Counselors and Social Workers

Millard’s counselors and social workers are here to help students with everything from class selection and career and college guidance to social and emotional development.

School Counselors

Counselors Help Students
The purpose of the counseling program is to promote and enhance the learning process. The goal is to enable all students to achieve success in school and to develop into contributing members of our society. School counselors help students with academics, career exploration, and social development.

A school counselor is a person who is professionally trained to help students realize their potential as unique individuals. For this reason, all students have school counseling services available to them.

Guidance Programs

Individual Counseling - helps students resolve or cope constructively with their problems and developmental concerns.

Small Group Counseling - involves a counselor working with 5-8 students. Students are able to share ideas, give and receive feedback, increase their awareness, gain new knowledge, practice skills, and think about their goals and actions. General topics are related to personal and academic development.

Classroom Instruction - is a planned developmental program of activities in the classroom designed to foster students’ academic and emotional needs.

Consultation - is a collaborative partnership in which counselors work with parents, teachers, administrators, and the student service team to plan and implement strategies to help students be successful in school.

If you have any questions, please call your school and ask to speak to the counselor.

Social Workers

Millard Public School Social Workers work with families, schools, and community agencies to address circumstances that can affect a child’s success in school. These circumstances could include: financial, social, legal, medical, mental health, behavioral, temporary crisis and school attendance concerns.

The School Social Workers can provide:

  • Information and referral to new and existing services in the community.
  • Liaison with juvenile justice and other health and human service agencies.
  • Consultation with parents, legal guardians and school personnel.
  • Liaison and building partnerships between home and school.

School Social Work Services are provided to any family who has a child enrolled in the Millard Public Schools. These services can be requested by parents, legal guardians of students, administrators, teachers, counselors, student assistance teams, or by outside agencies with whom the family is working.

School Social Workers may be contacted in confidence with any questions about the services they provide. If they can be of help to you, please call your school and ask to speak to the social worker.
