. Once the game was getting unfair, some other kids and I left to swing on the swings until recess was over. Last, but not least, it was everybody’s favorite part of the day. Newsbowl! Newsbowl is a game where you answer questions on different subjects like sports, news, and arts and entertainment. Our class divided up into six teams of four. If we dawdled around we would have to do an assignment in our social studies book instead. Gratefully, no one dawdled. Now it was time for packing up. We packed up and Ms. Sanborn signed us out. We all had had a wonderful Wednesday! Be sure to read the future Blogs to see what other exciting things are happening at Willowdale Elementary.
Boring Tuesday or Not? Today must have seemed like a boring day because it was the day after most people went to an exciting baseball game! Tuesday really never seems very exciting anyway because nothing exciting ever seems to happen on Tuesdays. Oh my gosh today we had a morning assignment that had twenty questions on it! I only got to number ten when Ms. S told us to trade our math journals. First thing we did in math was check a page that wasn’t graded. (AWWW man I wish we did because I got 100% on it!) After that we did a page together where you first figured out what the plot numbers were then you had to plot and draw the three boats that looked like paper boats. If you got finished with that strange page then you got to do the place value puzzle page. I finished it in a zip! Then if you got that finished then you got to work on the new math box! I got finished with the first part, but that was all. Next in our same old Tuesday was writing. Today we proofread and revised our Chapter Six of our autobiographies with a friend. (AGAIN!) We did that for what felt like the whole time! I got seven revisions done. Subject number three: Music! Today in music we continued planning for our good behavior party. We put more fun ideas like Willy Wonka, and I added the idea of game day. After putting more ideas on the list we started voting. Lastly, we had some music class. When we got back from music Ms. S said loudly,”Take out your green books because we are reading a new story!” The story we that we read was called, “William and the Globe.” We read in groups of three. After we finished the short story about William Shakespeare we had to define words the vocabulary words, then do a summary. By that time it was 12:25, which meant time for the Golden Sower Potluck! HA HA I tricked you! The whole day wasn’t boring! Potlucks never are! I was one of the few people that read all ten Golden Sower nominees and I got to go. First we ate lots of yummy foods then we started the trivia questions. I won a hackey sack, but I can’t do it well yet. After the only fun part of the day was over it was time for social studies. For social studies Ms. S gave us a Revolutionary War test study guide so we knew what to study for the test on Friday. All we did in that long time was STUDY. Geez that’s a lot of studying! After that Ms. S told us to meet her on the floor, but she got to sit on the warm, cozy couch. The book she is reading is called Knots in My Yo-Yo string. It’s an autobiography by Jerry Spinelli. After our teacher read it was time for the last part of the day, study hall, but all of the potluck people had to take their spelling test since they were gone during the usual test time! After those twenty-five minutes Ms. S told us to check off and circle. We all knew what that meant finally time to go home after another Tuesday.
Baseball, Baseball, and More Baseball! Today most of us got to go to an Omaha Royal’s baseball game! I'm guessing that you don't know what it is for, well sorry you will have to wait to find out why! Just like every Monday we start our day by writing our goals for the week, write the title and author of the book we are reading for the week all in our assignment book. We are supposed to be able to work to achieve the goals and if we already achieved them once we shouldn't pick them again. It was 9:00 a.m. and normally it was time for math, but we didn't have math right away! We got in our groups of six and shared our Willow Webcast sheets. If you are wondering what Willow Webcast is, it is almost like a radio show, but we don't play songs by famous people, well if you count us as famous people, I guess we do play famous people's music because we make the music ourselves on the computer. Anyways, Willow Webcast is a radio show where we use our own created music, but it is mostly us sharing the new information we learned in social studies or science. This month our show is about the Revolutionary War. There will be poems, jokes, interviews with George Washington, and more. It was fun to listen to what everyone wrote and how they shared them. After every group performed their radio show, we did a page of plotting for math with the class. The people who wrote our math journals did not tell us where to put the dots to make a turtle look like theirs so we had to figure it out. A lot of people thought it was easy and I agree with them, but that is only our opinion. When we were finished plotting half of the turtle Ms. Sanborn assigned us to make the other side of it symmetrical. Ms. Sanborn also assigned us to do a Math Box. Next would have been writing, but most of the 5th graders went to the Royals baseball game! Oh yeah, you have been waiting for me to tell you why we went to the baseball game. We went because we were all in Safety Patrol. It was a big thank you from everyone for doing it the whole year. Hot or cold weather! Before and after school! Now let's talk about the baseball game. It was in the 4th inning when one of the Royal’s players finally hit a homerun. That got the Royals fired up, but that was the only homerun of the game. All the other runs were from hitting people home that were on bases. At the end of the game the score was 4-2 Royals won, YEAH! We had good weather and there sure were a lot of schools there. There were older and younger kids there too. The others that didn't go because they didn’t sign up for Safety Patrol at the beginning of the year played a Palm game called Solar Wars. They also got music and P.E.. (Most of the 5th graders that went to the baseball game thought that wasn't fair). Before lunch they went to the computer lab to do activities on different web sites, then all sixteen of them ate lunch in the almost empty, pretty quiet cafeteria. After recess they came in and did a colorful art project. Luckys. When we got back from the game all the other people that didn't get to go were finishing their art. Ms. Sanborn told the people who didn't get to go from the other two classrooms to go back to their classrooms, but if you were in her class to go to your seats and get your Palm out. We had to put it by our charger and sync them. Then we had to go sit in front of the couch for teacher read. When Ms. Sanborn was done reading Knots in the Yo Yo String, we had study hall. (If you read Dylan's Blog Friday, April 15th you would know what study hall was.) That ended our good, fun baseball filled day!
New School Orientation! My day had a lot of excitement to it. Sometimes I compare school to home and at home I play outside, watch TV, or play video games, but sometimes school can be more fun. You learn new activities, games, and you get to be with your friends. School is sometimes really cool, like today! The way we usually start our day is with a morning assignment sheet, but today we studied for a Word master words test. Word Master words are challenging words that you learn to help you with your writing. They are pretty fun. At nine o-clock a.m., we would usually have math, but today we didn't have math because we had Russell Orientation. One of the ambassadors said, "Are you ready for middle school?" Orientation is when your future middle school counselor, principal, and some students come to your elementary school to you about the school. It was an informative session and the counselors really did a good job informing us about what to expect next year in middle school. The next subject of the day was writing. We had to finish Chapter 6 of our autobiography. Chapter 6 is about our future plans in our life. After we finished Chapter 6, we had to draw a picture about it. In music we sang the song "Boogie Woogie". It was a fun song and we really got into it. We had to play the notes in the song with boom whackers. A Boom whacker is a cylinder that has notes on them and the longer book whacker is, the higher the note. It's a fun way to learn to read music. We read a thin book that tested our reading level. The name of my book was "Quiet Backstage". We had to write a summary about the book. My book was pretty boring, but I made it through it. The next subject of the day was spelling. Our job was to get 100% on Spell It. Spell It is a Palm application where you practice your spelling words by writing in clues to help you. I got 100% pretty easily today! It's like writing definitions, but a lot more fun. We also had to edit number 5, which was the section of the book, which was called "William Shakespeare and the Globe". At 12:55 p.m. we went to lunch. I had cold lunch again today. One of the best parts about our lunch break is recess. At recess we played 7 on 7 basketball. Some kids walked around and talked, some kids played on the tire swings, played tetherball, or four hole basketball. It was fun and the time went by pretty fast. At 1:25 p.m. it was time to go back into the school and read silently. Social Studies was the first subject after recess and lunch. We did a Willow Cast sheet. Willow Casting is when you go on the radio for the school website. We told about things we were learning from the Revolutionary War. We also played tug of war about the Revolutionary War. We had the “colonists” on one side and the “British” on the other side. The colonists were clearly outnumbered and the “French” had to come in and help them. Friday, April 15th there was nothing too much out of the ordinary, but every day does bring something new. The most fun part of the day was being with my friends. I also enjoyed the Russell Orientation because it was exciting to learn about some of the activities I have to look forward to in my future at Russell Middle School.
Today everybody was excited because it was Wednesday and we got to play Newsbowl and we were getting let out early! First we had spelling. We took a pretest that was pretty easy. I am proud of my grade. Next on our agenda we took the Listening test. We watched a women read a passage and answered three questions from a page in our booklets. There were three questions for each passage. Finally it was time to take a break from class and go to gymsic. Today we square danced with our partners and groups from last week. I noticed that some of the dances were familiar to the fifth graders. Once we arrived back in the classroom it was time to retake the "Events of The Revolutionary War" quiz. Only a few kids aced it in our class the first time we took it. I was not one of them. Finally it was everybody's favorite part of the day. Art! Today we put together our mobiles. We used the shapes that we had cut out of paper on which we drew the shapes, punched a hole in them, and tied a string through from last week. We then took straws and balanced at least two shapes hanging from their strings to make a balanced mobile. The next thing the super students did was go to the computer lab and play a program called Larson’s Intermediate Math. It is a program that helps kids understand their math concepts by showing them a method then letting them try it for themselves. If you beat all the levels you get a certificate as a reward and reminder of your skills. In editing we did sentence three on our page and we found a total of nine mistakes in the sentence. For example they forgot a period at the end of the sentence. That one was an easy target to correct. Lunch was pretty normal since we were pretty much all there. In Newsbowl we had a pretty great game and I think my team has a huge chance of winning. By the end of the game we had a ton of points! We had at least 160 points and if we get any of the bonus questions we will have to make a bank to keep them in! I hope we win so I will get a piece of candy from Ms. Sanborn's candy drawer. Sadly Ms. Sanborn had to let all of us super students go so we will actually have time to do our homework and have no lates. This was certainly a day for us Willowdale students to remember in the many weeks to come!
Another Concert! Today we had a test and went to a concert, again. So, in the morning we had to study for a Social Studies test on our Palms. We also had to get into test mode because we were taking the Millard Math test at nine o'clock. Soon it turned nine o'clock and we had to start the test. Before that though we had to listen to the teacher state the directions. After she finished with the informational, yet boring directions we got to start the test. Some kids got it finished earlier because it was easy for them, but some kids found it hard like me, but it's okay. Well it only took an hour, but it was great because we missed a tiring hour of math and I hope we miss math again sometime. After the test we got to do writing, well actually it was a must. We worked on Chapter four and five in our autobiography. In Chapter four we’re at the stage where we edit and revise. It is due Thursday, same as Chapter five. In Chapter five we are working on typing it and getting it synced. Soon we had to finish up writing because it was time for music. In music today we went over a sheet we worked on last Friday. It was a bit boring going over it because we finished it last Friday so there was nothing really good about it. It was good for one person because he wasn't able to finish it last Friday because he got sick. When we only had a few minutes left we discussed the party we're going to have. We reached over 800 bucks. We earn up to 50 bucks every time we go to music class for being good students and we earned over 800 bucks which was the amount we needed to reach to get the party. So we discussed it and we found out that we are just going to bring snacks and have a pajama party or something. Afterwards it was time for reading. In reading we worked in our book groups. Today was the last time we were going to meet in our book groups. We all had Revolutionary War type books because we are learning about the Revolutionary War in Social Studies. We also had to make a poster in the groups about are book like the summary and the characters. It was fun and it made the time go by quicker. After that was editing. We were editing sentences from a story about Shakespeare that has a title that has slipped my mind at the moment. Meanwhile after editing there was only about ten minutes left until lunch so we just studied on our Palms. On our Palms, Ms. Sanborn beamed us our Word masters Quizzler. Finally it was time for lunch and recess. For lunch most kids got Chicken Nuggets, but some kids in my class had cold lunch or hot dogs, which is exactly what I got. We all had a great lunch. At recess we were all inside because it was raining. As usual some of us acted like kindergarteners, but some of us acted like mature adults, just kidding but I wasn't kidding about the kindergarten part. Afterwards it was time for Silent Reading. Most of the kids looked like they were actually interested in their books. Some kids, well actually most kids left the class at one thirty because they were participating in the concert. The concert started at two o'clock so when silent reading was over so the kids that weren't participating in the concert just had time to work. It was great that we had extra time to work because we didn't have much time at study hall. Next it was time for another concert! We had one on Monday too. I was glad because we didn't have Social Studies again! During the concert the whole school listened to the fourth and fifth grade orchestra, the choir, and the fifth grade school band. They were all great, but in my opinion I think the choir was best. Right after that we had to skip Social Studies and Teacher Read because we had to go straight into Study Hall. We all had only a bit of homework except for me because I was Roving Reporter, which bites. Eventually we had to cut study hall short because Ms. Sanborn didn't want to miss teacher read so we just had to do it. My teacher is reading us an autobiography about Jerry Spinelli. It's a good book. Well in my opinion I enjoyed the day. I hope you enjoyed the Blog.
We went to an assembly this afternoon, but let me tell you about the rest of the day first. In the morning starting at 9:00 AM we took a test. It was suppose to be math time, but we did a reading test instead. We read passages then answered 50 questions. "It was kind of hard." said Jessica. After the test we could do anything that was quiet. Later we did our autobiography chapters. We are working on Chapter 4, but if we finished early we could have started Chapter 5. We are working on our autobiographies and have our 1st, 2nd, 3rd chapters done. Next it was PE. We played the game “Steal the balls.” It was very fun. We were on two different teams and we tried to steal the other balls from the opposite side. Next we had reading. We did book groups where we shared our jobs. I am reading Sarah Bishop. I was Word Finder. Afterwards we read and did TFK sheets. Time went fast as lightning next it was editing and Word Masters. We first did editing. We had to edit sentence #1. In Word Masters we went over all the definitions of our words. We have words like bland, gouge, and torrent. They are really hard. Then it was lunch. We had pancakes, French toast, or an American wrap. Then we went to an assembly where the Mini Choir sang. It was fun. They wore white shirts and black pants. Their singing was very good. They were kids from all the elementary schools in Millard. Two were from Willowdale! When we got back to the classroom it was Units. We took notes on the Declaration of Independence. Then it was work time. Most of us were talking, but some of us were working and getting a lot done. When the bell rang we packed up and went home. I think that it rained and rained by the time everyone got to their houses.
Strikes on Friday Yes! Today was finally Friday and all the 5th graders got to go bowling and watch Robotics’ presentations. After everyone checked in, we took a multiplication test on our Palms. I thought the test was difficult because I had to look for a certain number instead of writing it out. Also in math, the class was assigned page 286 which focused on percents and fractions. Our other assignment, page 287, was a Math Box about angles, multiplication, and drawing a parallelogram. After math, our class went out to the hall to watch the Robotics presentations given by Brittney, Reanna, Katie F., Jessica, Erin, Andrew, Ben, Tyler, and Farris. The girls' challenge was to build a robot out of Legos and a motor that would go around a maze without touching the sides. The boys' challenge was to build a robot that would go across a piece of cardboard on the ground and then fling a golf ball into a box, but they couldn’t touch the robot. The exciting part was that each group built and programmed the robot by themselves. In writing, we spruced up our individual autobiography by adding adjectives and similes. Additionally on our autobiography, we worked on Chapter Four that consists of describing our friends and family. Afterwards, we went to music. During music, we completed a worksheet about music phrases like "solo voice" and "chorus". We all finished with precision as the fabulous Ms. Noble basically gave us the answers. Then we watched a recording of one of James Taylor's concerts. Most of us were bummed because the song You've Got A Friend, which is a fun song to sing to was not on there. Upon reentering our classroom, we grabbed our book group supplies and met in our groups. First, each of us had to share a discussion point from our white packet. Secondly, the discussion director shared his/her job sheet. Thirdly, the word finder shared his/her job sheet. This continued until everyone in the group had shared his/her job sheet. Finally, finally, finally, it was time to go bowling!! Upon arriving at Western Bowl, the manager gave us explicit directions as where the bathrooms were and about not running around. At 1:15 p.m., we were all so excited because we got to Cosmic Bowl which is bowling in the dark with disco lights spinning around!! Probably our favorite part of bowling was when a screen came down and played music videos or showed “us” on the screen!! I think the highest score was 129 bowled by Katlyn in Mrs. French's class. Several people had stickers on their t-shirts, which meant that they bowled a spare, or a strike. Another favorite part was being allowed to buy lunch there, as it's always fun to eat out! On the bus ride back to school, there was a deluge of talking and excitement in the air. On the way back to class, there was not time to dawdle, as we had to take a quiz about the Revolutionary War. When we finished the quiz, we had to read a packet of information about the Declaration of Independence. 3:29 p.m., 59 seconds, and bbrrnngg! The bell sounded which meant that the weekend was finally here! Even after an exciting Friday of going bowling and watching the Robotics presentations, we still had the weekend to look forward to.
Oh No the Math Test! My day started out nicely. It was a nice day outside and before school a lot of the kids were playing basketball, so I joined them. It was a good start to a good day. Some important things that happened today were that we had a math test, we had a speaker that gave us more information on space, and we found out who is on each bowling team for tomorrow’s field trip. We started our day as usual. For our morning assignment, we used our Quizzler to study for our Social Studies quiz, which is tomorrow. We were preparing for our quiz over events that happened during the Revolutionary War. There are 20 dates and events that we have to memorize. Studying this was pretty hard at first. I was scared that I wouldn’t get a good grade because there were so many dates to memorize. I’m looking forward to this quiz about as much as I look forward to going to the dentist. After Quizzler practice, we had math. Ms. Sanborn told us, “Everybody get into test mode and put two folders up.” Today’s test covered fractions, decimals and percents. Most of the test was on fractions. I was nervous and could feel my stomach turn like a pioneer churning butter. I studied a lot for the test, so it didn’t seem that hard. After the test, we were assigned page 296 in our math journal. It was a math box that reviewed plotting points on a graph, symmetry, area of a rectangle, and volume of a rectangular prism. Writing followed math. We had to edit, proofread, and revise the three chapters of our autobiography. We’ve been working on our autobiographies for about a week. It seems like the kids are putting a lot of effort into this assignment. The stories I’ve heard are pretty good. Next we went into the gym. We practiced bowling for our field trip tomorrow. The whole 5th grade is going to the bowling alley called Western Bowl. We will be gone for a couple of hours. We found out who would be on our teams. I’m excited to go! After gym, we had book group meetings. Ms. Sanborn drew sticks to see who got to use the couch for their group meeting. Today, my group got to meet on the couch. Everybody else had to find a space on the floor to meet and read. Each group is assigned a book to read out loud as a group, and then we discuss it amongst themselves. We went to lunch early because we were going to have a speaker at our usual lunch time. We still got to have recess. It was extremely nice weather, so we liked playing outside. After recess we went straight to Ms. Sanborn’s old classroom. There was a speaker there. He was there to teach us more about space. He explained that we live in the Milky Way Galaxy, and that it is a spiral galaxy. After awhile, we went outside and he handed out special glasses. These glasses allowed us to look directly at the sun without the harmful rays damaging our eyes. Next we lined up to look at sunspots through a powerful telescope. The whole presentation was awesome! Following the space presentation, we went back into the school and had time for teacher read. Ms. Sanborn read from Jerry Spinelli’s Knots in my Yo-Yo String. This is an autobiography about Jerry as he was growing up. After she read for a couple chapters Ms. Sanborn reminded us to behave well on the bowling trip. We also were reminded to bring lunch or have money to buy lunch at the bowling alley. We ended the day with a short study hall. Overall, it was a really good day. The math test went well, the speaker was awesome, and I predict that bowling will be packed with fun!
Potluck Party "Yes! It's the No Late Slip Potluck!" Rachel said extremely excited. Today was awesome because we had the potluck, art, Newsbowl, and we got out at 2:00! This morning, we looked at Poor Richard's Almanac on our Palms. We also discussed what our favorite saying was. Poor Richard's Almanac is filled with clever sayings by Ben Franklin. Continuing our journeys on our Palms, we looked at Just Jokes! on eReader like, Why don't elephants pick their noses? Because they don't know where to put a 30 pound booger! Also this morning, Ms. Sanborn passed out our math review sheets we did yesterday. She felt most of us weren’t ready for our Unit 8 test. Instead, we took a pretest Ms. Sanborn made herself. Afterward we worked on something quietly while waiting for gymsic, like defining the next five words in Word Masters. Gymsic was next! We square danced. While Mrs. Lindeman picked our groups, everyone was chattering away! Right when Mrs. Lindeman said we could leave, everyone bolted for the door. Art came immediately after gymsic. We heard about Alexander Calder. The book said that he created the mobile (like the ones that hang over baby's cribs). We looked on the internet and saw about five or six mobile pictures that he made. They were awesome! Then we picked themes on what we wanted our mobiles to be. Some people are doing space, sports, team logos and much more. Before the Potluck we went to the computer lab to practice fractions on Larsons. Then came Yummy time! The moment we've all been waiting for! The 5th Grade Monthly No Late Slip Potluck! There was pizza, pop, grapes, chips and a lot more! Once I was done eating, I went outside to play at recess. We came inside and Ms. Sanborn told us to get into groups of four for this weeks’ Newsbowl game. The topic of the week was about the death of Pope John Paul the second, like what his real name was. Did you know his name was Karol? We all had fun during Newsbowl. Lastly, we got our planner, homework, and papers together. The best thing of the day was the Potluck, but Newsbowl, and art made it all worth coming to school. I'm really looking forward to tomorrow!
Tic –Tock Tuesday This Tuesday went tic-tock around the clock. That means it went furiously fast because we were so busy! Tuesday started out with a morning assignment on famous cities and where they were located. It was surprisingly hard because some of them were new to me. From the clues you had to know where Boston was located or where Philadelphia was located. Math was next on our list of things to do. In math we checked links I got some good scores, 100% and 86%. That’s really good. Next we checked study guides. I did average on that because it was hard, but not that hard! Later on we looked over our links and some people had questions about them. We also did a link which most of us finished. I was one of them. Studying with a buddy was next, I studied with Ryan, and we barely got anything studied because there was not much time left which really stinks like a person who hasn’t showered! Next, was writing. We wrote about what to do during Family Night tonight, We wrote things like the activities were doing or going to do like the math test and social studies quiz on Friday. W also wrote down things like if were going to share our Palms. Syncing our Palms was next. We had to sync our autobiographies. They are about our birth and our life now. Oh yes, music was next! You know what that means, well maybe you don't. I'll tell you. It means Garage Band! My music I’m making is like punk rock mixed with rap. I love Garage Band so much I could marry it, well that’s impossible so I won't Later on was reading. First we checked our TFKs. Fine. I had to check Dylan's, I don't know who checked mine, but I did well! We also read in our reading groups and shared our job sheets like Vocabulary person, Discussion Director, and more. Next we did an eight-question sheet about Ben Franklin. It was easy in my opinion. Spelling was next. We had our spelling test today. I did fantastic, I hope. We also defined word master words 6-10. I finished them in a jiffy! YUMMMMMMMMM! Chicken nuggets are awesome! We ran out to go to recess and I played basketball with my friends. Social studies oh man, actually, no oh man! Social studies was the bomb today! First, we checked our events sheet. It was on dates and what happened on that certain date. Now for a movie! Woohooo! It was about the beginning and ending of the Revolutionary War. It was funny also because King George III had huge lips. “Bingo!” Some kids yelled, but one of them was not me. We got to play a couple of rounds of Revolutionary War Bingo! The second to last thing to do was teacher read. We are reading Knots in My Yo-yo String by Jerry Spinelli. It is a good book so far. At last it was study hall. I had to finish my sheet for reading groups and yes I did finish! Line up time. Ms. Sanborn signed us out and we walked politely out the gigantic door and either went home or choir. Tic-tock went the clock on this hot, busy, but not sunny Tuesday!
Marvelous Monday Today went by so fast! I think that it was because of our sub, Ms Haller, who was in our room for two hours or so. Also, I think in my opinion, that writing Chapter three, which I’ll tell you about in writing was fun, and bowling during gym was fun too. Today from 8:40 to about 10:50, it was different because we had a sub. She was kind, caring and sweet. She has to do a 15-page essay for a college class. It’s about using Palms, so she asked us if we would write about using the Palm. So about 13 of us did it, so we got 13 blocks. Blocks go into a container and when we are good and don't talk or do something nice, we get blocks. Once we reach a certain point, we get a prize. For our am assignment today, we did a sheet where you had to add or subtract fractions and then the answers were on the opposite side and you drew a line to the right answer. Math rolled around fast. We switched math journals and checked a math box that was graded. Next, Miss Haller handed out a study guide over Unit 8, adding, subtracting, dividing, and multiplying fractions. Yeah! My favorite subject finally has arrived! We have started an autobiography. On Friday we started Chapter 2 about when we were 0-5 years old. So four people Cydney, Nicole, Willie, and Laura read theirs aloud for examples. Today we started Chapter three about when were six until now. I think this project is fun! Gym! We ran two laps outside in the parking lot. Next, when we were done, breathless, we lined up and Mrs. Lindeman, the gym teacher numbered us off for bowling teams. I was a five along with Dylan and Nicole. I bowled pretty bad. At least I got three spares! Can't wait to go bowling on Friday at Western Bowl! Reading was of course after gym. We are doing book groups right now. My book is Sarah Bishop. It is about a girl who loses her dad and brother and now she is in jail. The war has affected her very much. We shared our job sheets and read together. "Maggie, you get to pick for Time for Kids reading partners today," Ms. Sanborn said. "Ok" Maggie exclaimed as she thought it through. "one 'o' clock blue!" Maggie shouted so everyone could hear her. I was with Kyle. We read the TFK, and then did the sheet by ourselves. Ms. Sanborn then gave us a spelling sheet and a word master sheet. We also had to write our spelling words twice. We defined word master words 1-5. I finished everything. I was quick! Today my stomach didn't growl!(must have been the time change thingy) Once we went to lunch, no other classes came for a while. The yummy lunch choices were A: Cheese Pizza B: Hot Dog C: American Wrap. Yum! I had a hot dog. During recess, the sun was shining as yellow as butter. It was very warm and beautiful at recess today. I tumbled with my friend. "Get your books and line up, we are going to the library!" Ms. Sanborn said. Once we got there, everyone scattered everywhere reading or looking for a great book to read. Next, we went to glance at the book fair in the lobby. There were some really great books and highlighters that smell like bubblegum, lemon and mint. Mmmm! By the time we came back, there was a string that hung across the front of the room. It was the Revolutionary War “Time Line”. We all picked a battle and then wrote about it and drew a picture of it on an index card. Then today we hung them up from in order of when they happened. The one that was first, all the middle ones, and the one that was last. But before that, we shared our battle cards out loud. Teacher Read! We are reading Knots in My Yo-Yo String. It is an autobiography about the author, Jerry Spinelli. Today we read when he lived on his street, George Street. During study hall, everyone was working on something different. Like the study guide, the spelling sheet, definitions 1-5, and their Chapter 3. Today was a great day. I can sum it up in 3 words. Fun/different: because of Ms. Haller, Hot: because of the 80 degree weather and Hard: because of the study guide.
April Fools! Today was a different day because we got a new teacher, a bear for a pet, and we had rocks for lunch. April Fools! The truth is, we didn’t get a new teacher, we don’t have a classroom pet, and we didn’t have rocks for lunch. First, we had math, but we didn’t do any pages, because Drew and Alex taught us three math Palm games. They were Summing, Hexplode, and Simplify. In Summing you had to find two or more numbers that add up to the number on the list. Hexplode, you had to click on a hexagon and try to get all the hexagons your color. That game is really hard. Lastly, it was Simplify, it is a game where they give you a fraction and you have to make the simpliest fraction it can be. After math, we had writing. For writing, we wrote our second chapter in our life story or autobiographies. We are writing about all the years of our life. Dylan, Rachel, and Maggie read their first chapters aloud. They did great! Later, we had music. We sang one song called Ready to Go with Ms. French's class. After they left we sang a few more songs, and we ended up winning our party for our bucks. "Get your book group books and job sheets and meet with your group," yelled Ms. Sanborn. My book is called Johnny Tremain. Ben, Dylan, Andrew, and I are all in the same group. After we shared our job sheets then we read. "Edit sentence five, then turn them in," exclaimed Ms. Sanborn. It is our last day to edit. If we don’t miss any on our editing, we get to rip up our next editing sheet and skip it. For spelling, we just had to take a spelling test on Spell It on our Palm. Lunch time! You could hear everyone's tummy growling because we were so hungry. We went to lunch 30 minutes early because we had a Space Speaker at one o’clock. At recess, we played basketball with the fourth graders and of course we won! Right when we got inside, we went straight to the empty room. The speaker was waiting for us. He was teaching us how to play a game how to find what planet the probe was on. It was really hard. Dylan Andrew, Willie, and Drew figured it out. For social studies, we took a quiz over the famous people in the Revolutionary War. After the quiz, we made an index card over a battle that happened. Mine was the Battle of Yorktown. Next, we had teacher read. We are reading The Knots in My Yo-Yo String. It is an autobiography about Jerry Spinelli. Now it is about when he was younger. It is very good. For study hall, we got cupcakes and sang to Farris. Today was his 11th birthday. Rachel also brought her dog in because it was her half birthday. Wow! What a study hall! "Put your chairs up and line up!" said Ms. Sanborn. We rushed out the door not even knowing it was a Friday.
A Blast from the Past Everyone was gazing at their paper having Class Olympic flashbacks. Today for our morning assignment we had to do a Revolutionary War women's soldier sheet and color an Olympic dove, Olympic medal, and Olympic torch. They were just like the sheets we did at the beginning of the year for our Class Olympics. Most of the class completed the blue sheet, but not the Olympic coloring. BOOM! Math hit us like a heat-seeking missile hitting a pile of lava. Today was weird because instead of switching with someone else to correct Math Journals we corrected our own. But we checked someone else’s link. The link was really hard so a lot of groans came from the class after seeing their grades and also a couple of yeses, one from me because I got 100% on the math pages, and the link! The next page had a couple of REALLY hard problems that we could have received two tickets or a piece of candy for, but since we did them later we couldn't receive the tickets and candy. The next page's top part I whizzed through, but the bottom part we all got stuck on, including Ms. Sanborn. We eventually got to do the problem later. Next the whole class got out their writing journals and turned to their 4th quarter goals page, where we copied our goals from there onto our Olympic cut-outs. If we weren’t done we had time to finish coloring them, cutting them out, and then we turned them into the Writing Tray. Whew! This next assignment was really hefty, because we had to type up our first draft of chapter one of the autobiography by tomorrow. We all lined up for gym and were pretty happy because we knew were practicing bowling for our bowling trip next Friday! We all ran two laps for gym outside and got on the two yellow lines to pick teams for bowling practice, I was with two girls so I got to go first. In reading we were to share our five predictions and five I wonders with our book group. After that the groups started to read aloud to each other it was time to edit in our editing books. Also for spelling we did the new week's words in Spell It, an application in our Palms. We all got some done, but then it was the time everyone waits for, LUNCH TIME!!!! Today the A choice was a soft taco with toppings, it was good. The B choice was Chef's salad. Whoo. Social Studies was next and we did what we thought was a minimal assignment, just read three pages (which we read together) and then fill out our Revolutionary war BINGO board sheets, double sided. Then right before our eyes we had a whole new assignment that turned into a battle research project! We all, after twenty minutes in the computer lab got out our assignment notebooks and raced down to the floor for a good spot at teacher read. Today we read about the sports that Jerry Spinelli liked and the only championship Jerry ever won. We all then filled out our assignment notebooks and dove into study hall. After study hall everyone left with a homework filled backpack. Today was different because we checked our own math journals, had the same cut-outs as the beginning of the year, and we worked with a partner in Social Studies researching the battles of the Revolutionary War in the computer lab.
Wet Wednesday Oh man! Today was the worst Wednesday ever! We couldn't go outside because it was so wet. Oh well, what are you going to do? Let me tell you about the rest of our day. Today started out as everyone sat down in their seats and began to clean their desks. After everyone's desk was nice and tidy, Ms. Sanborn told us to take a piece of construction paper, draw an umbrella, cut it out and then decorate it with our name. We worked until 9:00 a.m. and then lined up to go Jump Rope for Heart. When we got into the gym, we saw that it was crowded with the students from Mrs. French's class. We all found our friends and sat down to listen to what Mrs. Lindeman had to say. "After you jump rope by yourself for about a half an hour, your first grade buddies will come in and join you. Your buddies know how to use the short jump ropes, but they don't know how to use the long ones, so please try to teach them how," she said. So we started jump roping. Connor, Evan, and I started to use the long jump ropes first. We played a game called Score where someone has to get the highest score. I came in first with forty. Evan came in second with twenty-five and Connor came in last with fifteen. After score, we played a game called School where each person takes turns running into the swinging jump rope and to get to a new grade. I came in first, Evan came in second, and Connor came in third again. When our buddies came into the gym, we taught them how to use the long jump rope and guess what? They mastered it. Everyone was happy for their buddy and their buddy was happy for themselves. After an hour and a half, we returned to the classroom. When we got there, we went back to the gym to practice a tornado drill then came back to take a spelling pretest. I hope everyone got 100%. After the pretest, we edited sentence #3 on Hattie's Birthday Box page in our editing books. Our goal is to have everybody get 100% so we can rip up our editing books. Yes! It's my favorite subject of all. Art! Today in art we learned about a woman who likes to draw flowers and desert backgrounds, Georgia O‘Keefe. So now we have to draw flowers of our own and color them. Finally it was time for lunch. Today on the menu was cheesy macaroni or a turkey sandwich. Boy was lunch good, but I'm still disappointed because we had indoor recess. It wasn't so bad because everyone had fun. When recess was over we played a game called Newsbowl. It's sort of like Jeopardy, but in Newsbowl you're on a team. As the bell rang everyone was signed out by Ms. Sanborn and walked out into the wet Wednesday.
Yeah, New Book Groups! Today was fun and hard at the same time. Today we got new book groups, today was our spelling test, and we also learned something new in math. Here is what we did. Today for the morning assignment we had to do something different. We had to color different flags that stood for freedom during the Revolutionary War. I thought it was pretty cool. So here is what we learned that was new in math. We worked on finding the percents of a number, but Ms. Sanborn was nice and she only made us do ten out of ........... oh, fifteen. To me I thought that they looked hard so I'm glad that we didn't have to do all the problems. Our only assignment was to do another page almost the same to the page we did together, but we had to work with money. Next it was time for writing. Well I don't know about others, but writing is my favorite subject right after P.E. In writing we got assigned to make a time line of your life. Like years 0-1. For years 2-3, I put my Uncle Roy died, went to the zoo for the first time, and met my other uncle for the first time. We got time to work on that for awhile, but after 10 or 15 minutes we had to stop to work on our 3rd quarter goals. We had to write down if we achieved our goals or if we didn't. Then we had to think of three 4th quarter goals and how we are going to achieve them and why we picked them. We also got sometime to work on those. By now it was music time. We talked about how a piece of music should fit in to a scene of a play or a movie, why there is music, and we took a guess of how music was started. After music was reading. We read our summaries that we had to do for a small book that usually have 15 or 16 pages. W also met with Ms. Sanborn and shared our questions that we had to do from the back of the tiny books. This is when we got our new reading groups. Ms. Sanborn read to us the summary of six books and we had to pick our first, second, and third choice. I put April Morning for my first and that is what I got. As soon as we got into our groups we had to figure out how many pages we had to read each day. As soon as that we were done we had to do five predictions and five I wonders. Now it was time for spelling and editing. We had to edit the next sentence and then Farris picked partners and we had to take our spelling test. Finally Ms. S. told us to line up for lunch. After recess it was time for Units. We had to share our biographies, but before we started to share our biographies Aaron got to share a small biography about a person in his family. When he was done we started to share our biographies with the class. Now it was 2:45 and time for teacher read. We are reading Knots In My Yo-Yo Strings. After teacher read it is time for study hall. Thirty minutes passed quickly and the day was over. I hope everyone had a good day!
Today we went on a field trip and started doing biographies in Social Studies! We were all so glad. Today we started off with math. Some kids went to Robotics though. For the kids that didn't go to Robotics there was a blue fraction sheet and a math box. We ended math at 9:30 so we could get to the SAC Museum on time. When we got to the museum we were happy because the nauseating drive was over. Well anyway we went in and we split up into the three classes. Our class first watched a movie about Mars since the trip was dedicated to learning about Mars. Next my class went to the classroom where we went through six stations, well actually five because something was wrong with Number 2. It was lots of fun because we played on the computer, built rovers, built rockets, and other fun and somewhat complicating things. Soon we did a scavenger hunt in another place which might have been easy to some people, but not to me. The last part of our tremendous field trip was building rovers that would actually move by the touch of a button! That was also fun, but a bit sophisticated. Soon we had to leave to be back to school. When we got back we found out we missed writing, gym, and reading so we just moved on to spelling and editing. In editing we edited #1 from the story Hattie's Birthday Box. In spelling we studied our words and did a yellow sheet. Next on the agenda was lunch and recess. For lunch most people got hot dogs because they are as delicious as the food you eat at an all you can eat buffet and trust me that's pretty good. For recess lots of kids played basketball and swung on the swings. I would've done that, but according to my doctor if I play rough they will have to take out the bone in my arm and give me a new one or put cement in my bone. Well enough about me, it's time for silent reading. Today we went to the library because it's what we do after recess on Mondays. Afterwards, we had to pick out a Revolutionary War name from a basket to see who we would be writing a biography on. Ms. Sanborn first showed us an example and then we got to start. Finally it was time for teacher read. We are reading an autobiography by Jerry Spinelli. It is called Knots in my Yo-Yo String. Finally, it was time for study hall. We filled out our planners and got started. We didn't have much homework, well actually since I was Roving Reporter I guess I have quite a bit of homework. When that bell rang, we all ran out the classroom like we were rabbits because we knew we had school tomorrow. So the day turned out to be pretty fun after all thanks to the field trip and missing most our subjects.
