American Montessori Society Member School

Montessori

Millard offers both elementary and middle school accredited Montessori programs. The programs are consistent with Dr. Maria Montessori's philosophy that the role of education is to create a learning laboratory. Montessori methodology is based on movement, activity, and habits of work and order. Students are guided, moving from simple to complex and concrete to abstract concepts. The classroom environment is designed to facilitate maximum independent learning and exploration by the child. The curriculum is interdisciplinary and interactive. Concepts are taught using hands-on materials and encourage discovery, independence, and critical thinking.

Montessori offers multi-age classrooms. Pre-primary classes are for students three to six years old. Primary classrooms are for students six to nine years old, and intermediate classrooms are for students nine to eleven years old. Sixth grade students are the only single grade classroom. Adolescent age classrooms are for students thirteen to fourteen years old.
